Rabid's August selction
THE QUEEN OF ENGLAND IS DEAD. Cool.
Anyways... here's some good/interesting stuff i've been listening this past month (give or take). Lots of current year stuff this time!
Check em! |
1 | | Kokoroko Could We Be More
(2022 afro-jazz/fusion)
Debut LP by London-based afro-jazz group. They play a lot more into fusion-y territory, adding elements of space-funk into the mix. I personally commend them to push their sound forward, and there's geniunely great stuff in here, but there's nothing as impactful as "Abusey Junction", tbh. |
2 | | Groove Theory Groove Theory
(neo-soul)
God. There's so much essential neo-soul from the 90's and 00's i wasn't even aware of. There's a deep dive waiting for me, definitely. |
3 | | Soul II Soul Club Classics Vol. One
(neo-soul/house)
Some amazing chill-out tracks here. Really good stuff |
4 | | Robohands Violet
(2022 jazz-fusion)
Another cool and chill album by Multi-instrumentalist Robohands. An unsung hero for the "toking and chilling" crowd world-wide. |
5 | | Savoy Brown Raw Sienna
(blues-rock)
another W for 70's hard-rock/blues-rock. Savoy Brown know how to rock! |
6 | | Free Highway
(hard rock)
same. After the debut, that's a bit TOO blues-y, this band hit a stride of 2-3 amazing rock albums. Definitely worth checking them out, they scratch a very particular 70's rock itch. |
7 | | Florist Florist
(2022 indie)
Really good indie album. Similar vibes to Múm and the new Big Thief. For what I hear this is a big step up from their previous stuff, so check it out, it surprised me for sure. |
8 | | Battle Trance Green Of Winter
(2022 post-minimalism)
This group continues to come out with some of the most accesible music in the genre. Good stuff! |
9 | | Stella Donnelly Flood
(2022 indie singer-songwriter)
Stella takes a huge risk by shedding her peppy jangle-pop attitude for a more classic singer-songwriter sound. Lots of ballads, lots of small moments. A step into a more mature sound. |
10 | | Songs: Ohia Ghost Tropic
(slowcore)
Thanks @Icebloom for the sad vibes list. Electric Magnolia Co. still GOATED, but this is close up there with the best of Molina's work. |
11 | | Abdullah Ibrahim African Marketplace
(afro-jazz)
AKA Dollar Brand. Check out the live albums/bootlegs. Truly lovely music. |
12 | | Jan Garbarek Witchi-Tai-To
(jazz fusion)
Idem. Live recordings always bring out the best out of this kinda music. |
