07.31.16 | You can also look at the RYM chart for top bm/dm. Not to be lazy, but it's a good starting point since it shows what bands people love the most. Here's the bm chart: http://tinyurl.com/jtmagmt |

07.31.16 | but if you're just trying to get into black/death metal, I'd go with some of the less inaccessible ones: Naglfar, Dissection, WitTR, Deafheaven, alcest, Bosse-de-Nage, Myrkgrav, Moonsorrow.
For death metal stuff like In Flames, Amon Amarth, Hypocrisy, Bloodbath, and Edge of Sanity should be pretty accessible, too (those were mostly melodeath, but w.e). |
CaimanJesus
07.31.16 | Pestilence, bloodbath, enslaved, death, cryptopsy, bolt thrower |

08.01.16 | Thanks for the recs guys. I'll check some of these out. Just as a side note, I heard a song off the new Be'lakor album, and I really enjoyed it. |
DatsNotDaMetulz
08.01.16 | Sinsaenum's "Echoes of the Tortured" is fairly entry level blackened death metal. It's pretty decent and should be good for introducing new listeners to the genres its members come from. |

08.01.16 | "Just as a side note, I heard a song off the new Be'lakor album, and I really enjoyed it."
then you might want to start with melodic death metal, since it's more accessible and you already like some metalcore which took a lot from it, BUT most of it really isn't like real death metal at all, so yea..
I think your safest bet would be Symbolic by Death. it's not melodeath, but it's really accessible and one of the best death metal albums ever. |
Funeralopolis
08.01.16 | Opeth, Wintersun, In Flames, Enslaved |

08.01.16 | Melodeath is great.
Modern metalcore was started when bands took the metalcore of the late 90s (pioneered by Shai Hulud and Earth Crisis) and took melodeath elements, turning it into what some like to call AtTheGatescore. So At The Gates might be a good place to go for melodic death metal. |
SpiritCrusher2
08.01.16 | ATG [2] oh yea, check Slaughter of The Soul hard
while you're at it, give Heartwork by Carcass a go too. |
DatsNotDaMetulz
08.01.16 | Slaughter of the Soul is that Killswitch Engage and all subsequent metalcore bands wanted to be, but because they couldn't play the notes they just did 0-0-0 chugging. |
SpiritCrusher2
08.01.16 | haha never thought KSE really ripped off ATG as much as Black Dahlia Murder or As I Lay Dying or Darkest Hour or some other band I can't remember now... but yea, they kinda set the standard for fast-paced melodic riffs on that album for the next 20 years lol |
SpiritCrusher2
08.01.16 | waiting for elitists to rip us apart for recommending that album |
DatsNotDaMetulz
08.01.16 | Elitists hate everything. They hate their own stuff if it gets too popular. |
