My 50 favorite records in my collection.

5 records away from hitting the 500 mark, so these are my favorite 10%, in no particular order, and only one album per artist. Full collection here: https://www.discogs.com/user/JasonCarne/collection?page=1&sort=format%2Casc&folder=0&limit=250
1NoMeansNo
Wrong

Original pressing I snagged yesterday for $50, one of the best punk/hardcore album ever.

2Mystifier
The World Is So Good That Who Made It Doesn't Live

Bought this one in Helvete last month, that's gotta add some serious kvlt points. Easily one of my favorite black metal records of all time - raw, theatrical, over the top evil madness.

3ABC
The Lexicon of Love

A dirt cheap, infectious 80's new wave album you can find anywhere, but it's one of my most listened to records.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5g-aJJ0ku7I
4Stan Getz
Getz/Gilberto

Might not be the first as many claim it to, but it's the most famous of the boosa-nova/jazz hybrid records and one of the best. This is another you can find anywhere, but always worth owning.

5Tortoise
TNT

Killer jazzy post-rock from the 90's. Scored an original of this one a few months back at my local shop in "just in" used section, near mint.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WGb_9UW6EU
6Sacrifice
Forward to Termination

Isn't it nice when thrash actually...you know...thrashes? This record slays 90% of the so-called classics of the era with ease. Snapped this an original of this for around $20 in near mint condition.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNIdzhI4ZIQ
7Sade
Promise

Most people might have Love Deluxe in their top spot for this soulful songstress, but Promise has always been my favorite from her. Scored it for under $5 in a book shop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wnc9bsOlIqY&list=PL-UWPlRIl68qXfwQdZ0JafM3MSo_BdElM
8Bohren & Der Club Of Gore
Sunset Mission

Noir-jazz at its best. Perfect for whiskey soaked rainy nights. Until it's recent repressing, this thing was a unicorn, but it's pretty widely available now.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Zl5vpy__dQ
9Wire
Pink Flag

THE post-punk classic, essential listening. Got an original at a record fair in Indiana on a road trip for about $40.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNVdziest58
10Television
Marquee Moon

The OTHER post-punk classic, also essential listening. I own the original pressing, in damn near mint condition, it was a $60 splurge.

11Mare
Mare

Forget Isis, Neurosis, The Ocean, or any of the heavy hitters in the post-metal world, Mare crushes them all to dust in 25 minutes on their legendary album (the only one they ever made). Untouchable stuff, available through Hydra Head Records for not much these days - I believe they are all on blue wax like mine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4221CYMzG1w
12Tenhi
Maaaet

Russian neo-folk that does it better than anyone in the business. Recently their whole discography got a re-issue (I snagged them all except for the most recent), all of them are great but none beat this one. Track 6 is a contender for one of the most gorgeous tracks ever recorded.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80P1tf6fFWc&list=PL4786AC18564C14F8
13Arcturus
La Masquerade Infernale

Freak-show avantgarde black metal, and one of my personal favorite records for the last 15 years. Bought a repress on gray wax through discogs a while back for around $30.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vw_tJYtzKX4
14Maxwell
Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite

Man, this thing FUNKS. Douple LP, gold wax, always good jams for a good time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4avT0Z46UAg
15Diamond D
Stunts, Blunts and Hip Hop

An underrated hip-hop masterpiece, this one is always in heavy rotation for me. Found this in a basement vinyl shop in KY.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCQM67exwXo
16The Trouble
Nobody Laughs Anymore

A severely slept on mid-2000's should-be classic.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zzaOQIKCCjE&list=PLSDUAtVvqwhOIrMxQNdXX9bHwumkOS-WV
17Tom Waits
Rain Dogs

My favorite album of all time, truly flawless.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QywH5lialsU&list=PLOCL3V5HRiux1by4stXlnEtmhlji7IuuB
18Aesop Rock
The Impossible Kid

Killer packaging, a MASSIVE poster with great artwork from Alex Pardee, and a double LP (one lime green, one hot pink). My favorite Aesop album, and one that has serious replay value.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSYwG-1GAXQ&list=PLJNbijG2M7OzKIR2iK3u-4NdZP5LeBQYL
19DJ Shadow
Endtroducing...

A top 5 album for me, and trip-hop/samplings finest hour. I landed an original at a shop somewhere in PA for pretty cheap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X5UYr8A9y4Q
20Madrugada
Industrial Silence

A late-90's alt-rock gem that should have receive a lot more acclaim that it did. Gorgeous blue vinyl in heavy gatefold packaging.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVHm47bXhKU
21Ulver
Blood Inside

Picture disc, white/red artwork. It was a toss up between this one and my purple wax edition of Perdition City which is just as great, but I find myself returning to this one more. Picked it up in Nashville last year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bb6yvlkT9M
22Swans
White Light From the Mouth of Infinity

Gira & Co's best album by a mile in my book. Got the recent re-issue online somewhere.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Il2JaXE4zRI
23Paul Desmond
Glad to Be Unhappy

The epitome of cool jazz done right - Desmond was one of the best at this sound, and this album in particular has always been a go-to for quiet nights.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YGICoBSLeJ4
24The Flaming Lips
The Soft Bulletin

Hands down the best Lips record in their discography, it sounds huge and full on wax in a way it never did through computer speakers for me.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NgvlDOhRQOA
25Harvey Milk
Courtesy and Good Will Toward Men

A sludge-metal masterpiece, grabbed an original of this one for like $40 at some hole-in-the-wall shop in Cleveland last summer.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bebh2wLj6Nc
26Spiritualized
Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space

