dmathias52 06.01.19	Noradrenaline - Tricot: 3.2 Super clearly fit the theme, but almost too well. Lots of super interesting things that they touched on, but I feel like none of them were expanded on enough. I really enjoyed all of the individual parts, but it didn't come together super cohesively for me.
SlothcoreSam 06.02.19	1. Noradrenaline. 4.2 Bass line is groovy, mathy guitars are not overpowering or show-offy like some US bands. Drumming adds urgency and agst to the chorus. Vocals are good too. All round banger of a tune. Good start to the month.
ArsMoriendi 06.02.19	"Noradrenaline" Well, this is upbeat and the bass is nice enough. No complaints, this is good, but far from amazing. 3.6/5 "In Maidjan" Tribal growling? This is actually super unique. A bit repetitive though. I feel like I'd like this more if it were like 4 minutes. 12 is a bit much for this little to be going on. 3.2/5

garas 06.02.19	Noradrenaline - this was kinda good, but wasn't so extra for me. 2.6 In Maidjan - I'm from Hungary. The love for our history is very strong here, and the rediscovery our pagan past is very popular these days. I've heard lots of great noname bands playing such ancient, tribal, shamanism-based music - and next to those, this is awful. 1.9

ArsMoriendi 06.03.19	"Gemini" His voice is gross. The guitar is decent though and the drums are fine. Ugh, that screaming. It's like whiny hard rock emo idk. Not my thing. This isn't zany or slow hmmm. 2.3/5
dmathias52 06.03.19	"Gemini" - 3.6 Admittedly, I'm biased since I just saw these guys put on an amazing live show with mewithoutYou a couple weeks ago. That being said, I still love the vocal performance and the culmination of this song.
JohnnyoftheWell 06.03.19	In Maidjan - 3.0 Similar feelings to Ars on this; I found it engaging up to a point and definitely enjoyed it more than I expected, but it overstayed its welcome Gemini - 2.9 I only know Cursive from Vitriola, and this is definitely a lot more bubbly. Full points for nominal and stylistic adherence to the theme, but I wasn't exactly swept away by this. The lurching prog-esque rhythms don't suit the band so well imo.

Watch the entire show, it's quite trance-inducing. Garas, hit us with superior examples of shamanism. 5/5 Gemini - +0.5 for song length. This is just kinda weird. 3/5 Ugly - Damn, 1 second away from a +0.5 for song length. I was mostly bored 2.5/5

Like there's a "Castle Festival" in Gyula, where I've heard many good ones, but those are just "traditionalist activists" or so - so no big stage or possibilty to get their music on CD... If I can find a good one online, I'll let you know.

SlothcoreSam 06.08.19	Ugly- 2.2. Not feeling this at all. Elevator music in a newly built high rise apartment in a gentrified district. Radio Cure- 2.6. Nup, can't get into this either. Outro- 2.7. Repetitive, but OK. Needs visual effects, or use it as a soundtrack to a movie. When we first met- 3.1 Finally a song. This one reminds me of an advertisement. Has that catchy pop jingle that works for summer ads, dancing around in bright bikinis, with big smiles and water splashing.

Papa Universe 06.09.19	Cursive - Gemini: it ain't Cursive, if it don't slam my ears like a powerdrill. 3 Organ Tapes - Ugly: for once we have a sach rec that isn't godawful, just a little boring. 2.5 Wilco - Radio Cure: this really walks the razorthin line between melancholic music and Phil Elverum-like lack of music altogether. it really ony picks up in the last quarter. 3 Keys of Orthanc - Outro: I think this is dungeon synth. is this dungeon synth? if it is, then it is way too uneventful to be the dungeon synth type that I like. 2.5 Hellogoodybe - When We First Met: it's cute, too bad I'm not a 12 year old girl. 2 Holy Fuck - Stilettos: I have to say, it's a bit of a waste of band name. 3.5 Pixies - Manta Ray: aren't I a dick lately, but then again, I don't really like Pixies. they strike as a likeable band, but their stuff, as exemplified by this song, is too non-descript and repetitive. 2.5

