15 Years on Sput/MX

Thought I'd make a list on my 15th year day on MX. Wow, time flies doesn't it? Here is my current top 10 favorite songs of all time, ranked.
1Type O Negative
World Coming Down

Pyretta Blaze

THE best song of all time.
2The Cult
Sonic Temple

Fire Woman

I first bought this disc in 1995 and I listened to it religiously. This song is the epitome of genius and passion. This album is a masterpiece in itself but Fire Woman remains always in my top 5. I remember hearing it for the first time on the radio and I called the station and asked who it was, boy my life changed after that moment. Masterpiece.
3Testament
The Ritual

Return To Serenity

It's pretty strange how I discovered this song, actually. I was on a chat server called Pantera Chat and this girl on the server was named Serenity. I asked her if that was her real name (like an idiot), and she said "no, I got it from the song Return To Serenity by Testament". Instantly I was intrigued. I never heard The Ritual when it came out but I ordered the disc and went straight to that song. What a great memory!
4Down
NOLA

Stone The Crow

If it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have got into this like I did and oh boy, it was worth it. This song is a masterpiece in iteself, everything about it is pure gold. The vibe Down create here is lost in the process and with that, it makes a very unique song and something that means a lot to me at the same time. Thanks inflameswethrash bro, let the metal flow!
5Kyuss
Welcome to Sky Valley

Demon Cleaner

I think I have listened to this song about 1,000 times now, probably less, probably more, all I know is it never gets old and it is a true classic across all genres. Everything about this song is top tier and it is one of the most important songs ever written, to me.
6Acid Bath
When the Kite String Pops

Scream Of The Butterfly

I will never forget the first time I heard this. My best friend at the time, and my bassist, kept telling me to check this song out circa 1999. I didn't know much about Acid Bath at the time, but he got sick of me putting him off and forced me to listen to this one night while we were baked. One of tghe best moments of my life. We listened to it several times after, same night.
7Tool
Salival

Pushit (Live)

Oh man, this song should explain itself but a truly remarkable recording in a live setting. I tend to stay away from live songs when it comes to favorites, but this is a different kettle of fish here.
8Journey
Escape

Stone In Love

I had a small speaker circa 1993, the only thing I had to listen to music on, it was like a 6" krakomatic, it always sat horizontal on my dresser next to my radio. This song came on once and I decided to pour salt on the speaker to see it jump around while the sound came through. What a great moment! I will never forget this song as long as I live, easily best songs ever recorded and brings the memories hard every time I hear it. It's all about the intro, but the outro though...
9King Crimson
Starless and Bible Black

The Night Watch

Rembrandt. What a great topic. What band decided to record a song about a painting, bringing it to life? King Crimson, that's who. This is, and has always been and probably will be one of my all time favorite songs ever. I have listened to this a thousand times and still have no clue how they even recorded half of this song. It is a masterpiece.
10Jackson Browne
Late for the Sky

For A Dancer

This is a song about loss, about realization, about hope, about death. This song is so powerful I can't listen to it at certain times. It hits me like a ton of bricks. The line "in the end there is one dance you'll do alone" seals the deal. What a remarkable song and a great gem from Jackson Browne.
11Pink Floyd
The Wall

Mother

I love Pink Floyd. They were the first band I ever had an obsession with way back when I was a teenager. As the years pass, I tend to hold on to certain memories of songs by bands I once really liked. I still love Pink Floyd and seeing Wish You Were Here as a top album on this site makes me feel elated. I used to listen to that cassette so much it was blank at one point, literally looked like a Maxell blank. But back to Mother. This song is the highlight of the album here, to me. This song is a parable. Probably one of the best in the sense I have ever heard. I can't describe it anymore, when you get older you tend to relate to songs/things that were in front of your face the entire time but couldn't comprehend.
12The Black Crowes
Shake Your Money Maker

She Talks To Angels

One of my best friends growing up used to hang out with me all the time when we were teenagers. She was so smart, funny and full of life, very vibrant. We used to make forts out of the couch cushions and we had a blast just hanging around. I moved away and didn't see her again. Until 1997. She was a mess and had a hardcore addiction to Methamphetines. I barely recognized her. She overdosed and died in 2001. This song reminds me of her. I bit of a sad tale but I will always retain her image from when we were kids in my head and when I hear this song, it reminds me of her. She got sucked into it. Great song and that experience alone makes this a top song for me because of that.
13Alice in Chains
Jar of Flies

Rotten Apple

I can't explain how or why I like this so much, but it's always with me in my heart and I love the hell out of this song. There is nothing else quite like this. The epitome of sadness and reprisal in one song. Their finest achievement.
14Edge of Sanity
Crimson

Crimson

I was a little late to the game on this release but when I first checked it out, I was blown away. I love the production on this album as well as the call back riffs throughout. This is one magnificent album and it is beautiful in every aspect. Truly one of the best songs ever recorded. I just wish it was longer!
15Green Carnation
Light of Day, Day of Darkness

Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness

Okay so this song is over 1 hour long. The amount of work Tchort put into this is astounding. He had several musicians, worked on it for years and even a childrens choir. I think I read somewhere once over 700 different samples were used in recording this masterpiece. I ordered this disc and when it came, I got a few of my friends together to listen to it in 2002. It was a great experience. This song was inspired by the death of Tchort's Daughter and the birth of his Son, hence Light of Day (Son's birth) and Day Of Darkness (Daughter's death). Even though this song is over an hour long, I have listened to it probably over 500 times. maybe more. A groundbreaking album and nothing in the genre can come close to this epic tale and production.
