My Demo Album

Started October 2016, finished on October 2017. This is more or less a proof of concept. I'm not a musician in any regards other than lyrics and singing. So I had to take it upon myself to mess around with various instruments until melodies came out. (It probably would have been smarter to just learn guitar and go from there, but I'm impatient) I'll be recording these tracks with my friend who is a producer and in a popular local garage rock band. I think my ideas here could make something special with the right talent and production.
1Goodbye to sleep
Shake Away The Reins

1. River's Edge.
Basically just an intro. It builds up to the second track.
Not the best track I think. Mix is kinda crap, but it sets the tone well I think.
A majority of the album is about various forms of abuse. This song is inspired by the film of the same name.
2Goodbye To sleep
Shake Away The Reins

2. Heirophilia
This song is probably the best mixed.
Super dark and gross sounding. I tried to organize the tracks so it gets more emotional and less violent as it goes on, so these first tracks are very sludge metal inspired and aggressive.
3Goodbye to sleep
Shake Away The Reins

3. Iron Mask
The heaviest track on the album I think.
Also the most straight forward lyrically.
4Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

4. Livide
The first in a trilogy of melodic songs.
Very gothic and synth driven. Lyrics are an unused track from my black metal band.
5Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

5. Shake Away The Reins
My favorite. The mix is bad but whatever. I love the melody and the guitar riff I came up with is nice I think.
6Goodbye to Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

6. Have A Nice Day
Some 80's synth vibes hidden in this one.
Very Post-Punk inspired with some east-Asian folk instrumentation thrown in for atmosphere.
The chorus is one of my favorites.
7Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

7. In Memoriam
The next two songs are a continuation of track 6 telling a brief story.
This one has a nice chorus I think, it was inspired by a Nicole Dollanganger song called In The Land.
8Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

8. Scum of The Earth
Really dark and black metal inspired, some really feral screams and the riff calls back to Mayhem.
Lyrics are a bit jeuvenile, but it was written during a really low point, so there's feeling behind it, therefore I can't completely hate it.
9Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

9. Doomwalker
The last truly heavy track on the record, it sounds like the first half of the album. A bit of a panic attack before the "sigh of relief" that's the last part of the album.
Imagine a sludge metal Type O Negative with small flares of Ghost BC
10Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

10. Floorboard Swan
A very somber piano track
Brighter than the previous tracks for sure. It serves as a transition to the last "story arc" of the album
11Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

11. Solve Et Coagula
Directly inspired by Marilyn Manson's Minute of Decay.
It's pretty much shamelessly ripped. But add in some Type O Negative influences. The song comes off as almost a ballad.
12Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

12. Why Are We Dying?
The last track.
I've always been unsure of this one. It has a good concept I think. It's a mixture of emo, black metal and some salvia Palth inspired stuff towards the end. My inspiration for this one was I Was All Over Her by Salvia Palth
13Goodbye To Sleep
Shake Away The Reins

13. Borderline [bonus]
This one didn't fit on the album. Very Elliott Smith inspired.

Tracks 14 and 15 are just covers.
14Chelsea Wolfe
Pain Is Beauty
