My 5 Favorite Singers
Mikael Akerfeldt: Mikael Akerfeldt has some of the best death growls ever and one of the most beautiful clean voices ever. Heir Apparent has 100% growled vocals, and Mikael sounds great, while To Bid You Farewell has my favorite vocal performance he has ever done. Songs like Deliverance perfectly show the full potential of his voice. He also sounds great live.
Tim "Ripper" Owens: Ripper is one of the most underrated singers of all time. His voice is great. He has an insane vocal range. He also sounds great live. I don’t understand why he doesn’t get more love from metalheads. He’s a Metal Messiah in my eyes.
Master of Puppets
James Hetfield: James Hetfield is a legend. It’s amazing to see how much his voice has improved over the years. You can just hear his voice get better during Metallica's first five albums. He sounded a bit out of practice on St. Anger, but he didn’t sound horrible. He's 56 years old, and he still sounds great.
Matt Heafy: Like Hetfield, Matt Heafy has improved greatly over the years. On Trivium's first two albums, he didn’t sound horrible, but he clearly hadn’t matured as a vocalist. In every album since then, he has sounded great. He's also great at screaming, even though he blew his voice out 5 years ago from doing it wrong.
Brave New World
Bruce Dickinson: Do I even need to explain this one? If you’ve listened to Iron Maiden, you’ll know that Bruce is an amazing singer with an insane vocal range.
1 and 5 for sure
dude just added ripper instead of halford
wtf is this list
Shut the fuck up woodee you probably like 3/5s of this list if not more
I prefer Halford, but Ripper's range is admittedly better. Very underrated.
Were female singers excluded or what
"Were female singers excluded or what"
nope, dickinson is there
I haven’t listened to very many bands with female singers.
what about bands which don't play metal?
My favorite non-metal bands are Three Days Grace, Digital Daggers, and Starset.
Tim Owens is cool, but he couldn't fill Rob Halford's shoes with JP even if he tried. I do like Jugulator though.
I think Jugulator and Demolition are two of the most underrated albums ever, and are honestly up there with Nostradamus, Painkiller, Defenders of the Faith, Screaming For Vengeance, and Firepower for me.
