| Dimebag Remembered
Though Pantera are certainly not as prevalent on my playlists these rdays, Dimebag Darrell rAbbott's influence remains. A good man, a rgreat musician, and essentially a legend in the rworld of metal. rThese are some of my favorite Dime moments from each of Pantera's rlater ralbums. (hair metal isn't real) | 1 | | Pantera Cowboys From Hell
"Cowboys From Hell" -- intro (0:00 - 0:50) -- One of the coolest riffs I've
heard in music to this day.////////////////////////////
"Domination" -- outro (3:00 - end) Intense.////////////////////////
"Shattered" -- The whole song is fantastic guitar wankery that somehow
works. | 2 | | Pantera Vulgar Display of Power
"Mouth For War" -- (0:12 - 0:30) Great lead-in and one of my favorite Dime
riffs. (3:06 - end) The whole band goes into overdrive.////////////////////////////
"A New Level" - the solo. comeon. no-brainer//////////////////////
"Hollow" -- (2:48 - 3:17) Takes it from a ballad to a brawl with an
unsettling guitar line. The outro is also one of my favorites. | 3 | | Pantera Far Beyond Driven
"Strength Beyond Strength" -- (0:00 - 1:09) The first time I heard this
song, it was the best chaos I'd ever been exposed to. Probably a big
contributor to my eventual search for math metal.//////////////////
"5 Minutes Alone" - All///////////////////////////
"Slaughtered" - The main riff in the beginning and so forth. | 4 | | Pantera The Great Southern Trendkill
"Floods" -- (3:03 - end) The start of this tune is entirely too boring, but the
pay off begins about midway through the song and leads to one of the
most memorable guitar solos in the genre. Also, the final notes are
gorgeous./////////////////////////
"Sandblasted Skin (Reprise)" -- (2:31 - 3:00) A simple, but absolutely
venomous diddle with the Abbott brothers sounding like they're actually
having blast playing off each other. | 5 | | Pantera Reinventing The Steel
"You've Got To Belong To It"-- (0:09 - 0:21) Great use of a whammy.//////////////////////////////////////////
"Revolution Is My Name" -- (0:45 - end) Ignoring the fact that the
beginning is just, for lack of a better word, bizarre; this song is packed with
awesome guitar parts. | |
