06.12.20 | sooo, what about you? |
wildinferno2010
06.12.20 | Nice one with Thin Air. There are some Anathema songs that can hit me like that too. Lightning Song might be one. The Lost Song Part 2. Lee Douglas' voice is so comforting.
Somehow by Pretend, maybe. That build is just absolutely sublime. |
dedex
06.12.20 | Fall of Efrafa - Republic of Heaven. So fucking beautiful. |
Mythodea
06.12.20 | Listened to both. Somehow sounds better to my ears, but some of the lyrics on RoH are very heavy |
ItsTheSquirrel
06.12.20 | Who Wants To Live Forever by Queen. Not a band typically known for moving songs, especially in the 80s, but god damn if this song doesn't just make me feel so glad to be alive |
Mythodea
06.12.20 | oh, yes indeed |
Kompys2000
06.12.20 | The Dream Academy- Life in a Northern Town
Re-listened to this for the first time in a while yesterday, and right towards the end they just keep repeating that majestic, wordless chorus, and something about the soft, reassuring way Nick Laird-Clowes sings "make it easy on yourself/society's so, so hard to desert"... Maybe it's just because I've been socially isolating for most of the past 3 months, but that line just utterly dissolved me into a puddle of tears. |
rufinthefury
06.12.20 | you need some Red House Painters in your life
also woah Fall of Efrafa fucking forgot about that group I loved em |
Mythodea
06.12.20 | @Kompy Never heard of it before, but it's definitely a soft song and the chorus is almost celebratory, if only with an underlying sense of nostalgia. 10/10 song. |
Shuyin
06.12.20 | We Lost the Sea - Forgotten people
This one packs a lot of sad feels, it packs a bigger punch when you listen to the whole album since it's such a drastic change of pace but this can stand on its own |
OmairSh
06.12.20 | AIC - Down in a Hole, especially the live MTV version |
wildinferno2010
06.12.20 | @Shuyin "Ordinary people, you're going to die"
Nice one. |
Shuyin
06.12.20 | Do try to listen to the entire album, that song will hit you like a fricking bullet train |
teamster
06.12.20 | Isis - Garden Of Light
That outro. Holy feels. Try it with alcohol. Good luck. |
Snake.
06.12.20 | brockhampton - victor roberts

06.12.20 | I love music as much as the next guy, but I've never heard a song that made me cry. Emotional, sure, but never tears. |
ReiniEden
06.12.20 | When I hear the first few seconds of Absence by Martin Grech my heart skips a beat, and it's enough to bring tears to my eyes. |
wildinferno2010
06.12.20 | @Shuyin I have. Great album. Saw them play some songs off it a couple years ago. Different vocalist obviously, but it was sick. |
Supercoolguy64
06.12.20 | smog - i break horses is a good choice |
Shuyin
06.12.20 | Nice! I'd love to see that band live |
ChoccyPhilly
06.12.20 | Sigur Ros - Vaka. My go to song for a lil sob and existential crisis. The sheer beauty but the weight of each piano key breaks my soul |
rockarollacola
06.13.20 | W.A.S.P. - Keep Holding On
FUUUUUUCK that song. There are plenty of songs that get me teary eyed, but that's the only one that has managed to make me weep like a little bitch. The fact that song is from the same band that gave us 'Animal (Fuck Like A Beast)' and 'Ballcrusher' baffles me to no end. |
Jadmin
06.13.20 | rhododendrons - bloc party
it's a good one |

06.13.20 | Jeff buckley-mojo pin |

06.13.20 | Kishi Bashi - Angeline
Most songs on Omoiyari are sad as fuck. Angeline is almost too tragic.
"I just want to be able to sing to her again" waaaaa |
Dedes
06.13.20 | The Hands that Used to Hold Me by Counterparts.
Or any Counterparts songs tbh |
Mythodea
06.13.20 | Submitted all of the new ones, some of them I heard just now and they are all awesome. Martin Grech's especially was really touching.
Also, @rockarolla, yeah, Blackie has made some weird music all these years, but some of his songs hit hard (to me, the whole Crimson Idol is a masterpiece, and Hold on to my Heart could make me fall in love with any girl nearby at the moment)
@Jadmin ''Rhododedron'' is such a unique and beautiful name for a band
Keep them coming guys, will add YT links asap |
ChoccyPhilly
06.13.20 | @egarran how the fuck did Angeline make you cry but not Summer of 42?? |
Dewinged
06.13.20 | There are many, but recently, Manchester Orchestra " The Silence". The ending is just too much man. I cry every. single. fucking. time. |
Mythodea
06.13.20 | @ChoccyPhilly, well, he did say that the whole album is heart-wrenching, tho.
@Dewinged HOLY MOLLY, THIS ALBUM IS DEVASTATING RIGHT FROM THE COVER |

