Sowing's Week 4 Picks
9-6 last week, 32-15 on the season. Onward and upward. List is digs.
Broncos 16, Jets 12 - The battle of the winless. I have no faith in Adam Gase and am still shocked he remains employed as a head coach, to the point that I'm willing to bet on the banged-up Broncos over them. Denver at least played Pittsburgh and Tennessee close when healthy, and didn't look totally lost against Brady's Bucs. I like them here even on the road, on a short week, traveling to the east coast, as an 0-3 squad searching for their first victory. That's how bad the Jets are.
Cardinals 26, Panthers 20 - The Cardinals hit a bump in the road versus Detroit last week. To avoid the same from happening here, Kyler Murray will need to limit those turnovers. I do like Arizona to bounce back though, even against a Panthers squad that notched their first win minus their star runningback last week. The Cardinals simply have too much offensive firepower for Carolina to match them score for score sans McCaffrey. Cardinals roll one win closer to a break out season.
Bears 27, Colts 23 - There's no magic quite like Foles in the underdog role. We witnessed it in Philadelphia, and now we're seeing it in Chicago. The Bears' defense has looked legit frightening at times this year, but they've been inconsistent. If they can pressure Rivers into a turnover or two - and I think they will - then it will be enough to get them to 4-0. Who woulda thought?
Bengals 24, Jaguars 21 - Joe Burrow has been outstanding, simply put. When you consider the lack of talent around him and what he's been able to do to keep the Bengals in games, it's clear why he was the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. This is the week he gets his first victory against a talentless Jacksonville squad that will pound high-effort RB James Robinson and hope for Minshew/mustache-magic to bail them out. Bengals win a close game on a late field goal that Bullock actually makes this time.

Cowboys 31, Browns 24 - Oh man, can you imagine if the Cowboys lose this game? Not only would they be nearing the cellar of the NFC East (let's be honest though, the whole division is a cellar), but Cleveland would be 3-1! Aside from the fact that Dallas should easily win this game on paper, I simply don't believe that the divine forces at work in the universe will allow good things to happen to Cleveland. The 'Boys win a game that is slightly closer than it should be and get back on track at .500, where they can set up their inevitable path to an 8-8 division title.
When I Die, Will I Get Better?
Saints 28, Lions 24 - The Saints have now dropped two straight including an upset loss to the Raiders, so questioning their championship window is perfectly valid at this point. The Lions just pulled off a minor upset by defeating an ascending Arizona squad, and now both DET and NO sit at 1-2. Regardless, the Saints are more talented offensively and should be able to muscle ahead on the scoreboard by enough to squeak out a W, especially if Michael Thomas is able to return to the lineup. Game will be closer than expected.
Finds You Well
Vikings 31, Texans 29 - Neither of these teams were expected to start 0-3, although the Texans at least can point to a horrid opening schedule that included KC, BAL, and PIT. I expect a high scoring, defensively challenged tilt here, with Dalvin Cook giving the Vikings a late go-ahead touchdown for the win.

All Thoughts Fly
Seahawks 36, Dolphins 17 - Russell Wilson deserves to have an MVP to his name at some point, and it may very well happen this year. Of all the teams that might be equipped to slow him down, Miami is not one of them. Seattle will continue their full-speed-ahead charge here.
Deep Dark South
Buccaneers 28, Chargers 21 - Tampa Tom hasn't looked invincible, but he's stamped a winning mentality on the franchise that hasn't been present in a long time. LA's pass rush will provide one of his biggest tests yet, but the Bucs should be able to prevail against a Chargers team that has been very inconsistent and fields a rookie QB.

