| Alexisonfire Ranked
AOF is probably my favourite band ever? I dunno. But they have a new single and likely a new LP on the way this year so it feels right to rank 'em.
Here's everything they've ever released (excluding live albums and demo/rarity releases) ranked according to my opinion, which I'm positive only about 6% of you will agree with (sorry). Also ranking the songs from each release worst-to-best. Because why not.. | 9 | | Alexisonfire Aussie Tour 7''
It's an official release so I'll count it but really it's a 7" of a couple cover songs... they sound great and are a fun listen but eh..
2. I'm Stranded
1.The Dead Heart | 8 | | Alexisonfire Math Sheet Demos
Super interesting listen for the hardcore fan, really fun to see exactly where the band started. Otherwise there's nothing really noteworthy here (it is a demo, after all), outside of the hilariously titled 'Math Sheet'-exclusive tune The Philosophical Significance of Shooting My Sister In The Face: An Essay by James Secord.
3. Counterparts And Number Them
2. Little Girls Pointing And Laughing
1. Philosophical Significance | 7 | | Alexisonfire/Moneen The Switcheroo Series
A fun collab/split album (EP?) with great production but, by nature of the project itself, it isn't enough to amount to more than a fun gimmicky listen for fans of both bands. The original tunes by AOF & Moneen here are both killer though.
6. Sharks In Danger
5. Accidents Are On Purpose
4. Passing Out In America
3. Bleed And Blister (ver 2)
2. Tonight I'm Going To Wash The Hippy
1. Charlie Sheen vs. Henry Rollins | 6 | | Alexisonfire Death Letter
I get the feeling a lot of AOF fans don't like when Dallas' City & Colour-isms creeps into the mix, which is fair. I don't really mind, personally. But I understand why said hardcore fans either don't like this Ep or just discount it altogether. Whatever, it essentially is a City and Colour EP feat. Wade but some of these renditions are surprisingly affecting, and at the time it came out I remember being weirdly emotional about it all.
6. Burial
5. Accept Crime
4. Midnight Regulations
3. You Burn First
2. Born And Raised
1. Happiness By The Kilowatt | 5 | | Alexisonfire Alexisonfire
This is where I'm gonna get hate. Fuck it. No, I'm not saying this album is bad, nor do I dislike this album by any stretch of the imagination. I think it's an important and groundbreaking record for the Canadian hardcore scene and for post-hardcore in general. Their willingness to throw all caution to the wind on this album is amazing and it's execution is perfect. That being said, it's that willingness that makes this album simultaneously admirable and messy. I get that the messy, amateurishness is the appeal and it's an insanely fun album. I just think personally that the band got better once they decided to focus on songwriting and realized that crazy wacky idea after crazy wacky idea can only sustain an album for so long.
Some of the tunes on here are fucking incredible though, god damn.

Look, this album is way sicker than you folks give it credit for. Thing is a damn fine heavy alt-rock/post-hardcore record. Production is top-notch, songwriting is mature, lyrics are.. okay? Alright it's probably their worst LP from a lyrical standpoint but the music makes up for it. The light blues influence here adds to sound of the record as a whole and tunes like The Northern, Emerald St, Sons of Privilege, and Midnight Regulations provide some of the most infectious hooks in the bands entire catalogue. Also nobody talks about how much Wade shines on this album. His vocals are in top form and he sounds fucking killer when he get the chance.

I listened to this album again the other day and one thing I don't see many people talking about is Ratbeards drumming on here. Holy fuck the dude is an absolute beast and his grooves on this album are insane. Fuck.
Anyways, it was Wade I think who said with this album the band felt like they "beat the end guy in screamo," and I think that's a pretty appropriate way of putting it. The songwriting is top-notch, performances in top form, and it sold enough to top the charts! (okay i'll stop). Essentially the perfect 2000s post-hardcore record, they fully perfected the sound to a T. Classic album, not a bad track in the bunch.

1. To A Friend | 2 | | Alexisonfire Watch Out!
Hot fuck this album is still insane. THIS is the perfect amalgam of the s/t and their later sound. Bridged the gap perfectly. The super experimental, off-the-wall "anything goes" approach is still present here (complete with goofy and tongue in cheek lyrics), but it's all refined into more focussed songwriting. The parts have meaning, and the experiments serve to enhance the atmosphere. So many amazing moments on here.. the ending of Sharks, the heavenly time-signature changes in Control, all of Happiness. God damn, love it.

I remember when this came out people were all stoked because they hated Old Crows and George was screaming again so everyone was like "they're going back to their old sound finally!" But truth be told, this EP is nothing like their "old sound". Couldn't be farther from it. Yes, they're experimenting again but the attention to atmosphere here is astounding. Every song sounds consistently gnarly, like it's soaked and dripping with the titular liquid. The quieter moments of reprieve are tasteful and the instrumental compositions are truly the best they've ever been. Darker and heavier than anything they've done before, but again the careful attention to melody and the mature songwriting ensures that this isn't just a throwaway EP of bR00TaL hEaViNeSs!!1 One of my favourite EPs of all time and AOF's best release. Fight me.

02.05.19 | They have a new single? The Kennedy Curse is their greatest song for me. I'd have 2 and 5 in as 1 and 2. | furpa
02.06.19 | Yeah man! New single comes out on Feb. 15th. Called Familiar Drugs. Woo! | GhostB1rd
02.06.19 | This ranking doesn't even make sense. | GhostB1rd
02.06.19 | Bouncing from one thing to the next to the next is what makes S/T so endlessly replayable. | GhostB1rd
02.06.19 | Also, I'll cut a bitch who says S/T doesn't have far and away the best instrumental passages. | Papa Universe
02.06.19 | seems about right.
though I do prefer Crisis over Watch Out!
interesting pick for number 1. | Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.06.19 | Watch out>s/t>doesnt matter>old crows>the irrelevant ones from 6 to 9 | Lord(e)Po)))ts
02.06.19 | Altho if you said any of the irrelevant ones in 6-9 were better than oc/yc I wouldnt be bothered | furpa
02.06.19 | Lol fuck I knew I'd get shit on. To be honest, I get that this ranking is thoroughly backwards for a lot of Alexis fans here. Oop.
@GhostB1rd, yeah the instrumentals on s/t are top but personally don't even touch Dog's Bloods compositions for me. Have you listened to that EP recently? Yo it's so sick, the riff core riff and when the bridge breaks down to that fucking groove in Black As Jet. The guitar solo like 2/3rds through Grey. Fucking all of Vex. Not to mention they all sound like they were written with a consistent tone in mind.
@Potsy, yeah honestly the other EPs and minor releases didn't really have any chance against the other shit but I felt like including em anyways lol. Aussie Tour 7" is pretty throwaway though.. | Ecnalzen
02.06.19 | I love Crisis, and then Watch Out right behind it.
The Switcheroo Series was interesting, but the Moneen covers of AoF were kinda meh. | furpa
02.06.19 | @Ecnalzen agreed. The AOF covers were solid as hell but despite my love for Moneen I feel like they didn't bring that much to the table in comparison lol. The Sharks And Danger cover is pretty much a note-for-note replication. | GhostB1rd
02.06.19 | S/T
Watch Out
Crisis
Dog's Blood
Cardinals | Rowan5215
02.06.19 | Dogs Blood is correctly placed in this list and Crisis is placed acceptably. Good job. | Sinternet
02.06.19 | crisis is 1 easy |
