Pet Semetary (2019)
1Elliot Goldenthal
Pet Sematary

Aside from the child, the teenager who got hit by the bus, and Fredd Gynne as Jud, the acting is often wooden, and the plot kind of just...goes from point A to point B without much impact on the viewer. There's some effective scenes like the Gage accident, the scenes with the dead teenager, and the final act, but I was never in love with this one.
2Christopher Young
Pet Semetary

I'd consider the remake a superior film in most aspects. The semetary itself has more of an omnipresence to those affected by its calls, and the atmosphere around it is far more established. The acting is much better overall too, especially Ellie's character who manages to be both terrifying and darkly humorous. Church the cat has more of a role here too, being both an omen and interacting with Ellie and Gage in chilling ways. There's some jumpscares here, but two of them are very effectively executed (not to spoil much, but one involves Ellie's mom and the other Jud). The remake does deviate from the original film and the book a bit, especially the ending and Ellie's bigger role from the first film, but it makes sense since it's a remake. It won't blow you away, but it's a well done remake and one of Stephen King's best adaptations.
