You Am I's best album, as well as one of Australia's best albums of all time, is merely good alternative rock and no more. Hourly, Daily hasn't aged well at all since its release roughly seventeen years ago: a blotchy production job and a rather inconsistent, if varied, collection of songs runs its welcome out just halfway into its length. Singer and guitarist Tim Rogers just sounds like a prepubescent boy, too, unfortunately. Still, it does carry a foundation framework that many of Australia's best alternative rock bands would follow into the later 90s and 00s as well. It's just a shame that the album many critics hold so highly and responsible actually isn't all that good when played out.
