Mad.

YetAnotherBrick

acorncheese
05.30.13 | Love that feeling |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Congrats man, I just can't seem to finish my shit at the moment, which is depressing. |
SmersH
05.30.13 | It's a Western; bounty hunters and mid life crises and unruly mexicans - started it in university but since i dropped that and moved to France i finally have time to finish!
Oh man it feels great. Third draft nearly done. |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | How old are you? |
SmersH
05.30.13 | @bbb - twenty four |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Good effort man.
I started mine last year, but have seriously fucked it. |
SmersH
05.30.13 | Thanks - began mine last year as well. I get it... I've re-written mine nearly three times now.
I guess that's the double edged effect you get when you never plot anything out and just let it sorta write itself... |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Yeah, I always start with a situation in my head and then run with it. I don't like the idea of plotting, but I think I may have to start.
|
SmersH
05.30.13 | I've tried plotting a couple times.... thing is i end up knowing what's going to happen - then get bored building to that point; in the end it gets shelved.
Yeah it's a pretty spontaneous way to start - I actually wrote the ending for this novel first then re-wrote it into a beginning. 0_o |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Cool idea! I'd find that a bit risky, but each to their own, hey?
I agree with you about getting bored. One of the best things about writting is the journey that you take yourself on (as corny as that sounds). |
SmersH
05.30.13 | Nah that's totally it - I mean, this novel went in one direction then veered off and changed so many times; so much fun, so unpredictable.
Meant to ask: what is yours about? |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Exactly.
A loner who is anti-technology walks into his office with the intention of killing his co-workers, before he gets a chance to shoot them they die of a virus. He then gets his wish and lives in a world without technology, but he is alone. How does he cope?
The first half is easy, but after the virus it's hard to write without thinking of the fucking stand by Stephen King. |
SmersH
05.30.13 | Interesting - I love writing the loner character. There's definitely a lot you can do with that, for sure.
Yeah... it'll be tough to avoid the post-apocalyptic stuff that's been and gone (and there's been a hell of a lot). The anti-tech thing is a good angle - could be a way of avoiding the typical setting. Most folks would want to re-build. Sounds like your character wouldn't.
I donno... that stuck out as a somewhat different angle - reverting to the simpler age, type thing. Definitely keep going, though! |
ButteryBiscuitBass
05.30.13 | Cheers man, I'll crack it, I'm sure. Just very busy at work and home at the moment and I'm stessing lol. |
SmersH
05.30.13 | Hah, true. Try what i did: sell all your possessions, quit school and jet to a foreign country. Nobody bothers you until you learn the language ;)
Good luck, man. |
Spec
05.30.13 | That's really cool man. I'd love to read it. |
GuanoBumbershoot
05.30.13 | I praise you for your patience to write a novel man. I once tried to write a short story, but I just lost my patience and thought it was trash. I think I've accepted I usually only have the ambition to make coffee and buy cigarettes. Would definitely read your novel though if it became possible. |
SmersH
05.30.13 | Thank you, it ain't easy, that's for sure.
I gave my self a goal - a prize at the end of the week if i wrote 10,000 words a day.
I'll have to post another list in a few weeks when it's - at long, long last - finally finished!!
I think i finally got a title, too (strangely the hardest part so far)
"The Righteous Wrath of Dishonorable Men" |
GnarlyShillelagh
05.30.13 | Sounds like a shai hulud song
Also huge congrats to you man, book sounds awesome |
