Bands I Saw Live Last Week
In the order that I saw them. The only days I wasn't at concerts were
Monday and Wednesday. |
1 | Mike Mains and the Branches
This was Tuesday night. I came straight from a final to the show and only missed
one song. These guys were pretty good. |
2 | William Becket
Just one guy playing guitar and singing over a bunch of backing tracks. He told a
lot of random stories about his life that sometimes went on a little too long. Matt
Thiessen sang one song's last chorus with him. |
3 | Hellogoodbye
Their vocalist reminded me of Bob Saget's character from Full House. |
4 | Relient K
Second time seeing them. They played 3 new songs. They're pretty poppy, and one
veered close to rap in one part, but I'm looking forward to the new album. They
also brought out members from all the openers to play with them, and even had
someone from Third Eye Blind play tambourine on a cover of one of their songs. |
5 | Leagues
Thursday night. Probably the most well received opener I've seen that didn't have
their own crowd there. People got really into them. |
6 | The Airborne Toxic Event
Third time seeing them. Mikel came out into the audience to sing three times, and
every time it was right were I was. I shook his hand and helped him stand on the
rail. I also helped crowd surf Anna. |
7 | Love and Death
Friday, Day 1 of Rock on the Range. Couldn't hear the vocals that well. The mixing
was pretty bad. |
8 | Hollywood Undead
Someone in the audience hit one of them with a full (plastic) bottle of beer. |
9 | Buckcherry
This is when the tits started being flashed. Second time seeing the band and I still
don't care for them. |
10 | Cheap Trick
Holy fuck, their lead guitarist's mic stand was completely lined with guitar pics, on
both sides. He just smacked them off out into the audience. |
11 | Korn
Head's first show back with them, which also made him the first person to both
open and headline a stage at Rock on the Range in the same day. I had been in the
pit for the other bands but it was so bad for Korn that I left. I almost passed out. |
12 | Young Guns
Day 2 of rock on the range. These guys put on a great show. |
13 | Otherwise
Hadn't heard of them before, but I had a good spot in the pit so I stayed. Quite
liked them. |
14 | Motionless In White
Second time seeing them. If their set list is any indication, they know people didn't
appreciate the Manson ripoff sound they went for on half of their newest album. |
15 | Black Veil Brides
Honestly, they weren't that bad, except for the embarrassing attempts at
screaming. Fallen Angels is fun to sing along with live. |
16 | Asking Alexandria
I mostly just heard them, because I was facing away from them because of the
near constant crowd surfing. |
17 | A Day To Remember
Second time seeing them. Fun story first: they flew up to Ohio from Florida the
night before, and my cousin was coming back from interning at Disney, and she
was on the same flight and got their autographs for me. As for the show, it was
great. I got destroyed in a wall of death and then lost my shoe in the circle pit it
became, but I got it back. |
18 | Stone Sour
Second time seeing them. I was pretty far back from the stage because I was so
worn out from crowd surfers and being dehydrated and crushed that I didn't feel
like fighting my way up. They did a really good cover of Children of the Grave. |
19 | Smashing Pumpkins
So many people left because they pretty much only played new songs. Got pretty
close though, because of how much it emptied out. They also left the stage for 5
minutes before playing their last song (Today) and almost everyone had left by the
time they came back on. We also got lectured over how much crowd surfing was
going on (but mostly just to be careful, because apparently some chick got taken
out on a stretcher after she was dropped). |
20 | Sick Puppies
3rd and final day of Rock on the Range. They didn't play My World, but they were
really good. Emma is a fucking great bassist. |
21 | Big Wreck
I thought they were kind of borring, but they had some really good guitar solos. |
22 | Red
And the award for most elaborate stage set up goes to... but yeah they were crazy.
Got a high five from the vocalist. Oh yeah, and they were the only band I saw with
fire. |
23 | Ghost B.C.
I only knew one of their songs, but I stuck around at that stage to see them and it
was worth it. |
24 | In This Moment
Barely saw any of them because there was literally a constant stream of crowd
surfers. And these were BIG guys. Fuck, I thought I was going to die. It was so
packed in there you couldn't breathe. |
25 | Device
I actually liked this show better than I liked Disturbed when I saw them last year.
They played Wish, which is one of my favourite songs, and also did Close My Eyes
Forever. I thought since Halestorm had been there the day before Lzzy would sing
it with him but either they left or she didn't feel like it so Maria from In This Moment
sang instead. |
26 | Bush
I really liked them. I wasn't too close to the stage, but I wasn't that far back, either. |
27 | Alice In Chains
I was really close to the stage, but didn't actually see much again because of crowd
surfers. It was amazing, regardless. |
28 | Soundgarden
Almost left before them, but I'm glad I stayed. It was a really good show. There
were a lot of crowd surfers again, but I still got to watch more than just listen. |
29 | Tits
I feel it is necessary to give tits their proper recognition for being awesome and for
being everywhere this weekend. |
