That sucks. The thing that pissed me off about the last movie is how there's no epic battle between the death eaters and the aurors when dumbledore dies. The death eaters jus runaway with no oposition. That was a major flaw in the movie. |

07.16.11 | Yeah, I just watched it. It was actually pretty great. It started off awesome, and even though they fucking changed 70% of it, some of them were good. Maybe not as good as what happened in the book, but nevertheless serviceable. I wanted to see Harry cruciatus the Carrows' ass, but I realized that there was not enough context about the Carrows to warrant it. So the McGonagall-Snape mini-duel was pretty cool.
The battle didn't follow the format but was decent enough. Etc. etc.
Then suddenly Harry died and came back, and the rest fucking sucked. I mean nothing followed the script, and for worse definitely. The killing of Nagini was too dragged out (I guess they wanted to make it climactic but really, we all knew Nagini died. Even those who didn't watch HP knew Nagini had to go). And Harry vs Voldemort, what the fuck? I wanted to see Voldemort vs McGonagall/Slughorn/whoeverthefuckthelastpersonwas and Bellatrix vs Hermione/Luna/Ginny. |

There are a few things to argue there.
1) It's arguable whether or not movies should even follow books. (I think they should, but they have to cut out some events that admittedly contribute nothing to the plot besides character development and building the experience, i.e., Quidditch in the books.)
2) You can use that as a solid argument if the alternative (what happened in the book) was better than the movie. I didn't complain about the little duel b/c the alternative wouldn't have worked well (You can't just have Harry uncharacteristically use Crucio on some idiots without some backstory), but then I complained about Harry vs Voldemort because the book did it so much better. |

Yeah it's definitely worth watching IMO. If you try to enjoy the movie for what it is, it's pretty solid. Granted, the ending still leaves a lot to be desired, but you'll definitely enjoy it. The only people who seem to have disliked it are those who expected it to be exactly like the book has it (as though that's even viable, let alone practical). |

07.16.11 | @Slum, much better lol. I can agree with a decent amount. The first scene (Gringott's) was the best by far, but I actually thought it was pretty okay. I'm glad they ditched the Dumbledore backstory, but you're right it was pretty rushed.
And the jokes didn't seem that bad, except I agree that the timing was horrible. Fucked up the atmosphere so hard, and all the idiots in the theater laughed when it was like a serious mood.
But I still think overall, it was pretty good. Yeah, he entire last scene pissed me fucking off. The Nagini cat-and-mouse scene was so contrived and unnecessary, and the Harry vs Voldemort was way too Hollywood and too little J.K. Rowling. But the rest of it was actually really great, surprisingly. |
