Looking For Punk Recs
I love punk but sometimes I feel like I am spinning the same records again and again. Hence this list (which is also my *first*): I am looking for recommendations of your favorite punk albums. Not really picky about sub-genres either, go crazy — I am just looking forward to exploring new (to me) records of a genre I love so much. |

ONLY RULE: Up to 3 recommendations per user, in order to *actually* listen to all these records.
The goal is to check 1-2 albums every weekday and write down my thoughts and ratings on each record (in an act of pure shameless copying of other users' ideas for lists - shoutout to @JoyfulPlatypus and @Hawks for inspiring this list); will try my very best to stick to that goal and go through your suggestions. Here we go~ |
| 2 | | Stormtroopers of Death Speak English or Die

THOUGHTS: Relentlessly frenetic in sound and hilariously over-the-top in lyrics, the entire thing is a GREAT jam; heavily enjoyed its mix of thrash metal and hardcore and its short length means the music never overstays its welcome (in reference to the original). It's unfortunate that, after 'Fist Banging Mania', there are too many short "tracks" that end right when they find their groove — but the whole record packs a lot of punch.

THOUGHTS: Oh YES. This is a very unique blend of surf rock and punk and I loved every minute of it. Instrumentally, it's an absolute knockout — the vocals took a little time to settle in, but from front-to-back, it's all-killer-no-filler. Even the bonus tracks on the 40th Anniversary Edition are great. Will resist the temptation to 5 this (for now) and give it a few more listens, but wow was this incredible.

THOUGHTS: LOVED every minute of it - devilishly aggressive and energetic. In love with the gutsy production, guitar solos and vocal performances which really make the lengthier tracks ('Subliminal', 'Institutionalized') feel shorter than they actually are. The entire thing goes by incredibly fast and is such a FUN record to blast. Only wish the shorter songs were developed a bit more ('Two Sided Politics', 'Memories of Tomorrow') but they're still incredible bite-sized rockers. Superb album overall, potential for 5.

| 5 | | Goria Paradoksu Ciąg Dalszy

THOUGHTS: It could very much be the novelty of the record being in a foreign language (Polish, if I am not mistaken), but I am conflicted over the vocals here; some tracks ('Paradoks 201', 'Ekstazy', 'Teatr') have a vocal conviction that is missing elsewhere (the opener, Potykam sie...). The sound is grungy and quite frenetic at times, but it's mostly sprawling to the point that some of these songs would be better off being much shorter (like the penultimate track). But I rarely come across a non-English-speaking punk record and it was interesting getting into it; intrigued to listen to it in the future with the hopes that the vocals and the sprawl grow on me.

| 6 | | Stand Atlantic Sidewinder
Recommended by @arthropod
THOUGHTS: Though it starts out too anthemic and formulaic for my taste, it's a short and sweet slice of pop-punk and pop-rock that does find its footing around the middle point ('Push' and 'Coffee at Midnight' are the highlights here). The vocals fit the genre nicely and have ample energy to spare, but the lyrics and instrumentation are very by-the-numbers, especially in its first two tracks. Quite easy to get into it, a good mood-lifter and despite its weaknesses, I could see this growing on me with successive listens.

THOUGHTS: Another potential 5? Future listens will prove if that's the case but, for now, this is fantastic on every level and at just 30 minutes, it packs a lot of punch through its 15 songs: the production is wild, both unhinged and very melodic, Yemin's vocals are intense and the energy is relentless and a pure assault on the senses. Incredible hardcore punk that is both consistent as an album and also containing lots of superb highlights ('Past Tense, Future Perfect', 'The Beekeeper', 'Check Yr Math'), one of my favorites so far. Can't wait to listen to it again.

| 8 | | Skinhead It’s A Beautiful Day, What A Beautiful Day

THOUGHTS: This one didn't click with me, unfortunately. It mostly has to do with the vocals, which sound grating and awkward to me and come at odds with the melodic skate-punk instrumentation. I enjoyed the second half of the record far more than the first ('Dreams' through 'That's A Promise') and considering its short length (barely making it past 22 minutes), I wouldn't say this was boring. I just couldn't connect with it, despite the high-energy production and blunt lyrics.
