I think a lot of others here might feel the same. what I’m trying to say I guess is that, we all know this site doesn’t make money, and the fact that the volunteers that keep this site running are still doing it is quite remarkable. It's easy to see why it always comes up though. a true slice of indie in what is now an ocean of marketing junk. I've been impressed how long mx has committed to it tbh. but would be very sad to see it go

This is place IS the internet to me, legitimately the ONLY site in existence I’d actually be upset about losing I’ll migrate all my ratings over to RYM just in case, but that’s small fry… it’s the community that keeps me coming back. There will never be another Sput! Hope we pull through and / or if mx doesn’t want to / can’t do it anymore, then someone else takes it on… even if we end up having to adapt somehow! The continued work of the people here is already incredible, maybe there is way we can make the site profitable or something 🤷🏻 …what the hell that would entail outside of a subscription service is beyond me mind
Nomos2 01.10.23	You said it Hyperion. It's been really sad to watch in the last 15 years as the old web classics faded as the imperative to pay for hosting dribbled to nothing. Social media made PHPBB and the likes obsolete. But less and less do we have any evidence that the classics existed unless we saved screencaps or it's cached somewhere. This is one of the few remaining sites that has been unchanged since that era, and since I started lurking in 2007 or so. It would be legitimately sad if it just vanished one day, and incidents like todays reminds us how easily that can happen. Thankful for mx for keeping it up all these years, but at the same time weary that it could happen at any moment again and we'd continue to be powerless because it does hinge on one man running it who doesn't have all the time in the world to maintain it like we'd hope. Nostalgia aside, there is also nowhere else on the internet where we can engage with other people on specific albums in this format. At least none that I know of. And if I had to guess, the new user signups must be declining year over year, so we're left with a pretty small-ish but cozy group of people to interact with. I can't think of another site like it that's as old, and I'd be kind of crushed if I lost the ability to discuss music in this way with other passionate people. The closest alternative is, what...YouTube comments? Shitty Facebook groups? No thanks!
