Release Date: 2004 | Tracklist

From Amazon.com
"This CD features the title track from the Metallica documentary "Some Kind of Monster" (also found on St. Anger), plus tracks recorded live on June 11, 2003, in Paris, France, during one of the three club shows performed on the hottest day in French history. A fan's dream concert, the disc features live versions of several cuts from the group's earliest days."

I got this album (well it counts as an album I think, does it??) cause I got as a gift for christmas and a bunch of other albums from a friend.

Anyway I actually enjoy this album even though two of the eight songs are the same and the rest are rarely played Live songs. Personally I never liked Bob Rock as Metallicas producer I prefer Flemming Rasmussen any day.

Track By Track Review:

1-Some Kind Of Monster-This song is ok but really long and extremly repetitive but for some reason I enjoy this song and its my favourite song of the "St. Anger" album. There is no solo but what can you expect? but if they did put a solo in this song it would make it a bit better, James singing is ok in this song, The bass is really low and Lars sound likes he playing garbage cans or something.
3/5

2-The Four Horsmen (LIVE) - One of my favourite Metallica songs off "Kill'em All" and out of alot of Metallica songs. This song is so energetic and fast. Since its live, dont expect to hear the song exactly like the studio version. Something sounds different about this though. in the intro it sounds like synthesizers are being used in the palm muting riff near the "do dee do" part (or im going deaf or something). Well this song live captures the rawness of trash metal that used to be Metallica in the 80's.
5/5

3-Damage Inc. (Live) - Out of all the songs on the Master of Puppets, I never liked this song that much, it seemed to boring and repitive for me. The drums in this live version of this song sound like the ones in "Some Kind of Monster" (which isnt that good). I have to give Kudos for a good solo though not one of Hammetts best. Nice Finale to end this song off.
4/5

4-Leper Messiah (Live) - Starts out with James saying "Bounjour" to the audience then the whole band explodes into the song (not literally of course) and play the awesome starting riff. The bass can be heard loud and clear in this song. James voice sounds really different in this song. This song is really good though, and IMO its better live.
5/5

5-Motorbreath (Live) - Another good song off "Kill'em All". It doesnt sound like Metallica (if you know what i mean ;) ). James voice sounds considerably better on this track and this song is way better live. This song is another aweme song but for some unkown reason Kirk added Wah to the first solo in this song, it still sounds good though.
4/5

6-Ride The Lightning (Live) - Title Track for the album "Ride The Lightning", this song talks about death in the electric chair hence the album cover has a electric chair on it and its the name of the song as well...(bet ya didnt know that???).The solo is incredibly good in this song although some would tend to differ and thats alright. Another kick-*** song by Metallica!!!!!!! m/
5/5

7-Hit The Lights (Live) - A awesome song and opneing track off "Kill'em All", I dont know why but i find when James says "No Life Till Leather" it sounds really catchy, along with the chorus. Kirk plays three solos (?) in this song, the first two are fairly short but the last one is clearly the best out of the three. I love this song, being my personal favourite on "Kill'em All" right under "The Four Horsmen"
5/5

8-Some Kind Of Monster [EDIT] - This is basically a shortened version of the opening track to this album. This is the same as the first track and extremely repitive... I'll rate this the same as the unedited version since there no difference.
3/5

Overall, if you like Live Cd's (since this basically is a Live cd, except for track 1 and 8) this cd is for you. I enjoy this cd for what it is and theres no need to bash it. If they added more songs from Early Metallica days, thuis would be perfect.

4/5=overall

It's what you'd expect from The Unnamed Feeling EP, only with a song worse than the Unnamed Feeling....
Trash metal? Hahah.

Not a bad review, though I'm pretty certain I'll never buy, download, or hear this.
Notice that there are some old songs on it that are thrash.

Ps : It's spelled 'bonjour'

What's this about Flash Metal?

Good review though. The old stuff brought up the rating considerably.

Nice review. I like this album, but like all Metallica, it gets old fast. I may review this sometime. The radio edit of the title track is different, as it is shorter and has a better drum sound.

I really didnt see anything good in St. Anger except Some kind of monster.I still have to actually see the bloody movie cuz i cant find it anywhere!!!!It is repetitive but i think its bloody good and the lyrics simple as they are hv a bloody nice tone to thm. Metallica hv sort of been going downhill ever since MOP except for the odd songs Some kind of monster in my opinion is on of the good songs tht have put metallica back on track in my book

Hetfield can't sing anymore. I thought there current live stuff would be good because Lars would acually be able to keep up now, but the vocals are a f***ing disgrace.

Well then if you've only heard part of it, you've heard the whole thing. It's the same damn thing over and over...

The vocals are the biggest letdown here. They made my ears bleed. This is possibly the worst Metallica could have done to get live songs on an EP
