07.28.13 | I think Sorceror's Stone was better than CoS, the latter kind of bored me. And GoF was a bit better than CoS

Deathly Hallows and Order of the Phoenix are kind of hard for me to rank, because the first halves of those books are so difficult to get through, but once you reach a certain point in them, they're the best of the series--Deathly Hallows once Harry attains the sword of Gryffindor again, and Order of the Phoenix somewhere around the time that Dumbledore's Army is formed. |

The Order movie was so meh. The book had some of my favorite parts of the entire series, and they took out an absurd amount of stuff |
avonbarksdale221
07.28.13 | The movies were an abomination from Goblet Of Fire onward. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | ^ They did a pretty good job with DH, minus the Battle of Hogwarts. They left out most of the main parts of HBP, which was completely stupid. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Deathly Hallows Part 1 was actually hella good. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | I do hate that they fucked up Neville's badassery in the 2nd part though. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | That Snape montage was perfect though, I thought. |

07.28.13 | Yeah, that part brought the feels. The resurrection stone/forbidden forest scene was pretty great as well. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Fasho. The final battle with ole' Voldy was nowhere near as epic as it was in the books though. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Yeah. It's like, after the forbidden forest scene they rushed everything. |

Rowan5215
07.28.13 | "The Order movie was so meh. The book had some of my favorite parts of the entire series, and they took out an absurd amount of stuff"
It's actually the opposite for me. Obviously they had to cut stuff and I think they did a decent job of it. Goblet of Fire, on the other hand, had some of my favourites parts of the series and the movie fucked it up royally and completely wasted David Tennant's talent. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Imelda Staunton totally owned the part of Umbridge. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | I wish they wouldn't have skipped 90% of Voldemort's passed in the HBP movie like they did haha. It added a lot of depth to an otherwise kind of cliche villain |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Right? But, you know, romance is more important. But the cinematography in HBP was fucking awesome. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Oh yeah, no doubt they got Umbridge right. But seeing as how it was the longest book and it was the shortest movie, you'd think they'd be able to come up with a middle ground on what content to actually cut out. But yeah, totally agree about Goblet and the waste of David Tennant. |
Point1
07.28.13 | 5>3>6>7>4>2>1 |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Cinematography of the entire series was done pretty damn well! The mood of everything in the DH movies were perfect though, and even the pacing I thought was excellent (which a lot of people complained about in part 1). |
Ignimbrite
07.28.13 | "Goblet of Fire was the best book and movie."
fuck that, it was by far the worst movie |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Part 1 had perfect pacing, it was totally in tone with the first half of the book. The part with Nagini as Bathilda was awesome, and somewhat creepy. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Yeah it was. The whole Godric's Hollow scene was fantastic. I also loved that part they added where Harry and Hermione were dancing in the tent |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Yeah, some people were bitching about that part. But I thought it was done well. The song was perfect as well. I do wish they would've added the Dursley's saying their farewell's though. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | They do in the deleted scenes. There is a lot of those types of scenes that ended up in the deleted scenes, which I was still stoked to see. I wish they would've shown the Potterwatch bit, because that was an awesome part of the book. It kind of gave Harry and co. a bit of hope where there pretty much wasn't any |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | I know it's a deleted scene, I just wish they would've kept it in the damn movie.
I'm gonna do a movies ranked list next. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Yeah it was, it was more of an easter egg if anything. That was just another thing to add to Harry's shit pile in that last book haha. It was crazy seeing a different dynamic of Dumbledore, for me particularly when Dumbledore pretty much blackmailed Snape. Feels for days. |
ronburgandy
07.28.13 | 4's the best book. 3's the best movie because alfonso cuaron, but yeah i did like a lot of the stuff in 7 pt. 1 too, especially the cinematography. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Yeah, it was cool because it showed he wasn't all high and mighty.
The forest chase scene after Luna's dad sells them out was well done as well. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Have you ever pictured something so vividly in your mind while reading the book that you actually thought you remembered seeing it in the movie? This happened to me when Harry was digging through Sirius' old room and found that note from his mom and the torn picture of him playing on a toy broomstick being chased by James. I was confused as shit when I went back and watched the movie and didn't see it haha. |
KenboSlice
07.28.13 | Yeah, I have. Like I totally pictured Ginny being super hot (which is pretty much how they described her in the book) but Bonnie Wright just isn't very attractive. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | hahaha totally. She looks a lot older than she is, and it's weird. |

