Personal Favourites of 2014 so far.

Just some of my favourites of 2014 so far. Thought I would share what has turned out to be a rrrrrremarkable first half.
1Epica
The Quantum Enigma

This is everything Epica stands for and put into one neat package that sure packs
a punch. The production is ace this time around as well as the balance between
songs.
2Insomnium
Shadows of the Dying Sun

Never followed this band much, but their latest effort sure has a captivating
atmosphere that makes you go back for more.
3Elvenking
The Pagan Manifesto

Amazing album from the start to finish. Perfect balance between power and folk.
This is a very mature album, but with plenty of energy.
4Tuomas Holopainen
Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge

He creates so many emotions on this album that even if you don't follow the comic,
you can still appreciate the beautiful melodies this album thrusts upon you.
5Words of Farewell
The Black Wild Yonder

Melodic Death Metal done right. The vocals in particular are magnificent.
6Persuader
The Fiction Maze

A classic artist of mine returns from a long hiatus. A fantastic album and make most
other power metal look very average.
7Whispered
Shogunate Macabre

This is a unique album, blending traditional Japanese folk melodies with the
aggression of metal. Worth a listen just for this factor alone.
8In Hearts Wake
Earthwalker

Metalcore has never been so good. I rarely like this stuff, but these Aussies have sure outdone themselves with this saving the
environment effort.
