Albums that got me into music genres
The journey of Lucca
Kill 'Em All
This is the first album I ever owned back in 1995 when I was still in Elementary school. Thanks, older brother.
This is the album that really got me into nu-metal, which was pretty much all I was into for the next few years other than Metallica and Slayer.
BAM! This got me into more extreme metal and out of my nu-metal phase. When I saw Rational Gaze on Fuse back in 02, that was the end of my nu-metal phase. Still my favorite band of all time (obviously)
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory
I got into this around the same time as Meshuggah, and this got me into a shit ton of prog metal and also classic prog from the 70s. This was really the gateway band for me to music that wasn't just metal.
Tomb of the Mutilated
My brother gave me a mix CD of a shit ton of death metal on it (Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Cryptopsy, etc) but this was so deliciously graphic that it was the first one that truly caught my attention . This is all still 2002 btw.
Rappers like Tupac and Biggie took me a while longer to get into. I'm white, leave me alone. Also, Eminem took me a minute to get into because every Eminem fan that I grew up with was a colossal douchebag and I didn't want to be associated with that shit.
This has always been something that I have been into, but it wasn't really until freshman year of college where I realized how fucking much I love the grunge era and how much nostalgia I really had with all of that KRock/MTV phase of music from my childhood. I would just enjoy this shit in passing when I was growing up, but now I have a shit ton of grunge records and put them on much more frequently. Mostly thanks to Pearl Jam.
The 20/20 Experience
I guess I secretly liked pop way before this album, but this was the one where I just said "fuck it, I don't care how not cool I look - I'm going to get a shit ton of pop albums and openly tell all my metalhead friends how sick this album is."
Thanks for listening, therapists
Kanye West - The College Dropout and Kendrick Lamar - GKMC simultaneously made me go from disliking all rap that isn’t Eminem to it being practically my favorite genre for a while
College Dropout is so gooddamn good.
Dude, legit just heard that maybe a week ago? It's fucking dank. Oh and don't feel ashamed- Aesop got me into HH too.
Aha, good I'm not alone! And yeah, I actually just got into Kanye a few months back
sweet list idea! while I don't really listen to it anymore, 4 used to be in heavy rotation for me back in the day
Thanks, man! And yeah, I don't really listen to too much DT anymore, but whenever Scenes, Change of Seasons, Images or Awake gets thrown on I always have a great time listening to them.
Older brothers are the best. I didn't have one, but my best friend had an older brother that introduced us to Metallica and Megadeth and taught us how to play some riffs on guitar
Yeah man, I have him to thank for everything.
But now I'm curious what the fuck I would be listening to now if I was an only child aha
meshuggah changed my world around the same year back then too so I feel u
I was the older brother finding everything out so my bro and sis learned to appreciate my knowledge
Fuck yeah Relinquished m////////
Also, nice 5s bro
Oh I didn't do punk or hardcore but I barely listen to any so I dunno
