Review Summary: Short and sweet.

20 years after their formation, pop punk veterans New Found Glory have never really strayed from the sound that garnered them mainstream success. Ninth full length ‘Makes Me Sick’ is no exception; at its core the record consists of ten catchy songs, with the addition of keys being the element setting it apart from other New Found Glory albums. Sadly, the synths often feel like a gimmick more than anything else. ‘The Sound Of Two Voices’ boasts a tropical feel that wouldn’t sound out of place on Simple Plan’s latest album (and that’s not a good thing).

Thankfully, ‘The Sound Of Two Voices’ is the only real misstep on the record. Most of ‘Makes Me Sick’ thrives off simplicity. The clean production causes catchy pop hooks and sing-along choruses to take the center stage and make for a pleasant listen. Standout ‘Party On Apocalypse’ features an irresistibly catchy chorus that seems to be built for a live setting. Like all preceding tracks, closer ‘The Cheapest Thrill’ is quick, fun and not very memorable. Lyrically, ‘Makes Me Sick’ is standard pop punk (besides the occasional ‘Ugh! Millennials!’ line): there’s love, there’s self loathing, there’s (boring) summer. And that’s okay.

The ninth track on New Found Glory’s ninth record says it all: ‘Short And Sweet”. ‘Makes Me Sick’ is a fun record that’s not striving to be anything more than that: catchy pop punk that will find its way into CD players once or twice this coming summer.

I've listened to this twice so far and it's alright. NFG is my favorite band, so I'm hoping it grows on me.

Short and sweet review. Listened to this about three times, some of the songs in the first half are ridiculously catchy, but the second half was a bit weak.

i guess they weren't happy with this and released Makes Me Sick Again. Adding three new songs into the album. The new tracks are placed as tracks #1, #7, and closing track #13.

Jesus, that's unfortunate. Is it good? As much as I liked this album, I'm hoping they add some more hardcore elements like Resurrection and Tip of the Iceberg.

Edit: Just heard the new single. I'm into it. Way more punk and fast.