ArsMoriendi 06.09.19	"Outro" So far this sounds like creepy Dracula music. The organ is okay and that's viola, isn't it? Too high to be a cello, unless only the A string is being played. Low violin maybe? Wait, is this going to go anywhere? Man, this is an outro alright. 2.6/5 "When We First Met" Ukulele pop? Ugh. Yup, this is generic TV commercial pop rock that even Grandma can enjoy. This song is so short, but it feels endless. 2.4/5 "Stilettos" Cool percussion so far. Oh shit, the percussion just got even better. Finally something interesting. It's so jittery, I feel like exercising to this one. It keeps layering on new ideas too. I legitimately like this. 4.3/5 "Manta Ray" You know me, I love Pixies. They're so playful, creative, noisy, and fun. This isn't one of their best songs though. The bass rules and the subject is adorable. Manta Rays haha! Kim's backups make it feel like it belongs on a pre-school cartoon, but in a good way if that makes any sense. 3.9/5

I've still got issues with hearing Japanese and not seeing anime/weird tv shows in my mind's eye all the time. 2.6 In Maidjan: Cooler than I thought it would be. Very long though, and I don't see myself listening to this a lot if I don't have to. 2.8 Gemini: Totally yucky vox. Plus those synths. Eew. 2.0 Ugly: Hmm, how is this a sach-rec!? Ok, those vocals are a clear indication, but the actual music is kind of ok. 2.3 Radio Cure: I've hear so much about Wilco being amazing/perfect/one of the best and most consistent bands around, but never checked them for some reason. Music is cool, vox don't do a lot for me as of yet. Who knows, that might improve one day. For now, this is a solid 3.2 Outro: Not my genre at all, sorry garas, although all that bm has heightened my tolerance for this kind of music significantly. 2.2 When We First Met: Hahahahaa those lyrics. What is this? I mean, it's also clearly energetic like crazy! And happy and cute. But also a 2.6 Manta Ray: Delish bass, fun track, gets the blood pumping. Love it. Not so much the vocals on some moments (AGAIN! Am I too picky with vox or something?) 3.3 Moon: Y E S! Now we're talking. This thing ruuules. Very nice spacy vibes. I could do with a little less sax on this, it doesn't need it, Also the beginning is better than when it tries to blow up into something else, but it's still a solid 4.0 On my to-listen-to-list for sure!

Still not a fan of that vox or the drum tones 2.7 Radio Cure - Similar to Trif, feel like I should have checked Wilco ages ago. This was...slightly underwhelming but there's something to it. Not entirely sure if it's clicking - part of me wants to throw it in with the Deerhunter/Women echelon of indie I don't care for, but that chorus still has me intrigued. Going to have to do some digging here. 3.3/5 Outro - Not convinced that this needed to be nearly as long as it is, but it did give me rare flashbacks to when I was way more into this vibe, so for that it can have a 3.3 When We First Met - 10/10 gemini points right here: ditzy sounds, superficial haircuts, deep feelings. This is silly and cute and more than my critical sensibilities care to handle so fuck it, 3.6 Stilettos - BASSLINE yes please! Really ride, enjoyed this a lot. Sounds like a high-octane version of a Supercar's Futurama, which I've been digging big time lately 3.8 Manta Ray - Oh hai there Pixies! Very much business as usual here, but it's as fun as ever 3.5

Not a fan of those vocals though. 2.6 Stilettos - Proper manic music. Gets the blood pumping, as a wise man once said. 3.3/5 Moon - Was ok until the sax. I have a sax-related neurosis. SlothcoreSam 06.13.19	2. In Maidja. 3.5. I missed this one, woops. Feels like I'm watching the pagan viking version of The Arcade Fire. It's awesome, and would be a great live experience. As a stand alone song, it is a bit long. 8. Stillettos, 3.5, nice speedy jam, don't know in what context I'd listen to this again. 9. Manta Ray, 3.0, never could get into the Pixies, i find the vocalist arrogant in a bad way. Apart from that (vocalist showing off) the song is pretty good.

