Sputnik Birthdays 2.0

Fuck my life, a previous description just got erased by my stupid computer, so to keep it short: I'll link your birth date (month, day, year) to an album and provide a stupid music related fact that happened that day. Let's go!
1Deftones
Around the Fur

mete0ra

Oct. 30th 1997

Two days before Deftones released this emblematic album. Kiss, the Cure and Judas Priest also released albums. Hell, even Eros Ramazotti released an album this day.

FACT: The Spice Girls release Spiceworld, their second number one album, making the group the first British band since The Beatles to have two albums in the US chart at the same time. Spice and Spiceworld have amassed enough sales for one out of every two people in Britain to own a Spice Girls album.
2Guns N' Roses
Appetite for Destruction

LepreCon

July 21th 1987

Welcome to the jungle Con. Dio also released "Dreamevil" on this very day.

FACT: 10 days later, MTV Europe is launched. The first video played is "Money for Nothing" by Dire Straits.
3Robbie Williams
Swing When You're Winning

MistaCrave

Nov. 11 2001

Remember when in the other list I told you he left Take That. Well, no rest for the wicked. Yoko Ono released an album 2 days before, which doesn't mean you should feel better about it.

FACT: 1 week before, in the UK, BMG becomes the first major label to release a compact disc with copy protection, Natalie Imbruglia's White Lilies Island. Within two weeks BMG announces they will re-issue the disc without the copy protection, due to complaints from consumers who were unable to play the CDs in their personal computers.
4OutKast
ATLiens

trackbytrackreviews

August 25th 1996

One day later, Snap! released a compilation which contained 10 versions of Rythm is a dancer" and 15 remixes of "The Power".

FACT: 11 days later, rapper Tupac Shakur is shot one time whilst being driven from the MGM Grand Hotel along Sunset Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, after seeing the allegedly fixed Mike Tyson versus Bruce Seldon boxing match, in what is apparently a drive-by shooting.
5Sponge
Rotting Pinata

owen

August 3rd 1994

Happy b-day Owen, have a Rotting Pinata! Also Melvins released an album. It was called "Prick" which I obviously wasn't gonna link it to your entry. Actually, I haven't jammed it yet...

FACT: 6 days later, Machine Head release their first album Burn My Eyes, which was a big success and becomes Roadrunner Records' best selling debut album. Hell of a record.
6Jewel
Pieces of You

Dissonant

Sep. 29th 1995

Lots of albums released a day before your birthday and I don't know any single one of them. Mike Watt (joking, he was in The Stooges, Minutemen...), Adina Howard, Wax...

FACT: One day later, Oasis released their single "Wonderwall". And everyone knows what happened after.
7Skinny Puppy
Cleanse Fold and Manipulate

Dis_Con_Nec_Ted

The same day that Sputnikmusic launched, but 18 years before.

immortalizepain

July 4th 1993

One day after U2 released "Zooropa" which was... pretty forgettable.

FACT: 3 days after, singer Mia Zapata of punk band The Gits is found dead after being beaten, sexually assaulted and strangled in the Capitol Hill district of Seattle. Her murder goes unsolved for a decade until DNA evidence leads to an arrest and conviction. Terrible.
10Luka Bloom

Kris.

LandDiving

Oct. 13th 199...2?

12Cherry Poppin Daddies
Rapid City Muscle Car

Devastator

Dic. 26th 1994

This terribly, terribly, terribly named band released an album 9 days before your birthday and that was the closest I could find. Sure, some obscure underground grindcore band released smth this day but... ahm... yeah.

FACT: The dates are not very clear, but Wolfsbane lead singer Blaze Bayley auditions and is hired by Iron Maiden, at least, on this year.

KjSwantko

June 19th 1989

I can't believe you chose Kreator over Michael Bolton. smh.

FACT: 9 days after, Jon Bon Jovi marries his high school sweetheart Dorothea Hurley at the Graceland Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

AaroN911

July 1st 1990

Summer of '90 brings you and a new Devo album one day after. Also my favourite Suicidal Tendencies album was released a few days later: "Lights, Camera, Revolution!"

FACT: 1 day before, Knebworth 1990 is held, a one-off festival at Knebworth Park, England in support of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy. Participating musicians had all been winners of the Silver Clef Award. The acts included headliners Pink Floyd, Genesis, Robert Plant, Elton John, Dire Straits, Status Quo, Eric Clapton and others. Elton John was not attacked by grasshoppers this time.

robertsona

August 22nd 1995

My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, NOFX, Dishwalla and Tindersticks also released albums the very same day.

FACT: Rancid release their third studio album "...And Out Come the Wolves". Along with Green Day's "Dookie" and The Offspring's "Smash" (both released a year before), this album helped revive mainstream popular interest in punk rock in the mid-1990s, and becomes one of the best-selling independent records of all time. "...And Out Come the Wolves" eventually goes platinum.
20Spin Doctors
Turn It Upside Down

frozencarl

June 16th 1994

You were sandwiched between the release of Pansy Division's "Deflowered" and Japanese band Ghost's "Temple Stone".

FACT: 3 weeks before, The Eagles launch the Hell Freezes Over tour in Burbank, California. The reunion tour is the group's first since breaking up in 1980, but much is also made of the band becoming the first to charge over $100 per ticket for arena shows. I guess that has to do with the fact that you are frozen, Carl ;)

Hawks

June 10th 1992 (assuming date format)

Just one day before, Hawks, I guess is a proper fit.

FACT: Few days after, guitarist Stefanie Sargent of up-and-coming punk rock band 7 Year Bitch dies of asphyxiation after returning home from a party in which she had drunk alcohol and taken a small amount of heroin. She was 24.

VirtualBlaze

April 29th 2000

4 days before Cypress Hill released their 5th, but also Toni Braxton, Neil Young and Papa Roach published seldom albums. (You didn't think I was gonna forget about Papa Roach, did you? ;)

FACT: Speaking about Neil Young, a $1.8 million civil fraud lawsuit was filed against Neil Young in Los Angeles Superior Court by a former Village Voice writer a few days after your birth day. The lawsuit charged that Young broke an agreement to have a biography written about him when he blocked the book's publication. I guess Neil has enough secrets to keep.
27Godspeed You! Black Emperor

There was quite some movement in that week. Silverchair, Kula Shaker and Stereophonics all released albums 3 days later.

FACT: The very same day you were born, Trauma Records filed a $40 million breach-of-contract lawsuit against the members of Bush for failing to deliver a new album. They should have actually paid them that money as thanks for not releasing the aforementioned album. Gavin would fulfill his revenge releasing "The Science of Things" a few months later.
28Great White
Hooked

gagnonov

Feb 27th 1991

The flamboyant glam rockers released "Hooked" just one day before and exactly one week before, the legendary Butthole Surfers would release "Piouhgd" to the world.

FACT: This very same day, James "Sex Machine" Brown is granted an early parole and released from jail, following his arrest after a high-speed car chase through two states in 1989.
