09 Digs

Yeah, some more 09 Digs for everybody. My total albums rated for this year has now exceeded 200 and these are some of the recent highlights to grace my ears. In general, a 3 = I enjoyed the album, so these are albums that I really enjoyed, so get them...
1Ghost Brigade
Isolation Songs

4.5 - Atmospheric Sludge Metal/Post-Rock from Finland. "Isolation Songs" Just from the title, you know it's going to rule. This is a very moody album with hardcore growls. One of the year's strongest metal albums.
2Archive
Controlling Crowds

4.0 - Alternative Rock/Trip Hop from UK. This caught me by surprise, very underrated.
3Fun.
Aim and Ignite

4.0 - Indie Pop from USA. After over 40 plays I had to increase the rating on this to a 4.
4Church of Misery
Houses of the Unholy

4.0 - Stoner/Sludge/Doom Metal from Japan. Woo, thick as fuck guitars...
5Anaal Nathrakh
In the Constellation of the Black Widow

4.0 - Black Metal/Grindcore from UK. Knew this would rule....
6CunninLynguists
Strange Journey Volume One

3.5 - Southern Hip Hop from USA. Same deal as 'Aim and Ignite', this one has been played to death and still remains a very strong release. I don't understand how this album has not been picked up yet because they're a very good group and released well-received previous albums. At the moment, this is also my favourite Hip Hop album from 2009 (better than P.O.S. and J Dilla) although I haven't listened to Raekwon's latest yet...In other words, everybody should look into this because it's been criminally overlooked!
7Destroyer 666
Defiance

3.5 - Thrash Metal/Black Metal from Australia. Yeah, aussie metalheads deliver once again...
8General Surgery
Corpus In Extremis: Analysing Necrocriticism

3.5 - Grindcore from Sweden. Slays.
9The Appleseed Cast
Sagarmatha

3.5 - Indie Rock/Post-Rock. Nice to hear some great Post-Rock from an up until now 'under-performing' genre in 2009...
10Augury
Fragmentary Evidence

3.5 - Progressive Death Metal from Canada.
11dredg
The Pariah, the Parrot, the Delusion

3.5 - Art Rock/Progressive Rock from USA. I know i'm a bit late to rate some of these but my rec list is a mile long...
12Fleshgod Apocalypse
Oracles

3.5 - Brutal Death Metal/Technical Death Metal from Italy. This one was real nice, laced with some Classical segments for the more cultured metalhead...
13Florence and The Machine
Lungs

3.5 - Indie Pop from UK. Lovely voice...
14Funebrarum
The Sleep of Morbid Dreams

3.5 - Blackened Death Metal from USA.
15Artillery
When Death Comes

3.5 - Thrash Metal from Denmark. I was expecting this to be the best thrash of 09 from what I had heard about it. It was really enjoyable and easy to get into although not the best of the year. Still, worthy addition, and very much underrated.
16Chris Clark
Totems Flare

3.5 - IDM from UK. I think sputnik gave this a bit too much of a hard time. It's a terrific album and deserves to be more than '3.3'
17Dan Auerbach
Keep it Hid

3.5 - Singer/Songwriter from USA. Loved this...
18Combichrist
Today We Are All Demons

3.5 - Industrial/Techno/EBM from Norway. This just snuck in as a guilty pleasure. It's fucking crazy and I really liked it...