Trifolium 06.13.19	I know what you mean Egarran. I've never ever rec'd some of my all time faves (like How To Measure A Planet from The Gathering) to some of my friends because of this. Totally relatable. Plus there's something very nice in keeping a special band to yourself.

And it fits the theme very well. 3.6 Upwey, Tecoma, Belgrave: Not too much into this kind of banjoing etc. Maybe would have loved it when in the pub with my fellow 16yo skater friends way back then. Oooh no, especially that angsty teen explosion at the end. 2.2 My Impure Hair: Some interesting things happening here. Love the detailed and layered backdrop of alien sounds. Like you're in a canyon with some extraterrestrials. A little uneventful too. 3.0 Good Times: Happy, carefree, relaxing. Nice opposite to the dungeon synth. Short but sweet. 3.0 Ars Moriendi: Totally weird. Unlistenable too in a way. This is what I always imagine will happen when you wear a bluetooth headphone and walk through a busy city, picking up what others are listening to when you pass them. And there just happen to be many gypsies out and about using bluetooth headphones for some strange reason. 2.8

'My Impure Hair' & 'Perfect Darkness' - both are totally not my taste. 2x 2.3 And I'm sorry, but I couldn't wait for listen to Ars's rec: 'Ars Moriendi' could have been something I'd like, but certain parts of the song totally killed it to me. So I had very mixed feeling while listening, so my 2.3 is just an "average" score. Some parts were twice better than this, some parts were like 1.0, so...well. It's hard to rate it.

So far it's just building up and has a singer/songwriter vibe to it, especially with that acoustic guitar. Here we go, it's peaking at the top of the roller coaster! The acoustic guitar is speeding up and getting louder! Wow, decent climax actually. It's psychedelic and explosive! What the hell? Isn't this supposed to be a shitty pop punk band? Is this the same band that made that awful "Crushcrushcrush" song? It faded out and came back too? Cool choice. I'm genuinely surprised this band could make something good. No, this doesn't mean I'll check the album since "Ain't It Fun" is lame and most of the album clearly is going to sound more like that. 4/5 "Hole In Your Roof" His voice is soft and kinda weird. Is he Australian? Yeah sounds it. Musically it's pretty plain, but coupled with his voice is stands out somehow. Very indie, not too impressive, but certainly pleasant. 3.5/5

Radio Cure - Wilco - Wilco has always been one of those bands that I could just throw on and let play and time just flies by so quickly, I appreciate it so much, but it means that I could never become very acquainted with the music itself if that makes sense. This song is straight up my alley, it's a really great tune. I love the simplicity of it all. 3.8 6. Outro - Keys of Orthanc - somber, mellow, basic. This is okay. 2.6 7. This is such a typical song from them, which is far from being a bad thing. 3.6 10. Moon - Casualties of Cool - I like this far more than any of his metal focused stuff that I've heard. Far more. Serious Great Gig vibes near the end 4 11. No Place - Ezra Furman - One minute in. Love this. The description is very apt, this feels like an anthem for a manic episode. 4.1 12. Upwey, Tecoma, Blegrave - Ceres - I thought this was a hardcore band for a hot second. I've spent most the song trying to remember who I got this confused with... CERCE, I thought this was going to be Cerce and I'm very disappointed, sorry. This was a fine alt rock tune, it didn't stick out to me too much. I have a feeling I'd need to listen to the entire album before I can begin to actually appreciate it. 2.9 13. My Impure Hair - Blonde Redhead - Nice and dreamy 3.3 14. Perfect Darkness - Fink - I really do not like his voice. This strikes me as fuckboi-core. That being said it's not baaaaad, it's fine, just fine. and long. 2.8 15. Good Times - The Rolling Stones - Oh wow I was really not expecting a Sam Cooke cover, made me do a double take. The original is an absolute classic by one of the greatest voices of his generation. The Rolling Stones' cover lacks the same kind of magic and passion for me. Everything feels muted and more somber, but that could enhance a more dreamy state of mind. It has it's place on a summer playlist as a filler song that does it's job well. 2.9 I'll catch back up more probably tomorrow, I've gotta get ready to go to see Arms Aloft. Slowly but steadily catching up.

