03.30.18 | Nothing too surprising here, but great list nonetheless.
Some other top albums for me would be:
Unbroken- Life. Love. Regret.
Skycamefalling- To Forever Embrace the Sun
Hatebreed- Satisfaction is the Death of Desire
All Out War- For Those Who Were Crucified
Bloodlet- Entheogen
Disembodied- Diablerie
Earth Crisis- Firestorm
Kiss It Goodbye- She Loves Me, She Loves Me Not
Ringworm- The Promise
Converge- Petitioning the Empty Sky
This list could go on. |

03.30.18 | the music on the list is awesome but i wouldnt describe more than three of them as being "early"
earth crisis and ringworm on the other hand, as accomplished mentioned |

03.30.18 | @accomplice:
All those albums are awesome too, the 90's are certainly filled with a lot of metalcore gems.
@park:
Maybe it's different for the US, but for me I consider pre-2000's metalcore to be early. Most of the stuff that broke out here in the UK was stuff like Killswitch Engage, BFMV etc, and that happened in the mid-2000's after nu metal went out of the limelight. |
parksungjoon
03.30.18 | it depends where you draw the line, definitely
i just happen to draw it around the mid 90s i guess, because there's a TONNNN of incredible shit that started to come out in the late 90s |
parksungjoon
03.30.18 | in other words, i consider early mxc to be early and mid 90s because if i considered it to be the entirety of the 90s then like more than half of the good albums in the genre would be "early" |
cloakanddagger
03.30.18 | Yeah that's fair, Mort's list "metalcore for good people" definitely made me realised how much good shit came out in the 90's. |
JustJoe.
03.30.18 | * 7 Angels 7 Plagues -- "Jhazmyne's Lullaby" |
cloakanddagger
03.30.18 | Great record, but it was released in 2001 so I decided not to include it on here. |
JustJoe.
03.30.18 | I really should start reading. Just saw the description. My bad. |
accompliceofmydeath
03.30.18 | I wasn't around for the 90's scene, but I agree, the cutoff for "early" metalcore should probably be around '97. Seems like when Hatebreed released SITDOD things really took off. |
RFO13
03.30.18 | havent listened to any of these besides the botch record but I'm happy they exist because every time i die happened a few years after. thank you old metalcore ppl |

This
'Most of the stuff that broke out here in the UK was stuff like Killswitch Engage, BFMV etc, and that happened in the mid-2000's after nu metal went out of the limelight.'
'Breaking out' is irrelevant to the timeline of it. Breaking out simple meant the were on shitty TV channels like kerrang and scuzz/spuzz for mainstream rock magazine kids who get told what to like. Earth crisis/Integ/Ringworm is when it became something. I literally watched it grow in the UK scene mid 90s. Killswitch became TV faves but Aftershock were always better.
Morning again/Shai Hulud etc where that kinda mid wave.
As park said list misisng Bloodlet/Disembodied/Kiss it goodbye
Massive props for starweather. Too many people miss the. Also the new Starkweather is the shit |
accompliceofmydeath
03.30.18 | Aftershock is so much better than KSE.
and that was me that mentioned Bloodlet, disembodied and KIG.
That new Starkweather is nuts. |
Deez
03.30.18 |
'and that was me that mentioned Bloodlet, disembodied and KIG.'
ah sorry man, Had some beers. Doesnt take much |
accompliceofmydeath
03.30.18 | Haha, no worries. Cool to have some insight from someone who was there at the time. |
Deez
03.30.18 | There wasnt many good metal(side of) core bands in the UK around then. Canvas were the best. Profane where another but probably came into their own later on You had the entire belgium h8000 scene at the same time also. Late 90s/2000 they were all over the place ( xcanaanx/november coming fire/Beecher even) |
parksungjoon
03.30.18 | yo hold the phone there's a new starkweather? where |
accompliceofmydeath
03.30.18 | Dude, Canvas was ridiculously heavy. I haven't heard of Profane. I'll have to check them.
@Park: they have a new split with Concealment |
Deez
03.30.18 | Its a split. One 20 odd minute track. If you like starkweather youll love it

03.30.18 | interesting, will check soon thanks |

03.30.18 | @deezer666 seems you know a lot more about the 90's scene than I do. I wasn't around in the early 90's, so my experience of metalcore was mainly the 2000's stuff like I previously mentioned. But cool to get some insight into the scene back then.
Starkweather are fantastic, definitely under-appreciated. Their newer albums like This Sheltering Night are awesome. |
Deez
03.30.18 | It was a great time man but it was also a lot of amazing bands like stakweather and catharsis playing 80% empty rooms which was a shame. |
cloakanddagger
03.30.18 | Fuck man, that's usually the way sadly. |