The best psych-rock album of the 90's, and top 20 record for me period, complete with beautiful packaging and clean design.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DbjqPgV7xo8
27Katatonia
Saw You Drown

10" blue vinyl, limited to 1000 pieces. Katatonia's turning point from death-doom to their now staple sound of depressive rock/metal. These 4 tracks are some of my favorite this group ever released, such pure emotion in Renske's voice here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9okZvyYnj8
28Kayo Dot
Choirs of the Eye

It's not here yet, but I pro-ordered this classic that is FINALLY getting a vinyl pressing. Snagged the limited edition special edition version.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GzJA1xQxTCU
29RJD2
Deadringer

Killer trip-hop stuff, I have an original from Discogs but it's a little beat. I'll probably grab a better version someday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=joOeYN5F1AA
30Blood for Blood
Revenge on Society

Angry, misanthropic, trashy Boston hardcore at it's very best. The title track makes me want to crack the planet in half.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p4FRmC6KTNw
31Eric B and Rakim
Let the Rhythm Hit 'Em

If Rakim is not at least in the conversation for your top 5 MC's I don't know what to tell you. This album has FLOW with classic bars and beats for days.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vtvK-wHrt1g&list=PLU4kI1MEN_MAdiJ_V5IHNx2pQDxSUGsMn
32AJJ
Knife Man

Sarcastic, snarky, bitter folk-punk at its finest. Snagged this one at Vintage Vinyl in NJ, I miss living so close to this shop.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IX7TRD6XaRs
33Laaz Rockit
Annihilation Principle

Furious, buzzsaw sounding guitars and vicious vocal delivery, another thrash favorite of mine. Grabbed an original of this one at a record fair in PA - in Wilkes-Barre specifically if I recall correctly. Best opening track of any thrash record ever.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXji7M-Nyl4
34Carissa's Wierd
Songs About Leaving

Damn, this album is SAD, but it's so beautiful in it's pure raw emotion. I think my version of this is red.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPJw9-uWIRE&list=PLUikdB6y1SAtFL_AGK7C1G7X6EklmvAjb
35Nouvelle Vague
Nouvelle Vague

What could be better than a French bossa-nova group doing covers of 70's and 80's punk classics? Not much apparently, because this thing is insanely fun and downright sexy at times.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3GVd4DFFPA&list=PLm--B4L6tdcMfwUtsmIzx-dA6jF-jn8Ea
36Cryptopsy
None So Vile

Possibly the best death metal album from Canada of all time, and one of my favorite in the genre. Found this somewhere in Ohio.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3JeaBoBU-c
37MF DOOM
Operation: Doomsday

My favorite album under this moniker from DOOM, just endlessly listenable bars and beats. Grabbed this one at Grimey's in Nashville last year. Still hoping to grab a copy of Vaudevillain Villain eventually though, that's my favorite DOOM project.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w99f5iVxOtg
38Scott Walker
The Drift

Terrifying, spooky stuff meant to be turned up loud in the dark. Grabbed it off of discogs for an insanely low price last year.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuQqFGMSN9g&list=PL2rQpgf0XqeNP3DOueagx5Hht3-sQ4NiS
39Jellyfish
Spilt Milk

Grabbed this on the same trip as the MF DOOM one above at Grimey's in Nashville. This album is what would happen in you put Queen and the 90's in a blender.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cu9xIyZ6ZMg
40Electric Wizard
Dopethrone

Got this one very recently at my local shop in Lexington, KY - Pops Resale. Showed up for $40 in the "just in" section and grabbed it immediately - it's a purple wax reissue that sounds great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaMbKZPBruU
41Cocteau Twins
Heaven or Las Vegas

Shoegaze bliss, and essential listening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQpKtnLUduE&list=PLfGibfZATlGrAV2wvxpTWXR9A6zrIzWlQ
42The Delgados
Hate

This album was recommended to me here as something to check out if I was digging The Flaming Lips' "Soft Bulletin" album - it was a dead on perfect rec, and it's become a personal favorite over the last few years. Paid around $25 for this on Discogs a while back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZZdzoH0YMcE&list=PL8SUsFQKL7zXua_E4Q5GeirI-OizdpUGd
43Khanate
Things Viral

Drone perfected - heavyweight vinyl, burgandy double LP from Hydra Head. I grabbed it along with the self-titled release from these guys when those dropped a year or two back.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PAIPweLLHio&list=PLDql_Y6ISXUHapP592ZEzbqllAAe_fWTG
44Deltron 3030
Deltron 3030

Possibly my favorite hip-hop release ever, I got this one on white vinyl, it was one of my first in my collection.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6YJjkO7F5A
45Captain Beyond
Captain Beyond

Grabbing a mint original of this one at a record fair in Wilkes-Barre PA, required psych-rock listening.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zHbjySOJ7Hw
46Low
I Could Live in Hope

An OG pressing of this slowcore classic snagged at the punk rock flea market in Asbury Park, NJ a few years ago for dirt cheap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uvec96wI6GI
47Overcast
Fight Ambition To Kill

A record in the pantheon of metalcore royalty, this thing came CHEAP off of Discogs, and I thrown it on all of the time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF-oEeJ3-Kk
48Immolation
Close to a World Below

Recent reissue on fire orange vinyl, limited to like 300 pieces or something like that - got it along with Failure For Gods and Here In After, both also limited to the same pressing count. This album is the soundtrack of hell.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPQL2mhK79k
49Bad Religion
Suffer

One of my favorite punk albums, Graffin's a lyrical wizard and this was where they were at the top of their game.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXs3ENJ1W7A
50Cave In
Jupiter

My very first vinyl record I ever purchased, I got off to a good start - this is progressive metalcore perfection.
