02.19.19 | post-rock is rock that doesn't follow traditional rock structure, delves into long form, musique concrete sometimes, and more progressive and expansive soundscapes normal rock would not usually touch. shoegaze is pop covered in reverb and noisy-washes of guitars, with the stylistic qualities of dream pop. dream Pop is basically shoegaze without the overblown reverb and noise qualities. the origins of dream pop can be found in older bands of post-punk, indie, new wave. |

02.19.19 | Post rock is like minimal prog rock. Shoegaze is known for its wall of sound created by guitar pedals. Dream pop is like shoegaze but without distorted guitars. All of these have evolved tho |

02.19.19 | All good comments, I will add Dream Pop will often use more synthesizers and programmed percussion in the mix but it's not a requirement. Shoegaze tends to be more "rock" oriented, but the two can have very similar overlaps in sound. |

02.21.19 | Actually I wanted you guys to rec me some archetypal albums to help me understand what the terms mean, I should have made it clearer lol. Changed the description, because my intent completely failed.
Nevertheless, you guys helped me a lot. Thank you. |

02.21.19 | Shoegaze:
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Yndi Halda
glaswegians (theyre a post rock, shoegaze, math? blend.. great stuff)
Post Rock:
sleepmakeswaves
God is an Astronaut
Holy Fawn (post metal, ambient blend, amazing band)
Dream Pop i am less versed in, but if you go to subgenres on one of the tabs in the top bar on Sput, you can find a myriad of bands that fall into that subgenre in one way or another. :-) |

Minushuman24
08.03.20 | Post rock is long complicated song structures and are largely voiceless. Relies heavily on reverb, tremolo a la Mono, and huge building crecendos
Shoegaze is just a shit ton of distortion
dream pop sounds.... just dreamy I guess, soft and airy music. Usually combines with shoegaze really well |

08.03.20 | if we're counting them, than i do love spiderland, laughing stock and pygmalion, but those don't really typify the post-rock sound. maybe pygmalion does a bit.
if we're talking about more purely post-rock albums though, hex and young team are alright |
