05.29.09 | meh ive never been much of a film fanatic. i gamed for 7 years, it's a way to kill time or submerge yourself in a virtual reality and lose touch with human society, not an art form. |

05.29.09 | a movies site always seemed like a logical expansion/sister site for this. It could look a lot like it looks now: ratings on a 1-5 scale, reviews, lists. |

05.29.09 | the best site i've found for movies that's like sputnikmusic is Moviescenester.com it's run by the lead singer of New Found Glory. It's a pretty cool site though i guess. Lots of tools there though |

05.29.09 | "There is currently a none percent chance of this happening.
Although within the current staff, all of these things could be very possible, we aren't exactly big enough to try and expand into so many territories"
Interesting. If SputnikMovies were ever to be i'm sure there are a few film buffs hiding in the current userbase that could be advertised for (strangely, the movies/video forum is full of a lot of people who only seem to post there) and trusted to operate as basic staff until the ball gets rolling. It would be good if both sites linked to the main forums as well, could be worth a lot of traffic.
"no please dont do this
music matters, dont lump it in with video games and cinema"
ideally, the music section of the site would still exist as it is. there would be no changes that affect the current userbase so I would see no reason to complain.
"if you want to rate music and movies on the same site use rym"
i've never been fond of rateyourmusic as a whole, though a fantastic database it seems completely impersonal. sputnik's system of pumping out staff reviews alongside user written ones is something that would be really good to see used elsewhere. |

05.29.09 | In theory I'd think that it could be a good idea but I'd be worried that this site would just end up like IGN... populated by a bunch of 12 year olds with stupid things to say about music/movies and bitching because their mommies enabled the parental controls on iTunes. |

Yeah, it is a worry. The more exposed something gets the more people it's going to attract which may lead to such things. Then again, it could work out really well, a lot of sputnik is inconsequential bitching as it is :3
"Not to be a douche, but whenever we have tried to add mainly forum users as part of the review site, it fails pretty epically."
mmm, just an idea. well, however it pans out if it does

05.29.09 | if you make it a completely different site then this and only affiliate it then yes. Making it a section of this site would be a terrible idea. Otherwise it is absolutely no different then a music review site. Plus you don't need a lot of film buffs to have a large community. Last time I checked it's not like everyone on this site actually knows anything about music.
Plus I would like to review films. |

05.29.09 | If it was made I'd sign up for sure, because I think it could work. But there are other movie sites that give me basically everything I want, so I don't think Sputnikmovies is really necessary. |

I don't see how this is a problem, it's populated by a bunch of 10 year olds right now. :-X |

06.30.09 | Wouldn't work. Sputnikmusic occupies a market niche that simply doesn't translate to movies. |
MassiveAttack
06.30.09 | < film buff, but it's difficult to get it up and running after all you'd need most of this community which is a bit scarce unfortunately. |
Meatplow
06.30.09 | Even the biggest websites had to start somewhere. I'm sure many users here would be curious at the very least, and try it on for a little while. If it managed to grow (and I think it could given the influence of the music reviews site which has gotten pretty big, at least a small section of people who wind up here would be interested) it could wind up being a connected but separate movie section something close to what sputnik is now, both professional and user content existing side by side which is something I don't think is being offered at all anywhere on the web in terms of movie reviews. Both websites could link back to the forums and to each other, and a whole cross section of users can mingle. "Sputnikmedia" could branch out and get really big as a concept. Or maybe not, its just an idea.
"Wouldn't work. Sputnikmusic occupies a market niche that simply doesn't translate to movies."
This doesn't detail why it couldn't it just says it currently doesn't. :/ |

06.30.09 | "On paper sure a community based movie review site sounds good. But, having some highschool dropout signup and bitch that "Never Back Down" got a low score is not something anyone should have to deal with."
Is this potential outcome any worse then the current highschool dropouts that populate this website bitching about the latest Sputnik trend album getting a staff review score they disagree with?
There have been plenty of exceptional reviews on this site as well as the latest feeble mumblings about Metallica. You would get the good with the bad. |
