| Best Deathcore of 2019
2019 has quite possibly been the best year for deathcore, with many of the genre’s heavyweights releasing crushing albums. This list is opinionated, also, the list only includes albums I have heard. So, Thy Art is Murder, and Spite will not be included because I’ve not heard them. Not because they aren’t good albums. | 13 | | A Wake in Providence The Blvck Sun || The Blood Moon
Someone tell these guys it isn’t 2007 anymore. The same boring two-string breakdowns are overused in every song, sometimes twice per song. Vocals aren’t brutal enough either. | 12 | | ingested Call of the Void
Give them credit for being ambitious and confident enough to release this EP within one year of their recent LP, but the songs pale in comparison to anything else they’ve made. Basically, four boring songs that lack gutturals, breakdowns, and slams. Overall a completely unnecessary release from a deathcore titan. | 11 | | Carnifex World War X
Lacks the brutality, black metal influence, and symphonic elements heard on Slow Death. Sounds like the band took a step back rather than forward. | 10 | | Enterprise Earth Luciferous
Another band who didn’t live up to their previous album. “Luciferous” is a good album, it has good songwriting, good vocals (as is always the case with Dan), and discernibility between songs. Personally however it lacks elements of deathcore that appeal to me. | 9 | | Beyond Deviation Dark Passenger
Beyond deviation has always been mainly a filthy vocal demonstration, so as per typical, the instrumental aspect was sub-par, and the vocals are a massive downgrade from Guillaume Villeneuve. | 8 | | Mental Cruelty Inferis
Well produced, decent vocals, and everything else is just that, decent at best. | 7 | | Gamma Sector Sanctum of Vivisection
Sounds like it was produced by a fourth-grader inside a trash compactor. Has some good bangers and breakdowns but the atrocious production prevents any enjoyment. Daniel Burris is an animal though, his pig squeals are insane. | 6 | | Vulvodynia Mob Justice
These guys broke through with “Psychosadistic Design” in 2016 which garnered over 500K views on Youtube. But “Mob Justice” lacked the brutality of the aforementioned and the technicality of their earlier work. This record just sounds rushed albeit has some bangers, namely the title track. The biggest highlight is Duncan Bentley has improved his vocals and solidified himself among deathcore’s elite. | 5 | | Distant Tyrannotophia
Deathcore’s most pleasant surprise of 2019. Distant’s debut is no softy, it’s one of the most brutal on the list. Everything from the breakdowns to the songwriting is fantastic. The album also features good riffage and diversity of sound. | 4 | | Angelmaker AngelMaker
Incorporates some pretty experimental elements like Spanish guitar intro & outro which was pretty interesting, some pretty awesome solos and melodic segments. The fact that everyone wants to do vocals is a little annoying not gonna lie but the benefit is that it gives the album a fair amount of vocal diversity. With their self titled, Angelmaker strengthen their already brilliant sound. | 3 | | Signs Of The Swarm Vital Deprivation
Vital deprivation is a chugfest, as is all of Signs of the Swarms discography. But that’s why I love them so much. “Vital Deprivation” is filthy gutturals and constant breakdowns from start to finish. What more could you want in a deathcore album? For people who aren’t sold on the new vocalist, consider that he’s primarily doing gutturals because it was CJ’s frequent gutturals that defined Signs of the Swarm’s sound. He’s giving the fans what they want. | 2 | | Shadow Of Intent Melancholy
Probably the most well-written, and well-made album on the list, “Melancholy” includes elements of black metal, melodic death metal, and symphonic elements. Everyone involved played their part masterfully. From Barone’s drumming, to Wisemans extreme skill and precision and clean vocals to Bens ever-so disguising and beastly vocals. I never listen to music with clean vocals, yet those on “Melancholy” weren’t only tolerable, but enjoyable. | 1 | | Infant Annihilator The Battle of Yaldabaoth
Anyone surprised? This is the one we’ve all been waiting for. It has everything, immaculate instrumentals, dirtiest vocalist on earth, great features, discernibility/memorability of songs, insane technicality, and badass lyrics & themes. “The Battle of Yaldabaoth” is the heaviest album of 2019. I still cannot comprehend the massiveness of “The Kingdom Siteth Lonely Beneath Thine Hollowed Heavens”. | |

10.12.19 | Been a while since I've made a list. Been busy with school, work, and some other hobbies. Had a "Drudkh ranked" list on que for a few months? Hoping to finish it soon. | Get Low
10.12.19 | Haven't really given a fuck about deathcore since the turn of the decade but 4 fuckin' slaps. | Arditi
10.12.19 | Oh buddy trust me deathcore has come a long way since the 2000's & yeah #4 is a beaut. Good Ol' Canadian band. | peekatoad
10.13.19 | Great list | Deathconscious
10.13.19 | "Anyone surprised?"