07.28.13 | *philosopher's stone |
heyadam
07.28.13 | Why do you think DH was shitty Toxin? just curious. |
toxin.
07.28.13 | @adam, i hate everything about the hallows and i wasn't particularly fond of the horcruxes (neat concept, not a fan of how jk rowling chose to use it). and the epilogue was horrendously juvenile
i mean i love all things harry potter and i actually liked it a lot, i just didn't think too much about the numerous things i disliked about it |
Point1
07.28.13 | Everything after the Snape memories in the Death Hallows movie was horrible and completely mishandled. |
heyadam
07.28.13 | "Everything after the Snape memories in the Death Hallows movie was horrible and completely mishandled."
agreed for the most part. The leading up to- and the Forbidden Forest scene itself was pretty cool imo. And makes sense toxin., it was horrendously juvenile, but so was I growing up with it so it didn't bother me too much haha. |
toxin.
07.28.13 | yeah, i mean i thought it was awesome when i was like 14 too, and it didn't ruin the series or anything so i'll still have fond memories of it |

07.28.13 | "it was my first book and the one that got me hooked on the series as a kid."
fair enough. I started getting into the series right before Goblet was released so that one has huuuuuge sentimental value to me. If I was going by that alone then Goblet and Azkaban would be 1/2
"80 comments about Harry Potter? Seriously guys??"
ugh who cares. 81 now because of you.
@toxin I really don't think they switched the title because "lol americans are dumb" |

07.28.13 | it had a different title in North America
you guys are so weird |
toxin.
07.28.13 | @aids well i mean obv i exaggerated the point, but iirc the rowling/ the publishers didn't think american children would be familiar with the philosopher's stone so they changed the name. |
toxin.
07.28.13 | fwiw i think they were right, i didn't know what the philosopher's stone was until like 6th grade when we read some book called the alchemist and talked about it in class |
toxin.
07.28.13 | triple post whoo
here's wiki:
They thought that a child would not want to read a book with the word "philosopher" in the title
so that's that |

07.28.13 | you guys are weird, the philospher's stone turns shit into gold, man. |

07.28.13 | also the elixir of life |
Aids
07.28.13 | "the publishers didn't think american children would be familiar with the philosopher's stone so they changed the name."
yeah exactly, it's a thing that is not familiar to us as North American children, which was part of the point behind the title (in terms of English audiences anyway). my copy was called Philosopher's Stone (I live in Canada) but it's just weird seeing people act elite about a book title.
anyway. I put Chamber at the bottom of my list, but I actually think it maybe should (ehhh) be higher. In terms of the development of the overall plot, Chamber was an excellent book, and really showed a bit of foreshadowing into how truly dark and disturbing the later books would prove to be, while still keeping it essentially a teenage-appropriate novel. I just don't get much from it when I re-read it compared to 1/3/4. Awesome book though, would 4-4.5 if we had sputnikbooks.com. 3/4/6/7 would all be 5/5 haha. |
Anthracks
07.28.13 | i dont really like goblet of fire or sorcerer's stone and i stopped reading at #4. maybe i should finish the series since you seem to have the same taste in harry potter as me |
Keyblade
07.28.13 | "80 comments about Harry Potter? Seriously guys??"
Well it rules, despite me not having read one of the books for over 6 years. |
toxin.
07.28.13 | it is still a bit sad that american children aren't expected to know about something as culturally significant as the philosopher's stone imo/ were expected to be scared off by the word "philosopher's" in the title. oh well it's nitpicking so w/e |
tommygun
07.29.13 | it's dumb and really condescending of the publisher to change it though considering the book explains the stone's powers anyway (also it's really not a difficult concept to grasp)
quirrell was a fucking bitch |
