The 15 Greatest Female Voices of All Time

These are my personal favorites. The only criteria i had was that they had to be great live. For example, I love Kate Bush but in her prime almost all the live performances i could find were lipsync. That's why she didn't make it.
1Sarah Vaughan
Sarah Vaughan

When I think of what a perfect voice would sound like, I think of Sarah Vaughan. Well, her and Ella. I feel very comfortable putting her at the #1 spot. They don't make them like that anymore:

2Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong
Ella and Louis

The First Lady of Song:

3Joni Mitchell
Hejira

The first time I heard her I fell in love with her voice and the way her words just flow over the music:

4Sade
Promise

Just so buttery smooth. Saw her live personally and it was one of the best concerts I have ever been to:

5Eva Cassidy
Songbird

Seriously, check her out if you have never heard of her:

6Lhasa de Sela
Lhasa

Died way too young. One of the best discoveries I made last year:

7Neko Case
Fox Confessor Brings The Flood

Very unique and hits just the right spot for me:

8Aretha Franklin
Aretha Live at Fillmore West

A no-brainer, really:

9Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa
Don't Explain

The greatest modern rock singer:

10Billie Holiday
Lady Sings The Blues

Cigarettes and Alcohol can work wonders sometimes:

11Janis Joplin
I Got Dem Ol' Kozmic Blues Again Mama!

If Billie Holiday was a Hippie, you would get Janis:

12Beth Gibbons and Rustin Man
Out Of Season

Soul and Passion combined with lots of cigarettes. What's not to love:

13Bjork
Vespertine

Quirky and playful + that accent. You either love it or hate it:

14Nina Simone
Pastel Blues

When I hear Ninas voice I think of black coffee and the Earth. One of the most unique voices ever:

15Sandy Denny
The North Star Grassman and the Ravens

Her voice was just made for folk music:
