| Bands that Should Just Stop
Not every band releases a magnum opus in their later years, excluding Rush and Paradise Lost. Not every band still has the chops and the skills, like Fear Factory. Most bands don't fade out gracefully...The following bands should take a note from Rollins Band - quit while you’re ahead (or at least b4 you tarnish your legacy). | 1 | | Foo Fighters Medicine at Midnight
Band was already spent b4 Taylor Hawkins passed away. Now a new album w/o him. Last great album was Wasting Light - and it's been really hit or miss (more on the latter) afterwards. Just call it quits. | 2 | | Staind Staind
Please God - this is the last release we all need. TBH - I have heard way too much of (wanna-be redneck from MA) Aaron Lewis. Can’t handle any more!!! | 3 | | Motley Crue The Dirt Soundtrack
Didn’t they sign a contract never to record or tour again - and here we are again. And them trying to oust Mick Mars - who was mostly responsible for their signature sound of old? Can’t Vince, Tommy, and Nikki age out peacefully? Apparently not. | 4 | | Nickelback Get Rollin'
How many more same-same, formulaic albums must we endure. This also goes out to Shinedown, Breaking Benjamin, and the like on mainstream metal radio - you had your time. | 5 | | Metallica 72 Seasons
I like this album - but probably time to start winding down. | 6 | | Megadeth The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!
Same to u Megadeth - end on a high note (The Sick…), not another Super Collider. | 7 | | Ozzy Osbourne Patient Number 9
It’s ok to step away when you’re having bad health issues. No need to return to the stage and put yourself at risk. Also, on a side note, ur dream band would be boring AF. | 8 | | Pantera Far Beyond the Great Southern Cowboys...
Not an issue with them touring. But some things are better left in the past - for several reasons. | 9 | | Disturbed Divisive
As much as I like to hear a full album on US divisive politics - maybe time to be making that step out. | 10 | | Geoff Tate Kings & Thieves
We’ve all heard enough Queensryche | 11 | | KISS Kiss Rocks Vegas
Damn - are these dinosaurs of mediocre rock still out there. Time to go the fuckaway. Update: according to ballsohard22, they have retired - thank fuck! | 12 | | Dream Theater A View from the Top of the World
You got a Grammy (or some award) - and moved into high (Tool-level) respect levels for prog Metal. James Labrie isn’t getting any better (or changing up his vocal style). Word of advice - stop while ur ahead. | 13 | | Stone Temple Pilots Perdida
Does anyone actually buy these albums or go to these shows? Good lord - call it quits. | 14 | | Pearl Jam Gigaton
PJ and RHCP - boring!!! Please stop. | 15 | | Nightwish HUMAN. :II: NATURE.
EFMB was great - could have been a great, impactful final album. And then came HIIN with no Marco and an overall weak, redundant sound. We had heard this before - and done better. Do we need a third in a so called trilogy of these albums. We know the world is going to shit. | 16 | | Guns N' Roses Chinese Democracy
Could a band be any more washed up? | 17 | | Avenged Sevenfold Life Is But A Dream...
Same as above - you had ur time. But nothing's been as exciting or that interesting since the Rev passed away. | 18 | | Godsmack Lighting Up the Sky
The transition to mainstream sounds on When Legends Rise was enough. Any reason to tarnish your legacy further? | 19 | | Stone Sour Hydrograd
Love this band - but there's not much else for this band to accomplish. Best to stay in that hiatus. | 20 | | Iron Maiden Senjutsu
Please keep releasing prog metal masterpiece double albums! But the touring bit - could perhaps step away from that. | 21 | | Fall Out Boy Greatest Hits: Believers Never Die – Volume Two

04.30.23 | "But nothing's been as exciting or that interesting since the Rev passed away."
I might have to disagree on that, The Stage was one of their more interesting albums in their whole discography. The new song they put out however doesn't really fill me with a ton of hope. | sonictheplumber
05.01.23 | maiden should do the exact opposite of what this tard says | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | pretty sure Kiss is in fact retiring | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | a lot of these bands aren't doing shit or if they are no one cares about them so whether or not they continue is really a moot point. agree with metallica for sure and avenged sevenfold. | Storm In A Teacup
05.01.23 | Yeah the a7x one is silly. Nightmare was an amazing response to Revs death and Stage showed out. Some of these bands on this list arent even around anymore. | Storm In A Teacup
05.01.23 | Underoath should be on this list | onionbubs
05.01.23 | [2]
list needs green day too | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | you could add any glam or hair metal band that is still doing stuff like whatever alice cooper or dee snider is up too | Storm In A Teacup
05.01.23 | Anyone who says Cradle of Filth will wake up in an endless field of trifoliums. | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | or any shredder from the 80s that cant move on with the times, like michael angelo batio or malmsteen | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | conversely, bands that need to come out of retirement are varg | ballsohard22
05.01.23 | also having iron maiden on here is a strange take | bellovddd
05.01.23 | green day is THE ONLY BAND THAT SHOULD BE HERE REALLY. | BAT
05.01.23 | Surprised there's no : incubus, red hot chili peppers, smashing pumpkins, blink182, green day, rolling stones, the who, Aerosmith, Fitz and the tantrums, pixies, the offspring, black flag, dead kennedys, public image limited, modest mouse, sublime with Rome, hootie and the blowfish, reel big fish, machine gun Kelly, the murder junkies, u2, yes, Dave Matthews band, 311, sugar ray, and malevolent creation
Almost forgot about lords of acid | Parallels
05.01.23 | I honestly think Dream Theater should have stopped when Portnoy wanted to put them on haitus, even though I didn't want them to at the time. | Deathconscious
05.01.23 | The idea that a band can tarnish their legacy by releasing bad albums is dumb. If a band releases a bad album their great albums are still there exactly as they were before, there is no tarnishing. And nah, bands should keep going as long as they enjoy doing their thing. If i dont like it i just wont listen. | Purpl3Spartan
05.01.23 | Good list, although KISS has stopped, as they should. They have had an amazing career and should enjoy retirement. | Parallels
05.01.23 | >The idea that a band can tarnish their legacy by releasing bad albums is dumb. If a band releases a bad album their great albums are still there exactly as they were before, there is no tarnishing.
I disagree, there's a lot of bands that release like 2 or 3 amazing albums and then they consecutively put out garbage every time after that and it effectively ruins their image. | BookoftheFallen
05.01.23 | In flames | Shemson
05.01.23 | Bands can tarnish a legacy by pissing off old fans but also they can ruin the chance of making new fans. I hate U2 because of the crap they released over the last 20 years and will never listen to their old albums but I bet I’d like Joshua Tree if I ever tried it - would expect many others would be the same | DoofDoof
05.01.23 | The National
RHCP
Marilyn Manson | Sharenge
05.01.23 | rude | someone
05.01.23 | Muse have already made their millions, could take a fucking break now. Just do shows and chill out, yo. | JohnnyoftheWell
05.01.23 | not one mention of dance gavin dance itt SHAME ON THIS HOUSE | JDubb
05.01.23 | Let me caveat my inclusion of Iron Maiden. I’m a fan of pre- and post-2000 IM, as long as Bruce Dickinson is in it. But any band complaining of Mary Jane in the audience has been touring too long. | JDubb
05.01.23 | Also I see RHCP as an example of a band who has tarnished their legacy. Anything past BSSM or OHM is mainstream fodder to drivel. | BookoftheFallen
05.01.23 | bruce is right marijuanna is for losers. I hope iron maiden continues forever |
