auberginedreams 08.06.23	I forgot to mention that I also get some inspiration from video game soundtracks, mainly JRPGs (Final Fantasy, Nier, Persona/SMT, Kingdom Hearts) and Soulsborne games. It probably doesn’t show a lot in these songs but it probably will more on some future songs.

Feather 08.07.23	A buddy of mine in Chicago is doing guerilla marketing and started plastering his spotify name all over the city (on street posts and main highway overpasses) and it appears to be working. Just looked and he is just under 5k monthly listeners and his top song is ~33k streams. Lots of hard work marketing his name went into making it happen though.
auberginedreams 08.07.23	I don’t really know tbh lol, my previous peak was maybe 150 like two years ago. I posted it on a bunch of subreddits, basically anything even remotely related to this genre lol. If it gets upvoted it’ll oftentimes get added to the Spotify playlist for that subreddit, for example hardcore or emo or whatever. I think Sowing giving my EP a good review helped a lot. Also some poet or author that I’d never heard of but is apparently pretty famous shared one of my songs on a Spotify playlist so that boosted it a bit. I think focusing more on the mix master helped a lot to get people to not turn off my music right away because I think the general audience cares more about music sounding like what it’s “supposed” to sound like than people on here that are used to lofi black metal and stuff.

auberginedreams 08.07.23	That’s cool, it’s probably easier to just pay someone to mix/master it, I think I ended up spending a lot more money buying everything I needed to do it well myself but I’m glad I’m at the point where I feel more confident with it. I’d like to check out your music!
GreyShadow 08.07.23	I think my problems were moreso that the recordings I was getting were pretty amateur so I'm glad I have someone that's doing that for me now haha! check Alone I Stand, we're both very influenced by La Dispute so there's that lol.
GreyShadow 08.07.23	but yeah, i feel like unless you WANT to learn how to do something, if you're financially able, you should just find someone to do it for you, in this case mixing/mastering

auberginedreams 08.11.23	@GreyShadow, Have you heard of Submit Hub? I just found out about it a couple days ago from VeninBlazer. You can submit your songs to music curators like bloggers and reviewers and Spotify playlist makers. You can submit for free every few hours or pay and there are various benefits to spending money but it’s not necessary. I spent $20 just to see what would happen and I got added to like 5 Spotify playlists ranging from like 300 to 4,000 listeners. And I got two bloggers so far to do write ups about my music. I think you’d do well on there, it might be worth a shot! There’s also “hot or not” which is free and if you rate other people’s music you’ll get points that you can use to get your own music rated with a short review by other musicians, listeners and labels. Some of the feedback is pretty shallow but I’ve gotten some good feedback as well. When you submit to curators there’s an average rejection rate of like 85-95% so don’t get discouraged, I got 7 approvals but also like 20 rejections but I really think your music would do well dude.

GreyShadow 08.12.23	I did submit hub last year ! got on a few playlists but it's amazing how quickly momentum dies down after that lol, but it's still very cool that something like that exists. And yeah, the feedback was generally shallow but some of the playlists I got on felt very appropriate for my stuff so it worked out! I'll go back to it when I have new stuff ready
auberginedreams 08.12.23	Oh cool, yeah I’m not expecting to blow up off of it but it’s always nice to get a few more people’s ears on my music, I gained like 6 followers in the last couple days but I know what you’re saying about momentum, I’ve dropped to 800 something monthly listeners but I knew it would happen soon, I was only over 1,000 for one day lmao. But I’m hoping to get even higher when I have more music to share. It would be cool to collab on a song sometime if you’re down.
