My only exposure to The Tea Party is Transmission, which I absolutely adore. After hearing the new album and reading a lot of the feedback, it seems like Transmission may not be the best indicator of their overall sound/portfolio. Transmission-era Tea Party seems like a band that would open for NIN in a grungy club in the 90s, while TOATE-era Tea Party seems like a band that would open for Pearl Jam at an arena show. Either way, this is solid rock music and the title track is a monster. I just wish it shared the dark intensity of Transmission. Some of these tracks get a little too sappy for my tastes.

Got to listen to the whole album in streaming. The album has many elements of progressive rock and still retains the core sound of The Tea Party. Lots of variety can be found and is sure to please longtime fans. I am pretty sure this will be a grower and might have to raise my rating. So far my favorite tracks are "The Black Sea" and "The L.o.C"