06.13.20 | Tom Waits - Alice
The whole album tbh |
Mythodea
06.13.20 | @sinterest The video for Keaton Henson's song is gold |
Mythodea
06.13.20 | Also, @Jadmin, in case you don't know, there's a band called Rhododendron, so I almost made a mistake.
That's it, I've put all videos links |

06.13.20 | I don't want to press anyone, but I encourage all of you to talk about the songs you've chosen and why they may move you in a deep level. It's good to see anyone commenting either way, so thanks for coming by. |

Dedes
06.14.20 | Idk
I feel like Counterparts as a whole have, unintentionally, coursed themselves in a way that strings alongside my life. All the flaring self issues and calamities seem to fall in line with my own, so when I hear something like "I thought that I was dreaming/but when I opened up my eyes/you swore you were still here" it turns me into a twee baby |
Dedes
06.14.20 | @myothodea
Same could be said of Spirit Breaker by August Burns Red.
You into any cheesy sadboi metalcore? |
evilford
06.14.20 | Pink floyd - the gunner's dream |
evilford
06.14.20 | Imogen heap - hide and seek
Both because of the song itself and a perfect time in my life that is gone that it painfully reminds me of |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | @Dedes, No I don't think I'm really fond of metalcore. Maybe elements of it. I do have a good friend who's into it, though.
@evilford That saxophone solo in Gunner's Dream is chilling. Not enough to bring me to tears, but it brings the whole album up. |
JayEnder
06.14.20 | Reflection by Counterparts because it reflects my joke of a life very personally. |

06.14.20 | Superb list idea m8! Too many to only cite one.
Ok, if i have to pick one! Erik Satie-Gymnopédies, the piano sonate is so melo, tears come to my eye nearly every time. |

06.14.20 | I'm just going to throw out the latest song I shed a few tears to
Jon Guerra - "Teach Us That One Song." I just really needed to hear that song.

madrigal30
06.14.20 | beach life-in-death, car seat headrest
typical pick, but without the song i probably wouldn't have realized i was bi / started processing 10 years of mental scar tissue |
Egarran
06.14.20 | Angeline, well it's this innocent guy who has found the love of his life and lives in happiness. Then he gets absolutely fucked by American racists, is sent to slave in a mine and she moves on to another man. It's so tragic and based on a real story.
And I think maybe there's a cultural thing here, because he's Japanese and just accepts the blows of the world. He's not looking for revenge or redemption, he just matter-of-factly recounts the injustices he experienced.
Also:
Angeline, your memories won't let me die :((( |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | @JayEnder I put on the song just because your comment hit weird to me. The lyrics weight a ton, dude. Hope doesn't fix much, but I do hope things turn out good for you.
@FR33LORD One of the most bizarre showers I had was in a small apartment in the Netherlands (in Groningen in particular), in the afternoon gloom with Gymnopedies playing. It's a stellar piece of music and it's such a shame people didn't give it the credit it deserved.
@ZippathaRippa First time listening to Against Me!, and I'm stoked. Thanks.
@Lucman I guess the whole song is a reference to Hallelujah?
@madrigal30 I never thought that this album would have 10+ minute songs. Always thought it was a short indie folk or post-something album. Whatever the case, I'm glad it helped you. Having people close to me realizing their sexual identities as well, and I know it can be struggling without a supporting environment.
@Egarran That description is something that gives a glimpse of an honest and pure vulnerability ;) |
Lucman
06.14.20 | The Leonard Cohen song? I don't think so. It's more about returning to that place where all the hatred, division, and fighting is put to the side and relearning how to sing the song of love, acceptance and, for a Christian, praise that this world seems to forget. I think it's a song everyone can relate to in these times and it hit me like a freight train, as did that whole album tbh. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.14.20 | Beach Life nice. High to Death makes me sadder, but that song is colossal.
i have different playlists for different kinds of sad. when i want a big overblowner Downer, In the Backseat by Arcade Fire gets me; when i want a wasted youth burnout, Evil Will Prevail or Slow Nerve Action by the Flaming Lips are huge and when i feel quiet and sad and confused but unconfusedly sad, i jam My Impure Hair by Blonde Redhead and space out
that's not very helpful for this list format, sorry - i guess only put My Impure Hair on since that's the least well-known :] |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | Oh, I think I see your point. The plead for help from God is apparent and the will to follow His word. But I thought that there was also this marriege between songs, because of the many common words, pictures and undercurrent theme.
The verse I liked the most was
Lord, I've been the boy David
Sprinting to Goliath
But these days my feet ain't as quick
|
Mythodea
06.14.20 | @JohnnyoftheWell Coming again with a number of artists I've never heard of. That's a lot of names, so this comment may be someone's treasure. |
Lucman
06.14.20 | Oh yeah, good catch, that makes sense. "Hallelujah" sort of has a similar theme. The whole album is full of lyrics like those. It's one of the most honest and transparent pieces of art I've heard in a while. |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | It's funny, because I always thought of hip hop and rap as genres emphasizing lyrics over music (compared to other genres of music), but recently I've come to realize that some hip hop artists pay tremendous attention to sound and not so much on lyrics, while there are also artists with minimalist music approach (like indie-folk), but with intricate lyricism. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.14.20 | whaaa you've never heard of one of The Flaming Lips or Arcade Fire??
My Impure Hair is beautiful and fragile and dazed and confused, check it everyone ! |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | My bad, I read the comment hastily and mistook most song titles for artists. I learnt about Blonde Redhead through that overrated animated series, but I never heard of that particular song. Eriee lyrics, indeed. I feel like I've wronged her in a way I didn't intend to, but maybe I'm an asshole too. |
JohnnyoftheWell
06.14.20 | Ah gotcha haha! Yeah, their cameo there is a weird quirk of history lol, although ig that track could be a worse intro point.
I feel you re. lyrics - with different delivery, that song would feel like a guilt trip or even a trauma piece, but as it is it just feels fragile and confused and understatedly ~wrong somehow. "it's not what i hate, it's what you hate" + the way she delivers the title lyric give me chills every time |