yeah. band sucks. 10 and 2 are pretty great though, and im looking forward to hearing 3. | Arditi
10.14.19 | Point being that it was poised to be the biggest, most hyped deathcore release of the year whether or not it was good. | Intothepit
10.14.19 | That doesn't make any sense. | Get Low
10.14.19 | Need to try to get back into this genre tbh | GhostB1rd
10.14.19 | Genre is really miss miss miss miss hit miss miss miss miss miss miss miss miss | Get Low
10.14.19 | exoplanet is the hit | TheMightyScoop
10.14.19 | “The Battle of Yaldabaoth is the heaviest album of 2019"
cult of luna begs to differ | GhostB1rd
10.14.19 | The hit is the cowbell in Wage Slave. | Get Low
10.14.19 | Okay that's not fair | Arditi
10.15.19 | @TheMightyScoop yeah maybe, I was thinking Devourments album might have a say too. But the BOY is extreme in its own right. | Uzumaki
10.15.19 | Haven’t gotten around to Brand Of Sacrifice yet? | zaruyache
10.15.19 | no Fuming Mouth hmmm? old-school deathcore still counts! and it's the best of the year in that category. | combustion07
10.15.19 | Gonna jam the top 5. Haven't jammed any new deathcore since like 2012 but some brees and chugs don't sound too bad right about now. 4 sounds up my alley. Love bands where all of the members dish out some vocals | Arditi
10.15.19 | @Uzumaki. No, unfortunately, that's another one I have not heard. | Gnocchi
10.15.19 | question: why does a list labelled "best" have half of its entries (by the poster's opinion) either "decent" or another negatively geared descriptor? | Deathconscious
10.15.19 | because even the best of deathcore is still not top tier music, its a pretty shit genre over all. | Intothepit
10.15.19 | I mean, just look at his logic for putting Infant Annihilator at 1. | mrdogthrow
10.15.19 | 10 was dxc aoty for my but fuck 3 absolutely blew me away. Going to be a hard one | Gnocchi
10.15.19 | Okay, had a bit of a look over this list - rather than just questioning the content. I just wanted to say: thanks for the objectivity boost. | Deathconscious
10.15.19 | the new Fit for An Autopsy should probably be here. i havent heard it yet, but theyre one of the better deathcore bands out there. | Deathconscious
10.15.19 | so yeah, 3 is cool as expected.
"For people who aren’t sold on the new vocalist, consider that he’s primarily doing gutturals because it was CJ’s frequent gutturals that defined Signs of the Swarm’s sound."
why would people be disappointed because he's doing a lot of gutturals when thats already what they expect?...theyre disappointed because he's just not as good. i like him for sure, but CJ is a top-tier vocalist. | mrdogthrow
10.15.19 | I was honestly surprised at how well David fit in with the band. His style is basically identical to CJs, just a different tone. | mrdogthrow
10.15.19 | And I even would say David's is right on CJs level | Deathconscious
10.15.19 | what is with the drummer's terrible decision to use the tom instead of the snare at the beginning of Celestial Ascendance and at about 1:10 and also later on in The Blood? it sounds so bad.
or maybe he's just hitting the outer rim of the snare? either way, im not into it. | Arditi
10.16.19 | @Deathconscious. Agreed. From my experience, some people really don't like the new vocals for some reason. I love the new vocalist but is he better than CJ? Absolutely not. |