Definitely fun and I'm glad they went for something batshit just before Pink Cigarette, but compared to the fantasticness of The Air Confitioned Nightmare, it feels like a bit of a mess. Disco Volante and most Secret Chiefs 3 albums did this sound better, sorry Ars :[ still a solid 3.5 I Lied - Spain: The sleaze and manipulation here are speaking to me way more than they should. Enjoyed this one quite a bit, but it's a little overlong 3.4 Future - Paramore: An 8-minute Paramore song that Ars gave a 4.0?! Okay. Intrigued. Huge post-rock climax comes out of nowhere and while I like the verses before it, they didn't feel like they warranted a payoff that huge and abrupt. But wait, there's more? Segued into by...silence. Hmm. Heavy instrumental part 2, feels kinda pointless transitioning in this way, but there's a good motif here so I'll forgive it. Guessing Ars like the noise (and hey, Crushcrushcrush>>this!) 3.3 Hole In Your Roof - Augie March: Liked the one. Little bit safe; there was a guitar break around the halfway mark that made me think this would turn into a listenable version of Public Strain, but then it settled for reined-in catharsiscore. Oh well. 3.5 Katy Song - Red House Painters: Masterpiece. Got into this during a very, very low phase a couple of years ago, but as far as sad indie songs go this is top tier. 4.7

And...ah fuck, she's not a good singer, the lack of confidience in her own voice is a huge minus, and she should focus on the higher notes. Papa Universe 06.24.19	ketchup Mr. Bungle - Ars Moriendi: one of the better cuts on the album. delightfully all-over-the-place. 4 Spain - I Lied: is this some of that boring sophistipop Doof is into? 2.5 Paramore - Future: pretty much as boring a post-rock tune a band as usually boing as Paramore could have ever come up with. 1.5 Augie March - The Hole In Your Roof: I really don't like this grung-y early 00s production. makes it sound like the whole is perpetually tired of what they're playing. 2.5 Red House Painters - Katy Song: Mark Kozelek writes songs that are too long. that seems to be his whole gimmick, that he doesn't know when to stop. but out of all of his dragged out messes, this is probably the more tolerable one. 3 Sianvar - BedRoots: I remember hating this record, when it came out, but the problem with bands like Siavar is that when you hear the songs individually they actually sound impressive, but put them on one full-length record and it turns into faceless, repetitive mess that bores to tears. so this is pretty good, but I revisited the album and in that context it barely stands out and actually just drowns in the general chaotic nature of the band. the song by itself tho: 4 HUM - Stars: it's alright, but my god the guy can't sing for shit. 3 Claire Cronin - Wolfman: the budgie effect, but her vocals are just off-putting sometimes. 3.5

It carries such a nice tone, but I am not digging the vocal melody nor his voice. I was really hoping for it to transform into something great near the end, unfortunately that never came to be. 2.4 18. Bedroots - Sianvar - What in the name of Blue Swan is this. I enjoy DGD and Stolas, and protest the hero and whatever, but the biggest problem with every one of these bands is the vocals for me. They're either amazing, or grating as all hell. These are grating to me, far too smooth sounding for my tastes.

