Best Deathcore of 2019

2019 has quite possibly been the best year for deathcore, with many of the genre’s heavyweights releasing crushing albums. This list is opinionated, also, the list only includes albums I have heard. So, Thy Art is Murder, and Spite will not be included because I’ve not heard them. Not because they aren’t good albums.
13A Wake in Providence
The Blvck Sun || The Blood Moon

Someone tell these guys it isn’t 2007 anymore. The same boring two-string breakdowns are overused in every song, sometimes twice per song. Vocals aren’t brutal enough either.
12ingested
Call of the Void

Give them credit for being ambitious and confident enough to release this EP within one year of their recent LP, but the songs pale in comparison to anything else they’ve made. Basically, four boring songs that lack gutturals, breakdowns, and slams. Overall a completely unnecessary release from a deathcore titan.
11Carnifex
World War X

Lacks the brutality, black metal influence, and symphonic elements heard on Slow Death. Sounds like the band took a step back rather than forward.
10Enterprise Earth
Luciferous

Another band who didn’t live up to their previous album. “Luciferous” is a good album, it has good songwriting, good vocals (as is always the case with Dan), and discernibility between songs. Personally however it lacks elements of deathcore that appeal to me.
9Beyond Deviation
Dark Passenger

Beyond deviation has always been mainly a filthy vocal demonstration, so as per typical, the instrumental aspect was sub-par, and the vocals are a massive downgrade from Guillaume Villeneuve.
8Mental Cruelty
Inferis

Well produced, decent vocals, and everything else is just that, decent at best.
7 Gamma Sector
Sanctum of Vivisection

Sounds like it was produced by a fourth-grader inside a trash compactor. Has some good bangers and breakdowns but the atrocious production prevents any enjoyment. Daniel Burris is an animal though, his pig squeals are insane.
6Vulvodynia
Mob Justice

These guys broke through with “Psychosadistic Design” in 2016 which garnered over 500K views on Youtube. But “Mob Justice” lacked the brutality of the aforementioned and the technicality of their earlier work. This record just sounds rushed albeit has some bangers, namely the title track. The biggest highlight is Duncan Bentley has improved his vocals and solidified himself among deathcore’s elite.
5Distant
Tyrannotophia

Deathcore’s most pleasant surprise of 2019. Distant’s debut is no softy, it’s one of the most brutal on the list. Everything from the breakdowns to the songwriting is fantastic. The album also features good riffage and diversity of sound.
4Angelmaker
AngelMaker

Incorporates some pretty experimental elements like Spanish guitar intro & outro which was pretty interesting, some pretty awesome solos and melodic segments. The fact that everyone wants to do vocals is a little annoying not gonna lie but the benefit is that it gives the album a fair amount of vocal diversity. With their self titled, Angelmaker strengthen their already brilliant sound.
3Signs Of The Swarm
Vital Deprivation

Vital deprivation is a chugfest, as is all of Signs of the Swarms discography. But that’s why I love them so much. “Vital Deprivation” is filthy gutturals and constant breakdowns from start to finish. What more could you want in a deathcore album? For people who aren’t sold on the new vocalist, consider that he’s primarily doing gutturals because it was CJ’s frequent gutturals that defined Signs of the Swarm’s sound. He’s giving the fans what they want.
2Shadow Of Intent
Melancholy

Probably the most well-written, and well-made album on the list, “Melancholy” includes elements of black metal, melodic death metal, and symphonic elements. Everyone involved played their part masterfully. From Barone’s drumming, to Wisemans extreme skill and precision and clean vocals to Bens ever-so disguising and beastly vocals. I never listen to music with clean vocals, yet those on “Melancholy” weren’t only tolerable, but enjoyable.
1Infant Annihilator
The Battle of Yaldabaoth

Anyone surprised? This is the one we’ve all been waiting for. It has everything, immaculate instrumentals, dirtiest vocalist on earth, great features, discernibility/memorability of songs, insane technicality, and badass lyrics & themes. “The Battle of Yaldabaoth” is the heaviest album of 2019. I still cannot comprehend the massiveness of “The Kingdom Siteth Lonely Beneath Thine Hollowed Heavens”.