Steelers vs.Titans POSTPONED INDEFINITELY DUE TO COVID
No Good Left To Give
Ravens 34, Football Team 10 - It's not that Washington hasn't performed decently, because I think they've already exceeded expectations with their 1-2 start and disciplined play. However, this Baltimore team is a juggernaut that they can't overcome simply through ball-control offense and an above average defense. Lamar Jackson takes out his frustrations from last week's loss to KC here, and it won't be pretty for Washington.
Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was
Rams 38, Giants 17 - The Rams seem to be back in their 2018 form, scoring at-will in a variety of ways within McVay's creative playbook. The injury-plagued Giants can only hope to stay competitive, but this game will more likely than not get away from them before halftime even hits.
The Golden Days are Hard
Chiefs 35, Patriots 27 - You can never count out a Belichick-coached team, but the same thing applies to a team quarterbacked by Patrick Mahomes. The Patriots will likely employ a ground-and-pound approach to try to keep Mahomes off the field, and it might even work for a lot of the game. But Mahomes will find a way to put up scores in bunches - as he tends to in the 2nd and 4th quarters especially - to pull ahead when it matters the most.
Bills 30, Raiders 26 - You have no idea how tempting it is to go with the LV upset here, especially considering how leaky Buffalo's defense has been and how potent Las Vegas' offense has become. This game will be much closer than many expect and could easily tilt in favor of either team. At the end of the day, I trust Josh Allen to make a play more than I do Derek Carr - and that'll be the difference.
Eagles 23, 49ers 20 - Call it an upset, call it misplaced trust, but Philadelphia is better than their 0-2-1 record and the 49ers - decimated by injuries at QB and RB - are worse than their 2-1 record. Something's gotta give. I'll take Philly in a blind faith upset. Wentz leads the Eagles down the field for a game winning FG in a very ugly, almost unwatchable game.
Packers 41, Falcons 30 - You want offense, y'say? Well you came to the right place! The Falcons will do something absurd like go up 27-7 and then give up 34 4th quarter points, because that's what they do. With that said, Atlanta "should" be either 2-1 or 3-0, so the (3-0) vs (0-3) matchup is a tad misleading. This thing could go back and forth. Green Bay looks invincible at the moment though, and Atlanta is facing serious morale issues and doubt in their coaching, so give me the Packers to go 4-0 and get Dan Quinn fired by Tuesday morning.
Picks arriving on the late side, but it's been a hectic week. Here are my musings for Week 4.
Got fucking damnit they just rescheduled Steelers/Titans to later in the season. Gotta love week 4 byes.
Yeah that's breaking news lol, happened while I was typing this. I'll update the post.
Looks like both teams originally had week 7 byes so it looks like it won't completely screw up the season at least. NFL got really lucky here.
To be fair, the MLB had a number of issues and still made it to postseason play. Hiccups in scheduling are expected and I foresee more to come, but I don't think it will kill the season.
I don't consider my week complete until I read Sowings predictions. However, there's no way you can convince me the Eagles and Vikings are winning their respective games.
They were both tough games to predict but when in doubt I go with my gut lol
Browns winning would be fcking amazing
"To be fair, the MLB had a number of issues and still made it to postseason play. Hiccups in scheduling are expected and I foresee more to come, but I don't think it will kill the season."
It's way way easier to reschedule baseball games tho, especially with the ability to do double headers.
If the Steelers had a Week 5 bye and the Titans had a Week 12 bye, I don't think the game gets played at all. The NFL was beyond stupid to not throw in one or two extra bye weeks for when this inevitably happened.
Tbh the more I think about it... the Steelers got seriously fucked here. Been practicing all week, on what is now their bye week, while the Titans can just wait til week 8 or whatever so they can be completely healthy.
Game should've taken place Monday or Tuesday, with all the Titans' positive players ruled out. Isn't this why they expanded rosters and practice squads this season? For situations like this? Only like 10 people tested positive not like the entire team got it.
The problem is that additional players tested positive today. So now they have to keep an eye on whether or not it will continue to spread within the organization or not. Additional days of testing affords them the ability to give the *all clear*, whereas if they play Pittsburgh on Monday or Tuesday, then they have to worry about the entire Steelers organization, and whoever they subsequently play, and so on.
Eagles vs 49ers is Injury Bowl 2020
jets should extend adam gase so my team can have a slightly better odds of making the playoffs next year.
How has gregg williams not been banned from the league?
How is Gregg Williams not in prison?
Who's your team, Biggle?
- Indy is actually a 3 point favorite in that game. Hard to believe.
- I don’t buy the Falcons record is deceiving. They have the second worst defense in the league and are one of the most penalized teams in the league. They not good. Falcons catch a break however. They are down their top 3 corners but the packers are down their top 3 receivers. Which team makes better street pick ups wins.
- Agree with the Minnesota pick. Houston has the worst run defense in the league and the Vikings are top 5 in rushing.
How bout those fuckin browns
They surprised the hell out of me. I have no faith in the Cowboys' defense, so I expected it to be a 7-10 point game, but I really didn't think Cleveland would get to 3-1.
In other news, I'm 10-3 heading into these night games so woot woot.
Including calling that Eagles upset within 2 points.
We are all Browns fans on this blessed day
no we are most certainly not
is it me or did the Eagles seem to for the most part, get progressively better as the game went on (minus the final defensive drive)?
