01.04.14 | for philosophy history I actually prefer From Socrates to Sartre by T.Z. Lavine, I highly recommend it |

01.04.14 | I had to read that in school. I liked it, but it was kind of boring. Sophie's World will do more to get you into philosophy, but if you're already interested, than Socrates to Sartre is probably better. Lavine is a bit more specific whereas Gardner is fairly broad. |

01.04.14 | If you want something philosophy related I'd recommend Michel Foucault - The Order of Things.
As for listening to music while reading, I find that ambient music can sometimes enhance the emotional connection I have with what I'm reading. |

01.04.14 | Woah that order of things sounds interesting JT. Ordered, going to be scratching me head until 2016. |

01.04.14 | Cheers guys, especially for the philosphy recs, I shall check them all out soon.
JT yeah I've found that with some really odd combinations (listening to warm ambient while reading Windup Bird Chronicle). I also tried listening to Bloodbox's Mother of Dust while reading a horror novel. Easy way to scare yourself shitless under an hour. |

01.04.14 | @Zak: The first chapter where he talks about the painting Las Meninas is my favourite part of The Order of Things. It
influenced the way in which I perceive visual art. |