06.14.20 | Nina Simones version of Strange fruit for obvious reasons.
Any decent version of Gloomy sunday. Billie holiday/anna von hauswolff/diamanda
|
Mythodea
06.14.20 | @Egarran I'm saying this in the most unironical way possible. Mommy-issues and what not are strong with me.
@Deez By the way, I want to cry my heart through the mouth every time I listen to Simone's Stars. Goddamn you Bojack Horseman....
And also, have you heard of the Bjork version? Wdy think? |
evilford
06.14.20 | ....... |

06.14.20 | i would have a whole ass compendium for this list, but i'm pretty sure they'd all be super predictable picks based on my ratings lol |

06.14.20 | @ian b, Dude, I've picked the Bitter End by Placebo like a lame stereotype, this isn't a list for music snobs |
Scoot
06.14.20 | god of wine |
Deez
06.14.20 | 'have you heard of the Bjork version? Wdy think?'
Fantastic version also. I LOVE Bjork but doesnt really hit the sombre note as much as I feel that song always should. At least in me. But as a version itself its great, yeah. I actually only knew she had sang it in the last 6 months or so. The 'soon there'll be candles' (not in every version) and 'tell them Im glad to go' lines have always killed me in that song. Ive always found a connection with happily accepting suicide rather that it always being a horrendously dark subject. |
Mythodea
06.14.20 | People who are about to commit suicide is common to be uplift and relaxed, as if the storm has passed in them. That's why many relatives, friends and acquaintances are baffled and can't process what's happening/happened. It is true that choosing suicide can lead to temporary relief - it does seem appealing, the sense of freedom and redemption even!
But suicide is, and always will be a horrendously dark subject and I can't accept this world is not taking care of people who want out.
I'm not judgemental, I'm just trying to disagree, without denying there's truth in your thoughts. |
evilford
06.14.20 | As someone who has attempted suicide on multiple occasions, I can personally say that a huge weight seemed to be lifted off of my shoulders the moment I decided to take my life. I was extremely depressed (clinically) and had struggled with many daily aspects of life for months. I had considered suicide previously, but the moment that I accepted that it was the way out I immediately felt a tremendous amount of relief. I drank half a bottle of Jameson and took 30 xanax. I should have died. But I was in a coma for three days. My parents found me in my bed unconscious after not being able to get ahold of me by phone. So yeah then I woke up three-ish days later and immediately felt awful again. I attempted suicide twice more in the next few days in the psych ward. But lucky for me, there were people in my life that refused to give up on me. I got help thru therapy and psychiatry and eventually, electroconvulsive therapy and over the course of the next few weeks got to a place where I was ready to tackle life instead of look for a way out. I am eternally grateful to my parents and a handful of friends who pulled me thru.
That was 6.5 years ago. Have not attempted or even considered suicide since. Therapy helped but I genuinely believe that psychiatry saved my life. I have kids. I want and need to be there for them.
People who have never been in that dark of a place mentally are not capable of comprehending what someone with suicidal depression deals with on a daily basis. This is not to say that I believe suicide is EVER the way out...I know that it is not and am eternally grateful for those people in my life that didnt give up on me. But i understand where peoples' minds are sometimes when they attempt suicide. Unless you've been there, chances are that you are not even capable of comprehending what they're going thru or the thought process.
Idk why I felt like sharing all that. Sputnik now knows more about me than it probably should lol
All that said, I genuinely believe that there is always a way out that is NOT suicide. If any of u guys (and I mean this) are ever in a truly dark spot and need help, do not hesitate to reach out to me, I will help however i can. But also seek professional help |
DopeFiend
06.14.20 | Amia Venera Landscape - Nicholas. this whole album is powerful af but the last few minutes of this song has brought a tear to my eye on several occasions. |
Egarran
06.14.20 | Thanks a lot for sharing, Ford. Glad you're here. |