Again, loved it way more than I expected at first. 3.7 Hole In Your Roof: Drumming is very nice during the opening part, voice is interesting too. Some cool guitar wailing too. JohnnyoftheWell 06.29.19	Big Dater - Big Data: Oh boy, was not ready for this. Bass and grooves and silly fun lyrics. Verdict: smexy. 3.7 BedRoots - Sianvar: Never enjoyed this guy's vocals at all, although Wake had enough badass riffs to make up for them. This shoots for something more melodic and sophisticated and I am not altogether convinced but I like the dissonance and off-kilter chords in the verse. Same old reliable stuff from Will Swam, but I'm less than blown away with this as a whole. Drums have no punch. 2.8 Stars - Hum: Like these guys a lot! Much more into Downward is Heavenward but this album is neat and the song is one of its best. Good feels, big riffs. Also, "post-hardcore Smashing Pumpkins" is a nice summary from Ars 3.9 [Tourniquet] - Claire Cronin: Budgiecore yay! Not in love with the vibe but the next song on Bandcamp just started and I like this one better. Oh fuck, the song you rec'd was not Tourniquet or What The Night is Thinking if one but track 3, Wolfman! Lol I'm stupid. Well, those two got me in the mood, here goes. This is maybe the most Budgie song not by Mazzy Star I can think of. Selectively dramatic but never overbearing, compelling but slightly lopsided, simple but atmospheric arrangement, that acoustic sound...yup, it's all here. This song plods on a little longer than its mood necessitates I feel, but it kept my attention. Could have done with more of those creepy strings and dissonant chords, but I get that their hauntingness has to be fleeting. Extra .1 for the exhalation at the end 3.7

Christmas shopping at Walmart makes me want to commit arson, apparently (although it did crack me up). Ironically, this song is actually slightly more cohesive than Ars Moriendi, but not nearly as fun. I see what you did there but I liked the Bungle track! Not enjoying this merciless revenge policy. Now, Egarran is a man of firm principles and drastic resolve. I don't always agree with him because he makes me scared of attracting bad karma, but here I'm going to have to grit my teeth and do the right thing and pulling the plug at 8:31. 1 AdrenaLine - indigo jam unit: Listened to Kishi Bashi to detox after that last track but I needn't have bothered. Killer bassline, excellent keys, nice beat. This is never less than awesome, should check more from these guys 4.1 Long Water - Wilson Tanner: Found this in combination with the video absolutely mesmerising. Made me think of a more chilled out Gidge. The song was probably overlong and I might not have been in the mood were it not for those cute fishies, but that was a great experience and gets a solid 3.9 before I have second thoughts... Al Doum and the Faryds - Sinai: Oh boi, phrygian jungle vibes! Hefty runtime but good stuff. 3.7

Is this the final track on the album? 2.3 Big Dater: This is cute. Reminds me of lots of French electro/disco inspired bands. And Britney Spears for some reason? Maybe the vocal line, haha! 3.0 BedRoots: That vocalist so isn't for me. Yuck. The production isn't either. The music is meh. No, sorry, not my thing. 2.0 Stars: Guitars here are cool, nice and distorted, yet another track that's much cooler than the intro made me think. It's very much teenage music, but it holds up nicely, surprisingly. Woah, am I seriously thinking about a 3.6 here!? Seriously, those guitars warrant that. Delish. Wolfman: Yes budgie, this is lovely, the vinyl was on my wishlist already. That voice is mesmerizing. Super great how she/they feel that being on key all the time is overrated anyway. Absolutely a 3.8 The Most Unwanted Song: Eeew Ars, why did you do this!? Ahaha, I'm laughing like crazy though. What the hellllll is going on. That explanation makes this understandable and more like a cool idea. You can just hear people on the street saying ''If there's opra singing I'm out'', ''Fucking bagpipes'', ''Like such a like church ogran.'' And of course it has a children's choir. Ok Ars, this is a nightmare but I'm dying from laughter. I've sat through it all now. How the hell do you rate this!? Maybe the most average rank will do? For effort. They've clearly had fun. I'd never listen to this if I wanted to hear something good, but I've had tonnes of fun. 2.5

garas 06.29.19	The album is brilliant (I did 5.0 that one) so you must check it out. But it's their only ambient album so far (the next one is coming in July, but they changed their sound). But if you interested I can can rec you Andras/Andrew Wilson (aussie DJ, member of the project). He has a great taste in music, and makes super playlists.

At one point I thought I was still listening to the above. 2.8/5 Long Water - Very nice. I wanna take a nap now. According to the reactions of the local sea life, they should lower more instruments into the ocean. 3.5/5 Sinai - Oh wow, I was turned off even before the minute mark and there's 9 minutes left. After some delicate fast forwarding, there are definitely good parts on this. 2.3/5 Eternal Twins - Yeah, not bad. Dramatic and epic as only metal can be.
