8-18
The albums that made me who I am as a music fan. |
1 | | The Beatles 1962 - 1966
My first brush with 'grown-up music', and my first favourite band. |
2 | | The Beatles Abbey Road
The first non-kiddy vinyl in our household that was 'actually mine'. |
3 | | The Beatles Anthology 1
Still one of the best Christmas presents I ever received. I later got the other two, and loved them just as much, so really this entry encompasses all three. |
4 | | Nirvana Nevermind
The album that got me into rock. Thanks, Mum! |
5 | | AC/DC '74 Jailbreak
The album that started a 25-year-strong fandom. Thanks, Mum – part 2. |
6 | | Inner Circle Reggae Dancer
It wasn't all rock in my early years.
NANANA NANANA NANA
NANANA NANANA NANA
TALK ABOUT YOU AND A-ME, YEAH
AND THE GAMES PEOPLE PLAY! |
7 | | Wire Manscape
Mum's first attempt at getting me into weird indie music at around age 10. Not very successful. |
8 | | Van Halen Balance
This one, however, WAS successful, mainly because of one song.
BIG!
FAT!
MONEEEEEHHH! |
9 | | Bon Jovi Crossroad
Had this on cassette tape, 'cause I'm old.
YOUR LOOOOOVE
IS LIKE BAAAAAD
MEDICIIIINE! |
10 | | Firehouse Firehouse
Recommended to an old aunt of mine by a sales assistant as something a mid-90s preteen boy might like. The sales assistant was right. |
11 | | Hanson Middle of Nowhere
I was actually stoked to get this as a present on my 12th birthday - for one very obvious reason.
MMMBOP
BAP BA DOO BOP
DOO EE AP BAPBA DOO BOP
BAP BA DOO! |
12 | | Prodigy The Fat of the Land
Once again, I have my Mum to thank for putting this in my hand when I was hesitating between buying the Spice Girls or Backstreet Boys. |
13 | | Everclear So Much For The Afterglow
I quite liked this for a time when I was about 12-13. |
14 | | AC/DC Highway To Hell
My favourite of the three-album selection for AC/DC at the language school library. |
15 | | AC/DC Back In Black
Though I loaned this one out fairly often too. |
16 | | Iron Maiden Piece of Mind
My favourite of the three-album selection for Iron Maiden at the language school library. |
17 | | Iron Maiden The Number of the Beast
Though I loaned this one out fairly often too. |
18 | | Black Sabbath Master of Reality
My favourite of the available album selection for Black Sabbath at the language school library. |
19 | | The Clash London Calling
My favourite of the available album selection for The Clash at the language school library, and still one of the most consensual albums in our household. |
20 | | Nirvana Bleach
One of the few albums that were still audible over the noise of the engine on our old Army-style 4X4. The soundtrack to many a car trip, as one side of a cassette tape with the previous entry on the other side. |
21 | | The Offspring Americana
'Album you had to have to even start a conversation about music with another kid when I was in 8th grade' – Part 1. |
22 | | Green Day Dookie
'Album you had to have to even start a conversation about music with another kid when I was in 8th grade' – Part 2. |
23 | | Limp Bizkit Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water
This album was EVERYTHING in 9th grade. |
24 | | Eminem The Marshall Mathers LP
So was this one. |
25 | | Slipknot Slipknot
Mum comes home from work one evening, puts this in my hand and says 'I listened to the first song and it sounds like your kind of thing.' It was more than 'my kind of thing' – it blew my mind in a way no album since 'Nevermind' had managed to, and introduced me to a new favourite band. |
26 | | Metallica Metallica
I liked this so much, I kept my friend's CD-R. |
27 | | Methods of Mayhem Methods of Mayhem
I unironically liked this album when I was 15. Yes, I know. |
28 | | Papa Roach Infest
See above. I had lousy taste in music in my mid-teens. |
29 | | Helloween Keeper of the Seven Keys Part II
I tried to get a girl into metal by showing her this album. She claimed to have loved it, but never asked for another album. Then a couple of years later, she turned into a fake goth >_ |
30 | | Linkin Park Hybrid Theory
Album of the Year according to myself at age 16. |
31 | | Linkin Park Meteora
A girl made me a CD-R copy of this because she knew I would want it. Unprompted. She even made me a nice cover with the tracklist and a little 'hope you like it' blurb. I still kept her in the friend zone, because I was a blinkered idiot when I was in my teens. |
32 | | Ramones Brain Drain
My entry point into another of my favourite bands. Also one of the first albums I ever reviewed on MXTabs, and the only one that survived the cross over to Sputnikmusic. |
33 | | Roxette Don't Bore Us, Get To The Chorus!
Another early entry into my review list here on Sputnik - and one of my favourite albums at around age 11.
NANANANA
SHE'S GOT THE LOOK! |
34 | | Anthrax Spreading the Disease
Still my favourite Anthrax album. |
