PopGoesTheYear Update :)

1Kasper Bjørke
The Fifty Eleven Project

Howdy all, just making a little update post to check in and let my massive and adoring readership know what the situation is with my ongoing Pop Goes The Year series, and ask a couple quick questions so I can get a read on what the best way to handle the series going forward is.

Boreas

The good news is that I'm still making steady progress on the 70s lists, and I'll start posting them soon(ish)! The less good news is that life has, as they say, come at me fast, and between some unexpected change-ups in my living situation and some health stuff I won't bore you all with the details of, it's looking increasingly unlikely that I'll be able to hit my target of being 80% done with the 70s lists by the end of this month. That's okay, it was a pretty ambitious goal to begin with and it was totally self-imposed, so I forgive myself for falling a bit short!

Only for the Driven

As it stands right now, I'm thinking that if I want to continue doing bi-weekly installments (i.e. a best and a worst list every week), I probably won't resume updates until closer to April, but if I just post one list a week I'll have enough of a buffer by the end of February to comfortably resume updates on the first Wednesday of March, and will ideally be able to maintain that schedule for the rest of the 70s lists, and maybe even a little farther if I'm lucky. So my first question is: Which update schedule would y'all prefer? Would your thirst for PGTY content be sated with a mere single list per week, or should I keep things as is and put off updates for a little longer than expected? Personally, I'm fine with either, so if anyone has a preference one way or the other that will likely dictate the direction I decide to go.

Shadow Seeking Sun

My second question is about the Spotify playlists I'm making to accompany the project. I've been considering splitting the best/worst playlists into decade-specific chunks, just so we don't end up with any unwieldy 500+ song playlists and so they're a little more cohesive for casual listening. Right now my plan is to do both the decade-specific playlists and a big master playlist for all the best and worst tracks so far, but nothing's set in stone and most of you use Spotify a lot more than I do, so if anyone has thoughts on this I might reconsider.

South Loop Summer

Anyway that's about it, I really appreciate everyone who has taken the time to follow along and leave comments and support on this weird obsessive little journey of mine, I know it hasn't exactly set the world on fire or anything but even the half-dozen or so comments I got on every post for the 60s lists meant a lot. At the end of the day, I'm only really doing this for myself, but it's still super cool that there are other people who find this shit as interesting as I do. Let me know what you think about the update schedule and the playlists, and I hope you all have a really nice day :)))))
6Regency Lounge
Spellbound and Restless

Oh actually one last thing! Have you heard the news? If not, the news is: a shameless plug for the album I released back in January! Listen to it if you like drone-y ambient stuff that sounds nothing like anything I cover for PGTY, and feel free to rate it with the customary "It's not really my thing but I don't want to seem like a dick" 3.5 rating on sputnik music dot com!

okay that's all byeeee
