10.03.11 | Needs some of that Aquemini, solid list though |
WailinTim31
10.03.11 | @MisterTornado: Agreed on Aquemini but I wanted to keep it with one album per band. Otherwise there would be some multiple groups up there. |

10.03.11 | Love Run DMC, but they never had a full album that I would put up with my favorites, which is what this list is. I'm sure you could fit alot of other classics on there that aren't to my personal tastes i.e. Jay-Z, Eminem, Kanye etc. |

10.04.11 | Good list. But wow, man. I am shocked that someone made one of these lists and it doesn't include Mos Def - Black On Both Sides. I'm not shocked that it doesn't include Pharaohe Monch - Internal Affairs, but it still upsets me. |

sublimefan1991
10.04.11 | "sublimefan1991 is a fucking loser though and apparently does not know what good rap is." i own 3
of the cd's on this list and have heard plenty of individual songs from the others, so i'm not just
saying that from a totally ignorant point of view. the punchlines from all the old school rap i've
heard are garbage. production-wise, it's not even close to today's standards, and the skill level
of old rap is hilarious. listen to the first verse of "earl" by earl sweatshirt. or how about em's
verse in "no one's iller." the rhyme schemes and thought that goes into them is impressive as fuck
and shits all over old rap from a technical standpoint. show me an old-school rapper that even
comes close to early em's standards, rhyming 2,3, fuck up to 7 syllables in a row for occasionally a
dozen rhymes in a row. old rap is shit that a 7th grader could write and is just a bunch of
garbage. i don't give two fucks if someone lived in poverty or how many gangs they're in either.
so if you're gonna rap about that stuff, at least make it skilled or funny or daring, but all the
old school rap i've given a chance has been a huge let down. |

10.04.11 | You know, I used to really hate people. Over the past few years I've grown to appreciate the different things people have to offer. Talents lie in different areas, so the blind criticism I used to apply to the entire human race isn't truly deserved. Sometimes I wonder why I used to hate people so much, and why I thought people were just unforgivably stupid as a general rule. Then I see someone like sublimefan1991 and it all makes sense again. |
sublimefan1991
10.04.11 | lol maybe i'll take someone's reply seriously if they actually try to counter any of the points i made in my post rather than just play the "fuck sublimefan" card. |
flamingmouse
10.04.11 | fuck sublimefan |
Idnuf
10.04.11 | Well no one is countering any of your points because you're obviously an idiot but I'll humor you:
"i own 3 of the cd's on this list and have heard plenty of individual songs from the others"
Truly sufficient experience to say "fuck old school rap, it just sucks". I mean really there are only like 10 old school rap albums, right?
"the punchlines from all the old school rap i've heard are garbage."
Here's the kind of statement that proves your overwhelming idiocy and renders you unworthy of any kind of serious response. In fact, this is such an obviously fallacious segment of your argument, I have a hard time believing anyone could type it, read it, and deem it a good point. So the punchlines you heard in the 3 old school rap albums you've listened to didn't impress you? This point rests entirely on YOUR experience, not the objective worth of music. Even if you had listened to more than a laughable amount of old rap, this is clearly a subjective point. |
Idnuf
10.04.11 | "production-wise, it's not even close to today's standards"
Did I say the last point proved your overwhelming idiocy? Well this is another A-list contender for dumbest argument I've ever seen on this site. Again this is a subjective point, and this sentence is so incredibly vague it's impossible to even argue with. I can't counter your points if none of them are halfway legitimate. Standards in what respect? Is complexity synonymous with goodness? Personally I tend to prefer the production popular in the 90s to the production popular now, so this argument is moot.
Then you go on to fellate Eminem for a few hours. I'm sorry to inform you that people look for more than technicality. The way you talk about it makes it painfully obvious that you have unrefined taste in rap. I'm surprised that you are 19 or 20 years old, because you have the logic and taste of a 12 year old. Technicality is not a draw for someone who is truly versed in rap. Dense rhyming is cool and when used sparingly can be appealing, but anyone who has suffered through hours of generic backpacker rap knows how easy it to throw together a bunch of words that rhyme. It takes talent to balance technicality and tastefulness, and this was one of the things Eminem used to be good at. Unfortunately he's a joke now, but unintrusive multi-syllabics are hard to pull off and he did it all the time. That being said, Hopsin sucks, and you aren't worth the time of the day (and I can't believe I just wrote this much for you). You have horrendous taste, you don't understand that rap is about more than how many words you can rhyme, and are doomed to obsess of personality-less rappers that think excessive rhyming is a virtue. Fuck you. |

10.04.11 | Get 8Ball & MJG's On Top Of The World. It's better than any album on the list. |

10.04.11 | Great list WailinTim.
There is so much wrong with sublimefan's comments that I don't want to even dig in, but thankfully Idnuf has done a good job taking care of that.
But, actually, guys, sublimefan does have a point. I mean "Explode in a bitch's mouth like a gusher" is SUCH a better punchline than anything written before 2000! |

10.26.12 | "sublimefan1991" doesn't know because he hasn't listened to KRS-ONE |
