RWBY Volume 1 Soundtrack track-by-track review
1Jeff Williams
RWBY Volume 1 Soundtrack

This Will Be The Day - Great opener for the show and the soundtrack. Jeff's guitar is on point and Casey's vocals as always, are amazing. 5/5

Red Like Roses (Red Trailer) - When I saw the original Red Trailer when it came out, this song particularly stuck out to me. Of course I loved the trailer and was hooked on the show after I watched it. But the music here is amazing. I can't wait to find out what it is Ruby was doing in the forest, slaying all those Grimm, and to know the meaning behind the lyrics Only gripe is I wish there were more vocals. 4/5

Mirror Mirror (White Trailer) - The way this song represents Weiss' character so early on is great. I love that with this song alone you can already see her story and her traits. Great song 4/5

From Shadows (Black Trailer) - I like this version but the full song is definitely better. Not much to say here until I get to the actual song 3/5

I Burn (Yellow Trailer) - The remixes of the first three trailer's songs makes sense for the Yellow Trailer's setting (which is a club playing dance music), but it was a little disappointing to just hear weirdly remixed versions of those songs just kind of shoved in here. Of course near the end we actually get Yang's theme "I Burn", but it's only a portion of the chorus. 2/5

Gold - Casey's vocals are again amazing but this song is a little awkward for my taste. Throughout this soundtrack we've gotten these dark and thoughtful songs, digging into each of the characters and showing who they are without really showing the characters themselves. But I don't really know who or what this song is about. I don't know where it fits in the plot of Volume 1 and how it even works here. But it's also not a bad song in general. Not great, but okay. 2/5

I Burn - Here's Yang's song! Yang being my favorite character, it's obvious why I find this song exhilarating and filled with blood pumping adrenaline. The vocals and the emotion behind every word shows that Yang is cocky and totally badass. Lamar Hall makes his debut here, and while he's good, it makes the song feel a little corny, it also just comes out of left field and completely surprises any newcomer to the music. Lamar doesn't show up again on this soundtrack but he's in two more RWBY songs later down the road. 4/5

I May Fall - Here it is, the magnum opus of the RWBY Volume 1 Soundtrack. This is definitely my favorite song on the album, and one of my favorite RWBY songs ever. Jeff and Casey swap vocals and harmonize here and their voices work perfectly together. The lyrics are actually quite...GRIMM (sorry) and give this sense of worry for the characters. Of course these lyrics don't really come into play until Volume 3 but it still works here. Casey's vocals are particularly excellent here, every verse she sounds like she's losing something or someone dear to her and you feel it. 5/5

Red Like Roses Part II - This song is super fast and super depressing. The lyrics are dark as FUCK! I assume that the person that is talked about here is Ruby's mother Summer Rose, but it also could be Raven, Yang's mom. The pace of this song gets my heart going and makes me wanna run around and break shit. The anger, the sadness, the bloody excellent guitars from Jeff. It all makes this an awesome tune to listen to. 5/5

I Burn (Remix) - Yep there's another one. Why? I don't know 1/5

From Shadows - And now we have the actual song. I love it. Just like Yang, and Weiss, you can tell exactly who Blake is just from this song. She's been regarded as trash because she's a Faunus and that kills her inside. Not to mention her ex-boyfriend Adam Taurus that wants to hunt her down and take everything from her piece by piece. You can see it all here. It makes you instantly care for Blake and want her to break free from these shackles that have been on her her whole life. 5/5

Wings - Probably my least favorite here but it isn't awful, I just find it boring myself. Casey sounds great as usual but there's not much here that I enjoy 2/5
