06.07.10 | list is roughly in order, by rating/alphabetical. also, fuck me I can't believe I got all the artwork on the first try! |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | I still need to hear Cannibal Ox and Viktor Vaughn, but other than that, I approve of this list. |
BigHans
06.07.10 | I still have to listen to 3. Love "Reunited" off of 55. Its Wu Motherfuckers, Wu Tang Motherfuckers. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | 'pit: they're both excellent, Viktor Vaughn is just MF DOOM's super-villain alter ego (Dr. Doom's real name was Victor Von Doom in Fantastic 4). I think you'd like all three of those albums.
BigHans: yeah, album's pretty underrated, although they probably could've cut the fat and just made a regular album instead of the double. Triumph ftw |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | oh, and listen to 3 like, NOW. well, you know, after reading my review and shit |
BigHans
06.07.10 | BigHans: yeah, album's pretty underrated, although they probably could've cut the fat and just made a regular album instead of the double. Triumph ftw
^ And "A Better Tomorrow" You Cant Party your life away, drink your life away, smoke your life away, fuck your life away, cause your seeds grow up the same way. |
BigHans
06.07.10 | I would add 2 Live Crew, As Nasty As they Want to Be. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | yeah man that song's great too. don't forget Visionz and The City. oh, and also "As High As Wu-Tang Get" |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | haha, I'm can't say I'm a huge 2 Live Crew fan, but even if I were I'm not sure they'd fit in with the whole underground/indie/backpack rap theme. |
JAV
06.07.10 | I've heard about half of these. |
Maniac!
06.07.10 | needs moar A Tribe C....... wait....
you got it |
Maniac!
06.07.10 | oh fuck me, i forgot that doesnt work on lists.
damnit.
i hate you all. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | JAV: well it's time to get the other half!
LewzikBraniac: now how could I make a list about this kind of hip hop and leave off Tribe?! |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | Every time I hear that intro on liquid swords, a little pee comes out |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | really? for me it's a little doo-doo |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | I pee when I get excited..... |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | really? I poop. excited, mad, horny, doesn't matter really. |
cvlts
06.07.10 | I have Madvillian, its all right. With that said, should I still get MF Doom and Viktor Vaughn? |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | I'd say that depends on what you like or don't like about Madvillain. Madlib's production on that album is a bit sparse and minimalist, which is completely different than MF DOOM's style of beats (he self-produces the MF DOOM albums) and the Viktor Vaughn beats are dark like Madvillain, but are much more accessible or melodic or something (he uses various producers on those albums).
The rhyming style isn't all that different though, so if you don't like that on Madvillain then his other albums probably won't change your mind. |
Counterfeit
06.07.10 | Yay you finally made a list about it. I only got 15 of these D:
Makes me a sad panda. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | well it looks like you got about 40 albums to pick up Counterfeit ;-) |
Hyperion1001
06.07.10 | I just listened to Liquid Swords driving home from the lake today and it's probably one of the only hip-hop albums i can listen to from start to finish without skipping songs.
My taste in hip-hop is very specific though, i did listen to Enslaved's Vertebrae as well, so yeah... |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | yeah Liquid Swords rules, check out 17 and 25 if you haven't, they're kind of along the same lines |
Hyperion1001
06.07.10 | Love 17, but I've never heard 25, so I'll check it out.
Pretty much what i listen to at the moment is 6,5,7 (actually all ATCQ) 15,16,17,27,28. Those are probably the best examples of where my taste is right now. |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | ah, well in that case I'd recommend 10, 14, 18, 20, 23, 25, 30, 32, 42-44 and 53-55. |
buckfutter
06.07.10 | Of course, list is win. But the lack of Dipset on here disturbs me |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | I hate Cam'ron, but even if I didn't, the Diplomats don't really fit in with the likes of Atmosphere, MF DOOM and Wu-Tang Clan as indie or backpack rap in my book.
just sayin |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | what it is Bulldog?! is Madvillain your favorite DOOM-related record? |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | haha I've got it on CD, it's worth it -- esp if you listen in your car because the sound quality is so much better than a mp3 player, iPod or ripped disc.
it's probably my favorite as well, but I'm a pretty big fan of all his stuff, even Born Like This. |
Dryden
06.07.10 | sup catdog |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | oh man I've wasted so much money on CDs in my life. I'm almost 25 though, so iPod's weren't around during most of my youth.
I have about 10,000 songs in iTunes right now, and I'd wager that about 6,000-7,000 of those are from actual CDs. I have at least 400 of them, probably more haha. |
Romulus
06.07.10 | how good is 19? i've been meaning to check it out for a while |
Inveigh
06.07.10 | I like 19 more than Never Better Romulus, it's more gritty/raw. It could be that I just got into it about 4 years before Never Better came out, but it has more "wow" type moments for me. Check out these two songs for a taste:

08.02.10 | saul williams |
Maniac!
01.19.12 | goddamnit, Blake, what was the name of that one hip-hop group that had slug in it? The thing he did way before Atmosphere. Used to have them but can't remember their name anymore... |
Emim
01.19.12 | still some stuff I need to get from this. good bump, brando |
Maniac!
01.19.12 | Dynospectrum and Deep Puddle Dynamics
Got it, thanks anyway! |
pcar
01.19.12 | Great list |
Inveigh
01.19.12 | yeah Dynospectrum rules
I'd probably change this list a lot if I re-did it today -- even though I did intentionally leave out a lot of more well-known stuff |
AggravatedYeti
01.19.12 | listsucks. |
AggravatedYeti
01.19.12 | lol no. |
