Dream pop binge vol. 2

A continuation of the first dream pop binge which couldn't fit any more recs. The goal is to finish the original list before I get on to this one, but I can't promise I'll stick to that because of who I am as a person. Rec me some more pastel dream music sputnik, there is plenty of space left

A nice first EP with a couple great tracks, but that shows that she isn't quite sure of her direction yet. I'll check what comes next. Btw I jammed this before making the list so it doesn't count as starting this binge before finishing the first one :]

I guess this should be included. This is a single album discog at this point so cf my soundoff, but in a nutshell I found this bland and flavourless, albeit never properly bad or annoying.

A lovely discog that is more ambient folk than it is dream pop, but that is quality all the way through. Her first two albums showed a lot of potential but were a bit too erratic, symptomatic of an artist in search of a direction, and as a result the records lacked coherence somewhat. This is resolved in Unearth which has a solid direction that it sticks to and provides a strong offering in. Will she keep this happy Sea Oleena (although less stunning vibe) in the future records? Whether she does or not, I think she has a bright future and I'll follow her output.

I way prefer this to Candy Claws, and it feels like the Sound of Ceres catalogue is rather underrated. This is very dreamy and not too poppy, like a much cleaner, softer and mellower version of Candy Claws and their psychedelic haze. Even if The Twin is a bit weaker than the debut it's still a definitely fun listen. If anything the two album closing tracks are dope and well worth a check if you like that kind of aesthetic.

This is a very electronic and pop-leaning offering of dream pop - no traces of shoegaze at all here -, but boy is it sweet - catchy here, dreamy there. I'm surprised I liked this as much as I did.

Realised these guys weren't in the dream pop list. Random bandcamp find. It's okay and I might check out their future output, but as it is they're not quite a band I'd recommend yet.

starlesscore's rec

I'm not sure that I see more than very far remote dream pop influences on this when it comes to qualifying for this list. This is ambient mixed with drone bits, cute j vocals, synth work, folk elements, radio samples, and a bunch of other things. Quite diverse and unique, but I think every single record suffers from the same thing: the individual tracks are good, but album construction seems nonexistent. There are very few transitions and limited cohesiveness between tracks, and for ambient-oriented music like this, that hurts a lot. I'm a bit disappointed because this looked really good with the tags and Will Long on the bill, but yeah it ended up not really feeling transcendental. Will give the LP another chance though.
