Actual Break-Up Albums

A couple years ago I did a list similar to this because of "rocky times" with my girlfriend. Now, me and said girlfriend have parted after almost a half a decade dating. I have been single for almost a couple months now. These are the actual albums that have helped me get through, not just "these are good break-up albums," but the specific albums that have related to me personally. These aren't "deep-cuts," that's for certain.

"And i'd like to just continue to be able to express myself
As best as i can with this instrument"

This is my favorite album of all time. Me and said girlfriend, while dating, lived about 2 hours away from each other. When I first discovered this album I played it on repeat on drives to her place and with her, etc. The instrumental quality made it infinitely re-listenable and for the life of me I cannot disassociate this album with those experiences I had during those time periods. I listened to this album a few times to reminisce right after our break-up, but now I can't stand to listen to this album. My favorite album of all time. Maybe after a year or so I may be able to pick this up again fresh, but as of right now I have no intention to listen to this album, which hurts. This album has been taken from me.

"we've both been so unhappy
so let's just see what happens
when the summer ends."

This album is the epitome of youthful romance and heartbreak. It is comforting, soothing, bittersweet, and beautiful. A great early-early-early morning drive soundtrack.

"I'm not fucking around." "My beloved, you are the lover of my impossible soul"

I always associated this album with spiritual struggle, which I personally identified with stronger. But now going through a serious break-up where I initiated the action to help me find myself in the grand scheme of existence, this album resonates with me on a whole different level. Impossible Soul reaches deep into my fiber unlike any other lyrical content that I had ever thought possible to identify with. I hunger for cosmic revelation, and our pursuit of pleasure had been selfish. I knew I was insatiable. I knew I longed for greater transformation. "I didn't mean to lead you on... I only meant to please me, however..."

"I'll take my love to the grave"

When will your face fade from my memory? Will it be bittersweet, will I embrace it, or am I fighting to never forget?

"I've never been so alone,
and I've never be so alive"

This album is nostalgic in almost every sense. It throws me back to a former time, yet its lyrics ring truer than ever. Oh comforting 90's mainstream rock... we've grown up together. Yet through you I have the tools to move on and create anew.

"Take a hold of my life
Make it into one that I want it to be"

Thank you, user Scoot for suggesting this album. This is the only album on this list I had never listened to until post-break-up. I've never been big on doom metal, but this album displays the emotional capabilities of the genre that only the genre could exemplify. Wow.
