|10 Favorite Modern Bands|
Some of the bands that I see having a huge and successful future that I can't get enough of
|10||Ice Nine Kills|
Offering a particularly good metalcore sound with what could seem as a gimmick with their
love for adapting horror movie/book material they treat it with a lot of care in blending the
fiction they adapt to their music. Interesting to see where they go from here
|9||Hail the Sun|
Hail the Sun's technical proficiency makes them one of the most engaging bands in the genre today
along with having very emotional lyrics. They have yet to release a bad album.
Silent Planet may not be the most inspired musically speaking. However their vocalist has an incredible way with words. Writing about deep and timely issues in an almost poetic fashion.
Movements has ignited the spark of emo music again, with post hardcore elements mixed in their material provides so much well thought out emotion and insight on their lead singers mental struggles. Along with having a sound that sounds unique to themselves.
|6||Shadow of Intent|
Breathing new life into an incredibly boring genre, SOI provide a level of muscianship that deathcore as a whole has lacked. Mixing in symphonic elements with heavy guttural growls works better than you may think. Guitars are technical, heavy and even tend to sneak in some melodic leads. Drumming also being a big highlight.
Code Orange has decided to take old splashes of metalcore and hardcore punk and decided to blend them together with weird electronic and industrial percussion. It's given me a lot of hope to see them experiment in such a tired genre to try and push it forward.
I had listened to some older tracks from Tomassi and never cared much for them until their last album. Which featured a massive progression in their sound. They strike me as a band that could take the flag that Dillinger Escape Plan left. Yet still leave their own unique stamp. Leading some hardcore and almsot black metal vocals to mix with math rock/hardcore guitars and drums and yet still also offer synth sections. Its a melting pot of styles that shouldn't mix but came together so perfectly I hope to see more of what they gave us last.
If there was one thing you could say about Obliviscaris it's consistency. Across their 3 albums they've developed a unique sound and stuck with it. Violins, acoustic guitars and heavy death metal. With some prog flavor all comes together so well. Having an incredible clean and heavy vocalist to boot they're at the top of their game.
|2||King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard|
King Gizzard is kinda insane, they've released 15 albums despite only being around since 2010 they've released a video game to hype their most recent album. They own their own label, released 5 albums in one year. And have stayed fresh and experimented in their own genre to an incredible amount. Playing psychedlic rock, thrash metal, blues rock, electronica, and jazz. It's remarkable all that they have done in such a short amount of time.
|1||Thank You Scientist|
Their first album came out of nowhere and set the stage for how well jazz and prog rock can blend together and since then they've only expanded on that idea. Making some of the most complicated yet incredibly fun music that's out right now. What may be their best characteristic is the fact that they aren't pretentious when they could be. They do not take themselves very seriously which only adds to their charm.
