Tim's 2023 Live Music Itinerary

includes shows I do and don't want to be at not adding bands not in the DB for now, all the headliners are in already tho
1Skinny Puppy
Too Dark Park

April 23 @ MGM Music Hall, w/ Lead Into Gold
Final SP tour. Was pretty wild at first, but I semi lost interest as the show went on. I may just be bitter because only one song from Too Dark Park was performed and it wasn't Spasmolytic. Got Tasty Burger after
2100 Gecs
10,000 gecs

4/25 @ Roadrunner, w/ Machine Girl
My friends and I didn't know what to expect, and our expectations were blown beyond belief. Whatever that means. Laughing most of the time with joy, excitement, and because what the actual fuck were we witnessing. Still not my favorite music, but great show with fun people-watching and the crowd's energy was fire. Will probably try to see them next time they are near
3Machine Girl
WLFGRL

w/ gecs. One of my favorite live bands in recent memory. Lots of energy, loud, interactive with the crowd in a not dumb way. They only played for 30ish minutes before gecs but it worked out really well with the gecs crowd
4Built to Spill
Perfect from Now On

4/26 @ The Sinclair, w/ Prism Bitch, Itchy Kitty
I love this venue. Seen some of my favorite bands here over the years, and it feels more like a bar than a concert venue. First time seeing BtS live. Doug Martsch is a very serious looking guy, but not long after he started playing I kept thinking he's up there as one of the most underrated indie guitarists ever. The whole band is incredible (Melanie, if you're reading this, I love you) and they played until 12:40 AM (most concerts in my area end at / by 11 PM). Closing out with a Carry the Zero encore, my appreciation for that track has increased ten-fold
5Prism Bitch
Perla

w/ Built to Spill. They were pretty tight, indie rock/pop band. Bought this on vinyl from the merch stand. the lil dog on the cover spoke to me
6Fever Ray
Radical Romantics

5/5 @ Roadrunner, w/ Christeeeene
Magical performance. Karin's voice was on point, everyone's outfits were epic/beautiful, the choreography was well done yet subtle. Was disheartened by how small a crowd there seemed to be
7Christeene
Basura

w/ Fever Ray. This was.. surely an experience. Music was admittedly banging. Christeene came out dressed as some type of sewer monster and stripped an item of clothing with each song, even long after I thought they ran out of clothing. Last song came with them goatse'ing the whole audience.
8Noah Kahan
Stick Season

5/27 @ Boston Calling
no ratings in the sput database, very few ratings in RYM. Local record store dude knew what date the new Godflesh album came to vinyl but had never heard of this guy. But on Saturday of Boston Calling, everyone and their mother were there for Noah Kahan. He's popular on Tik-tok, I guess. On-point live, not totally my thing but if you're into folk-pop / indie-folk he is pretty swell
9The Flaming Lips
Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

5/27 @ Boston Calling
If you've seen the Flaming Lips, you know what it was like. If you haven't, I highly recommend you do it at your earliest / next possible opportunity. Pure unadulterated child-like fun: endless confetti, massive balloons, insane LED light show, different props for different songs, etc etc. fit in really nicely with Boston Calling
10Man with a Mission
Man with a Mission

5/28 @ Brighton Music Hall
Know nothing about this band other than they are from Japan and dress like wolves. Was a fun concert, won't need to go again
11Yo La Tengo
This Stupid World

6/18 + 6/19 @ Paradise Rock Club
By far and large one of my favorite live bands. I've already blabbed enough about them live on their album pages here, night one was pure 5/5 tho. 15-minute Blue Line Swinger, absolutely bonkers Sudden Organ, From a Motel 6.. Closing out with By The Time It Gets Dark.. =]
12Grateful Dead
American Beauty

DEAD AND COMPANY
June 25 @ Fenway
Final Dead and Company show in Boston. I know very little about Grateful Dead or its various revivals, knew a few songs though. John Mayer is a phenomenal guitarist whether you like him or not. The lights and the visuals were obviously incredible, gotta keep the people on acid entertained
13Billy Strings
Home

7/25 @ Leader Bank Pavillion
This was last night at the time of posting this, and I am still in awe. This was far better than the dead+co concert. This was one of the most elating live music experiences I've ever had. All five musicians on stage are masters in their craft; none of them missed a beat and if they did there was virtually no way of telling. Billy may actually be one of the greatest guitarists ever..
14Snoop Dogg
Doggystyle

7/28 @ Xfinity Center, w/ Wiz Khalifa
Don't really have a lot to say about this one. I went to go with a big group of friends, 3/4 of them bailed day of. Still went and had a great time. Opening acts were rough because it was a DJ set playing to the whole Xfinity Center, which is a sizeable arena. My friend who is much more into hip hop told me about how some of them were OGs from early in the scene. Snoop opened with the one song by him I know (The Next Episode) which was lucky, because we left about ten songs into his set to beat the storm of cars leaving the venue. Overall it was a fun time
15Wiz Khalifa
Rolling Papers

my favorite part was him exiting the stage through a telephone booth
16JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown
Scaring the Hoes
