Song-Of-The-Day March Campfire: Storytime!

Happy month. People dress in green and pretend to be Irish and twist each other's nipples because they forgot to wear a green jockstrap or sumthin. That's right it's time to make saints outta all you fuckin' Paddies. But y'know what the micks like as much as drinkin'? Craftin' a rambly tale! So for every drink we souse ourselves with, here's a daily sonic pairing - a song that has a narrative. Fiction, non-fiction, don't matter, just so long as the song itself contains a specific story. Long live the oral tradition! And if any o' you jokesters tries to rec anything from that Mount Eerie dead wife album, you're getting a year's worth of titty-twisters from your old pal porc (and anyone else who wants to join). Sign up and tell us a bit about your tale! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1yo9Aj7t1IZwG41xFgX9kzIugIsVckENq5RnQace1WDw/edit#gid=566213090

Surgeon's Saw - No lyrics printed, and Charlotte sure don't sing every word anywhere near legibly! BUT I can tell you this - after countless listens parsing it out, what we got here is a surreal, hyperviolent fable roaming down the streets of a crooked-toothed frontier town full of blacksmiths chained to their forges, bleeding chin tattoos, and soldiers screaming pleasantly in their sleep. Meanwhile, a band of ne'er-do-wells are chased to the river's edge. Poor things get their knees kicked in and left for the buzzards. Strange, vicious, and impassioned, just like all the best stuff from this messy, drugged up band of queer neo-cowpokes.

Ballad of Vitaly - This song recounts the story of a midair plane collision in 2002 involving a Russian passenger plane and a cargo plane, which lead to a Russian bereaved of his wife and children taking murderous revenge on the air traffic controller he deemed responsible for the crash

Naked Man - I like a story in the lyrics but I don't listen to tons of straight up, 100% storytelling. I figure this is going to be pretty heavy month with long dark songs, so here's a cheerful, short ditty about an old lady being robbed by an incestous naked guy.

On the international women's day I would like to submit a romantic song. I know it ain't Valentine's and the song should probably be empowering, but I Fucker up my Valentine, so here's a romantic one anyway. Hug your ladies or any lady you know. Or don't. Do whatever. What do I care.

Lil Ugly Mane - Uneven Compromise

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHnNLfc0OX0

This track is divided into four parts. The third part tells the day LUM encounters one of his ol' pals and how he's changed and how you can't save the lives of other people.

On top of that I do think the different track segments tell us a story of hip hop through the eyes of Lil Ugly Mane. I wrote a very pompous review detailing all that jazz

Gemini Becoming the Tripod - Once upon a time the man picked a beautiful flower and held it close to his heart so tightly that its aphrodisiac spores permeated his skin and he swooned sideways and was met by his double and simultaneously deliriously hallucinated all his past lovers as one person and the ground shaked and people scramed to evacuate the dancefloor and take things to the emergency level fucking boogie and they reconciled at the same time as god ran away and THAT, dear friends, is how babies are made

Ek skryf hierdie vir jou - Ok, thinking behind my 2nd rec. after getting an early start and listening to that fucking zappa song ahead of time, and since I'm the only one actually plowing through this stuff and all the casuals have been chased away, i've decided fuck it, i'm going to rec something that's totally not going to make anyone's day. minimal, live improvised guitar and drums backing for afrikaans spoken word poetry about grief, experience and memory. translation sites work fairly well for this btw (who am i kidding i'm just commenting on this stuff in a vacuum)

[Ed. Note - A double story here, both in the song itself, and in the gradual disintegration of fogza's patience with depleting SOTD engagement. Will such post-modern approach revive the Sput tradition, or harmonize its death knell?]

[Ed Note: Fuck it we're going out on a big fuck. Ars was practice]
I Trawl the Megahertz - It's a beautiful, sprawling chamber piece in which the narrator Yvonne Connors tells "the story of her life"; this story she tells is supplemented by anecdotes that are presented as fragments of her memory. The composition is autobiographical in nature despite having sections inspired by documentaries and phone-ins, and McAloon himself has likened it to a short film. Still one of my favorite pieces to this day
