26 | | Avatism Bad Summer
-Breakbeat-
Lotsa tasty grooves on this one |
27 | | cupcakKe Ephorize
-Hip Hop-
Yeah this one slaps, some of the songs here feel pretty tacked on though |
28 | | Dessa Chime
-Hip Hop-
This one doesn't really hit as emotionally hard as her last record, but its still a good one |
29 | | Empress (CA) Reminiscence
-Sludge Metal-
I remember this one having like two insanely good tracks and the rest of it being OK |
30 | | Kero Kero Bonito TOTEP
-Noise Pop-
I need a full album tho |
31 | | MGMT Little Dark Age
-Neo-Psychedelia-
On one hand, the the songwritng here is very unique for a "throwback" record and the weirdness of it is admirable... on the other hand the songwriting here feels off |
32 | | Moby Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt
-Trip Hop-
Atmosphere is on point but Moby still struggles to write a catchy song |
33 | | Neana Evaser
-UK Funky-
Choppy, sample heavy, bouncy, and just overall weird - if not for the fact it feels a bit too uneventful on the second half this would be one of the best for the year |
34 | | Rezzett Rezzett
-Outsider House-
Another electronic record with atmosphere on point and a handful of neat production tricks to keep you entertained, but it lacks in variety and can be passed off as excellent background music more than it can as an excellent album |
35 | | Jeff Rosenstock POST-
-Power Pop-
Jeff Rosenstock gets drunk, grabs some friends, and records an album in a day or two... at least, that is what it sounds like |
36 | | Superorganism Superorganism
-Glitch Pop-
It's All Good and Nobody Cares are God-tier pop songs among a sea of "alright" pop songs |
37 | | Soft Blade Zerkalo
-Minimal Synth-
I'm pretty sure I have been hex'd by this album |
38 | | Typhoon (USA-OR) Offerings
-Indie Rock-
Yeah I guess this is dark and moody in the right way, but man do I miss how lively and emotional their sound was on their previous releases |
39 | | Andrew W.K. You're Not Alone
-Power Pop-
I for one welcome our new motivational life coach |
40 | | Remo Drive Pop Music
-Power Pop-
The first two songs are great, the last song is bad, overall this feels like a pretty pointless EP recorded by obligation |
41 | | Young Fathers Cocoa Sugar
-Neo-Soul-
This is fine but Young Fathers really dropped the ball on what could've been their "classic" record... I'd just stick with DEAD honestly |
