Albums that got me into music genres

The journey of Lucca
Kill 'Em All

This is the first album I ever owned back in 1995 when I was still in Elementary school. Thanks, older brother.

This is the album that really got me into nu-metal, which was pretty much all I was into for the next few years other than Metallica and Slayer.

BAM! This got me into more extreme metal and out of my nu-metal phase. When I saw Rational Gaze on Fuse back in 02, that was the end of my nu-metal phase. Still my favorite band of all time (obviously)
4Dream Theater
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory

I got into this around the same time as Meshuggah, and this got me into a shit ton of prog metal and also classic prog from the 70s. This was really the gateway band for me to music that wasn't just metal.
5Cannibal Corpse
Tomb of the Mutilated

My brother gave me a mix CD of a shit ton of death metal on it (Morbid Angel, Behemoth, Cryptopsy, etc) but this was so deliciously graphic that it was the first one that truly caught my attention . This is all still 2002 btw.
6Aesop Rock
Labor Days

Rappers like Tupac and Biggie took me a while longer to get into. I'm white, leave me alone. Also, Eminem took me a minute to get into because every Eminem fan that I grew up with was a colossal douchebag and I didn't want to be associated with that shit.
7Pearl Jam

This has always been something that I have been into, but it wasn't really until freshman year of college where I realized how fucking much I love the grunge era and how much nostalgia I really had with all of that KRock/MTV phase of music from my childhood. I would just enjoy this shit in passing when I was growing up, but now I have a shit ton of grunge records and put them on much more frequently. Mostly thanks to Pearl Jam.
8Justin Timberlake
The 20/20 Experience

I guess I secretly liked pop way before this album, but this was the one where I just said "fuck it, I don't care how not cool I look - I'm going to get a shit ton of pop albums and openly tell all my metalhead friends how sick this album is."
