| Albums I'm Glad to Have Found on this Site
I turn 18 in less than two months, and I realize its been a few years since 16 year old me found his way onto this site. A list of some incredible music Sputnik's gotten me into. You guys are sick to death of hearing about most of these artists, so don't be too mad if I'm being repetitive. I thank you for your patience | 1 | | The Hotelier Home, Like NoPlace Is There
This album hits me to the core every time, from the subtle and moving sadness of the opener to one of the most tragic and anguish-filled climaxes I've ever heard in "Dendron". By far the album I turn to the most on a bad day. | 2 | | The Format Dog Problems
I've always had a soft spot for Nate Ruess' vocal contributions to the band fun., but when I heard about his band prior to that project, I was astounded at what I found. Catchy, quirky, inventive and honest at its core, Dog Problems is a summer album that is optimistic in the face of heartbreak and tragedy. The synths on Oceans, the grandeur of the title track, and the beautiful poetry of If Work Permits are all examples of the lyrical and musical genius that is contained within these 12 tracks. Simply perfect, beginning to end. | 3 | | Kanye West My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
I have to admit, prior to visiting this website, I gave into the common fallacy of a mainstream music listener: The image an artist presents is more important than their music. After reading the reviews I would see for Kanye West, I would scoff, dismissing it as the result of hipsters rushing to the defense of one of music's most polarizing figures. But when I listened to Dark Fantasy, and chose to listen to its arrogance and bombast, did I realize how deluded I was. The production is unlike anything I have yet to hear on any record, unmatched in its power, it's just simply gorgeous. This is the record that I am not ashamed got me into hip-hop, and the magnum opus of a producer gone wild. | 4 | | Kendrick Lamar To Pimp a Butterfly
The only time I'd truly listened to Kendrick before this album was from the Lonely Island track "YOLO". (Very telling of my exposure to hip-hop prior). When I saw this record on the front page, I immediately was attracted to it solely on the credit of name recognition alone, as Kendrick is so universally respected that even a hip-hop neanderthal like myself would be interested. The expanse of ground this record covers is so vast, that even after countless listens I still have yet to fully grasp the meaning of the recurring poem that so effectively ties this record together. Out of all of the albums I've heard, this one is the smartest, and the one I believe will have the greatest impact as a whole on society. | 5 | | Weezer Pinkerton
An album I hated upon first listen, and yet is now my favorite Weezer album. (That's right, better than Blue, I said it!) The emotion and pain Rivers Cuomo was going through when recording this is readily apparent, which makes this album that more human and vulnerable. Even at points where it should just be plain ridiculous, such on EL SCORCHO!, I always find myself rooting for him through all of his failures and fantasies. | 6 | | Jellyfish Spilt Milk
Underappreciated band, did almost everything I love about classic pop-rock and just does it perfectly. The vocal melodies, the guitar solos, the piano lines are all just so bubblegum sticky while at the same time being the coolest damn thing ever. Almost on Beatles level right here for pop perfection. | 7 | | Opeth Still Life
The atmosphere of this record is what convinced me to look into metal. The growls and riffs of the heavier sections are matched by acoustic numbers of startling beauty. Thanks to this band, I can delve deeper into the glorious land of the metal gods. | 8 | | The Verve Urban Hymns
Heard Bitter Sweet Symphony once, and was entranced by its mesmerizing string section. I find myself sucked into the album from the second I hit play, and I drift about in its euphoria until it closes. Very relaxing, comforting and rejuvenating to a mind to stressed to slow down and enjoy life at a livelier pace. | 9 | | Lydia Illuminate
The female and male harmonies on this record paint lovely pictures of a painting I can't quite see clearly yet. What I do know is the colors they're using sound pretty nice. | 10 | | Captain, We're Sinking The Future Is Cancelled
Depressing, but not complacent. By far the most technically impressive emo record I've heard yet, and throws a lot of curveballs lyrically and musically. While I played this ironically at points for the quirky lines "i drink more milk than she does / my best friend is my dog, the lines are never stupid or insulting to the listener, but rather increase the credibility of the stories told by the writer. | |

09.16.15 | you haven't heard much emo if you think future is cancelled is the most technically impressive album in the genre | Confessed2005
09.16.15 | Still Life is incredible. That is the only one of these I have heard tbh. |
