| EPify This Album! I: Damnation
Trifolium had a cool comment over on the Heritage thread about Damnation having a nice EP in it. Got me wondering if there's a thread or a series we could finagle out of it. (please someone come up with a better name while we're at it). | | 1 |  | Opeth
Damnation
The idea is pretty simple: make the best EP version of an LP. The album of choice doesn't neccessarily have to be super long, or work bad as an LP (case in point with Damnation to some degree), but let's see if we can't make it even better if we trim some fat.
Here's what to do:
1. Shorten the LP to a 30 minutes or less EP version you'd want to hear.
2. Bear in mind the transitions, change the song order as you see fit.
3. Tell me if you'd rather the album was released as the EP version or is this whole excercise sacrilege and you're all in on the original.
P.S. Maybe Damnation isn't the best record to start this thing off with, but I'm intrigued by what you guys come up with.

Easily culled My Time of Need and (especially) Death Whispered a Lullaby, choosing the last one was a lot harder. Windowpane and Closure are the only ones that are locked in. Would still prefer the LP version over this one I think. | Icebloom

09.17.24 | I think I'd be the same as you some years ago Zac, but I realised I've been looking at this record with rose tinted glasses, def not impactful as it was maybe when we were teens.
I like your list Icebloom, very close to what I had in mind. AMSP is a nice one, it could use some trimming fo sho. After some consideration I think mine would be this:
1. Closure
2. To Rid the Disease
3. Weakness
4. Ending Credits
5. Windowpane
Windowpane never really worked as an opener for me, not sure if it's the perfect closer, but out of the ones I'd keep on here, I think it's the best one

09.17.24 | Oh yes Hope Leaves would be on mine too. Definitely Weakness (!!! it so doesn't suck, it's one of my fave moments here, very strong track) and Closure as well. And Windowpane of course, that goes without saying. |
