Sputnik Positivity #1: SandwichBubble

This is a new initiative and we'll see based on engagement/feedback if it sticks around or flames out immediately. With so much negativity seemingly in the world, and oftentimes within our own halfway broken-down little site, I figured a recurring round of kudos to those who have stuck around is long overdue. Here's how it'll work: (1) Every so often, I'll peruse the list of reviews on the lefthand panel of the main page and semi-randomly select a user to place in the spotlight. Maybe I'll occasionally mix it up and just pick the first user I see commenting that day or something. (2) The associated list then becomes a discussion of how/why that user is cool. You could cite your favorite reviews/lists/soundoffs of theirs, talk about your favorite Sputnik memories with that user, or generally discuss what they do well and how it makes the community better. Basically, this is that user's moment in the spotlight. (3) I'll add the best and most well-articulated thoughts to the list with artwork that corresponds to said user's favorite albums. (4) Hurling insults or providing snarky backhanded compliments will only ensure that you are never spotlighted, and (5) My OCD required that there be a 5th point to this, but there is not. Enjoy, hopefully!
1The Cure
Songs of a Lost World

"While I'm not as familiar with their wider body of work review-wise, I did read their Cure review very recently, and was blown away by how eloquently they examined just how unlikely the album was, both in terms of the turbulent production, and in terms of how good it was despite The Cure's last few albums pre-hiatus being more lackluster." --AnimalForce1
2Thurston Moore
Spirit Counsel

"sandwich has rec'd me some rad albums and obligingly listened to a lot of terrible albums i rec'd him out of sadism, he is real and can be trusted with anything that contains at least 16 combined guitar strings and hasn't so much as sneezed on a major label

too many of us slept on his rev/hype for thurston moore - spirit counsel in particular, including me (which i've since come to heavily regret)" --JohnnyoftheWell
3The Beach Boys
Pet Sounds

"Sandwich is a fountain of knowledge and I wish I had more time to talk to him and take little gems out of that fountain, he's a sweetie too" --Bedex
4Animal Collective
Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished

"SandwichBubble is a top 10 user of all time" --ArsMoriendi
5David Bowie
Low

"Chillest user. has rec’d me a ton of cool shit over the years. Best avatar. Goated." --tectactoe
6New Order
Movement

"Sandy is a super lovely user. I fondly remember and always look forward to the Pie Charts list he hosts yearly. He's always in for some deep discussion or some plain horsing around. On a more serious note, his Papa Universe Eulogy page made me realise how you actually come to love many users on this site that you never even meet in real life."--Trifolium
7Joy Division
Closer

"When Sandwich reveals their secret powers, all hell breaks loose. Take pages 5 & 6 of Sonic Youth’s NYC Ghosts & Flowers thread for example. While users were showing off with their BBCode skills, amusing the plebs like me, Sandwich joined in and smashed everyone. That’s greatness." --gabba
8Momus
Circus Maximus

"Years ago there was nowhere to stream or buy australian band Youth Groups 1st LP Urban and Eastern and Sandwhich sent me a file of the whole album which is an album i still jam 10 to 20 times a year. Loved that they did that for me and still think about it when jamming the album." --Storm In A Teacup
9Abner Jay
Swaunee Water and Cocaine Blues

"sandwich is super underrated as one of the funniest users of the site and has heard more albums than anyone else by a super long shot. he's got a rec for just about anybody and above all else is always positive and has been a good friend over the years." --Drifter
10The Fall
Slates

"Nobody else has done more to turn a completionist personal impulse into an all encompassing database for the user base at large. Committing to that ranking of the entire The Fall discography, my word" --porcupinetheater
11A Certain Ratio
The Graveyard and The Ballroom

"Sandwich is a very rad dude who is vital to this community in every way. He is always on the lookout for things to clean up such as broken art, his lists are always massive and well thought out, and overall he's such a fun bright spot on the site. Plus I always look forward to his pie chart lists every year!" --SteakByrnes

"You go to Sand's ratings page and find obscure punk/noise/art/experimental albums there only he and the artist have ever heard and dig out precious gems outta there. It's like a goldmine for good vibes." --someone

The Raincoats

"A truly reassuring presence on Sput, and if you don't visit his profile page to check his current number of ratings at least once every three months you're just not doing it right." --DoofDoof
15Yellow Magic Orchestra
Solid State Survivor

"I recommend all of you use sandwich as a legitimate resource, I've noticed most users don't because I look at the albums he rates and so I made a concerted effort years ago to use him and disco as a way to discover music. highly recommended. no metal though sadly" --foxblood
16Faust
Faust

"Legit one of my favorite users. Funny as hell, good guy to shoot the shit with, and absolutely loves discovering new music on a frequent basis. Also, I've always loved that Garfield gif/banner he uses for his main profile page" --Koris
17Bubblegum Splash
Splashdown

"I don’t think anyone else comes close to Sandwichbubbles encyclopedic music knowledge on this site. I tried to open his ratings page once and my phone almost exploded. As far back I can remember he’s always worked at making the database better and more complete. His community lists like the pie chart validation or his lists where he asks for recs (and he usually gets through all of them in a timely manner). He’s an essential pillar of the community and in my few interactions with him he has always been welcoming and nice" --brainmelter
18Cluster
Cluster II

"Sandwich was one of the first users to greet me politely, and I found that oddly encouraging on my second round of trying to get going on sputnik" --fogza
19GRRR
GRRR

"good user, respect to anyone with the patience to rate that many albums nevermind listen to them. definitely ratings i've perused many a time, we share quite a lot of high ratings and i've even seen him in some if my review threads" --ffs
20Joanna Newsom
Ys
