Pumpkin Spice Jamz 2k15

Just a few great Fall/Winter jams that everyone should check if they haven't. A couple of my favorite songs of all time are on this list, so if you haven't heard any of these yet, take the time to do so. I wrote this after a few glasses of wine, so I apologize for any typos or anything like that.
1Julia Holter
Finale

The end of Julia's first LP is the main contender for my favorite song of all time. This track is just supremely beautiful in every respect even when eschewing the concept of the record. Light, heavenly electronics introduce one of the most soaring, savory soundscapes I've ever heard. Every time I hear this song, I pick up on some little background nuance that breathes new life into the experience. I'm always immediately reminded of a period of time where I traveled through France and Italy when I hear this song, and it feels just as relevant during autumn sunset drives up and down I-5.
2Salvia Palth
girl

A simultaneously bleak and uplifting palette carries this track through delicate themes of self-worth and possibly hope. A beat reminiscent of Yo La Tengo's "Saturday" backs nostalgic electric piano and fragile, wavering vocal layers in a cacophony of tender noise.
3Mew
Comforting Sounds

While far more popular than the previous two tracks, "Comforting Sounds" cannot be overlooked in a list of beautiful songs for the colder seasons. For the uninitiated, Mew is a Danish four-piece which melds tender, childlike vocals with progressive and interesting instrumental arrangements. While it stands as one of Mew's most straightforward compositions, the nearly 9-minute, epic conclusion to Frengers sees Jonas Bjerre's unique timbre backed by very subtle plucked guitar and little more before an eventual explosion of emotion that remains one of the finest moments of the music of the 2000's.
4Futher Seems Forever
Janie

While Chris Carraba's output post-Dashboard Confessional has been widely condemned (Penny Black in particular), this track is one of the most poignant in his catalog. A delicate, breezy falsetto breathes alongside beautiful acoustic stylings, telling tales of the dregs of summer.
5Julia Brown
The body descends

Sam Ray's work post-Teen Suicide retains the sharp melancholy of his previous band but introduces a welcome, palatable dose of hope. "The body descends" is a soaring triumph of ephemeral themes, lyrical ideas that dance in and out of clarity. The dual male and female vocal timbres provide a complexity which complements the tasteful piano and subtle electronics that fill the song's breadth. This track stands out among a discography of particularly poignant compositions.
