|Alex G ranked|
the muthafuckin realest
|7||(Sandy) Alex G|
The first few times listening, Winner can seem kind of bland, especially relative to any other release Alex G has put out; but once you play through a few more times you realize that Winner is a unambitious, chill Alex G record. And that's ok.

I was kind of surprised how weird this was at times, knowing that this was his 1st full length release. There's quite a bit of filler/interlude material that kinda meanders, but there are also a few songs that rank among Alex's best. (Let It Go, Gnaw, Things To Do, Race).

As Winner was a transition album from Race to his next 3 more realized projects, Beach Music seems to be a transition from DSU to Rocket and beyond. Although I guess time will till if this ends up being true.
|4||(Sandy) Alex G|
Mis through Message (the last half of the record) are about as good as any half Alex G has put out. Water, Fighting, and Candy lag behind the rest.
|3||(Sandy) Alex G|
After Alex G found his signature sound on Rules and Trick, DSU is a result of it being pushed to the max. It rocks a little harder than Trick and gets a little weirder.

The most varied sonically, the musical equivalent of "if you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes.' Powerful Man, Bobby, Proud, Sportstar, and Guilty are all evidence that Alex G has worked on fleshing his songs out, but he still lives by the shorter song.

The most consistent, in terms of both quality and vision and probably has the best bonus tracks.
|You def hit the nail on the head with Trick and talking about the 2nd half of Rules. |
My ranking would be Trick, DSU, Rules, Race, Beach Music, Rocket, and Winner. To be fair I haven't heard Rocket a ton, but Bobby & Powerful Man are two of his best songs period. Easy is one of my favorites releases by him too even though it's just a EP.
I hope he is able to top Trick one day, but even if he doesn't I'd be stunned if he ever put out a bad album or one without at least a couple classic tracks.
|I'm pretty interested to see how he differs his sound esp. after Rocket|
|have you seen him live? i wonder how some of these songs translate in performance|
|I have not, only seen a few youtube videos. |
|this one is a classic tho: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=odPaKqiLdZQ|
here is a video i took when i saw him back in 2014 at a small ass place... of course i only recorded animals lol... it rules though. I love how he screams the lyrics
He is definitely worth seeing though