06.14.20 | Dark Tranquillity - The Mind's Eye
the absolute definition of feelz |
Mythodea
06.15.20 | Dark Tranquillity's Voice of the Soul according to some comments on YT, balances between folk and metal in a very dim way. It's both mellow and raw, if that makes any sense. |
JayEnder
06.15.20 | @Mythodea I really appreciate that man. Thank you. I just needed to hear something like that. I was in a real shitty place when I said that a couple days ago... Missing my ex and my job is getting more difficult to bear every day. Everything is catching up to me and I feel lost. |
Mythodea
06.15.20 | You are welcome, mate. Life can be draining, but there is a sense of great mental strength in admitting some difficult things. |

06.16.20 | "Martin Grech's especially was really touching."
I'm really fucking glad you enjoyed it, he's become my favorite/obsessed artist as of recently. |
ian b
06.16.20 | anyways, i'll throw a couple contributions on here; check Lil Peep - Praying to the Sky, and The Way I See Things (off of Lil Peep: Part One), and "Go Home" by Julien Baker, and maybe add "Funeral" by Phoebe Bridgers for good measure if my other picks suck to you guys lol |
Emim
06.16.20 | Architects - Memento Mori
Wrecks me every time. |
Mythodea
06.16.20 | Thanks for the new songs both of you.
@ian b, I always wondered if I should listen to Julien Baker, and hell yes, Go Home is amazing! Same goes for Phoebe Bridges. |
Coast
06.16.20 | Same here with Thin Air
Sarah McLachlan - Fear
The whole Fumbling Towards Ecstasy album is dripping in melancholy. Fear, Elsewhere, Possession and the title track are tear jerkers in particular. Also the track Ice - the ice is thin come on dive in.... |
Nerdurosis
06.16.20 | Korn - Daddy
The most emotional 90's metal song ever recorded. |
Mythodea
06.16.20 | @Coast Fear sounds so good I'll be checking her whole album
@Nerdurosis Woah, never thought Korn could sound like that. Kudos to Jonathan Davies for recording a song like this |
GuanoBumbershoot
06.16.20 | I'll Get By by Pianos Become the Teeth
For my money, the most genuinely cathartic song about losing a Parent/loved one to illness, cancer, or anything really. Gets me every time. |
Divaman
06.16.20 | Aimee Mann - King of the Jailhouse
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qMxWi_DQGUw
To quote my own review: "It's a slow, mournful, piano-based number with a heartbreaking chorus, as John confesses to the sleeping Caroline, "Baby, there's something wrong with me/That I can't see." Mann's voice has never been richer than it is on this track, or more poignant."
|
Divaman
06.16.20 | And also, Tom Waits - Ruby's Arms

''I want you to know, I'm learning patience against my will'' these words are so magnificent and exact
@Divaman I would have enjoyed Mann's song sooooooo much 4 years ago, but I think the line that connects me with the blues was cut specifically on January 1st 2017.
|
Divaman
06.16.20 | Have you heard it, though, Mythodea? It's not really blues. It's more of a slow pop indie rock song. |
GuanoBumbershoot
06.16.20 | "''I want you to know, I'm learning patience against my will'' these words are so magnificent and exact"
eh-fuckin-men brother |
ian b
06.17.20 | fuck i somehow forgot, "I'll Get By" definitely takes the cake by a landslide. don't think i've ever listened to a song that's made me at least shed a tear with every full listen |
Mythodea
06.17.20 | @Divaman, Yes I gave it a spin, as with all of the songs suggested. And I do like it, but in the ''I burnt this style during a bad time'' kind of way.
